Particl V3 Progress Report (07-MAY-21)

With the week coming to an end, we’ve prepared a new Particl V3 progress update we’d like to share with you. It highlights all the progress that has been made over the development of Particl V3 and indicates what are the items that are going to be focused on next week and beyond.

Since our last progress report, several issues have been resolved while others have progressed well. As Particl’s Lead Desktop Developer Arnold Bansemer has been working on the list of outstanding issues, some minor issues that need to be fixed have been identified. Additionally, documents containing popular community requests and suggestions have been re-visited, and a couple of extra items have been implemented as a result.

Without further ado, here is a list of the items currently in progress and those remaining.

Note: Some items that were present in the last progress report are not included in this one. In all cases, that’s because they have been successfully completed.

In Progress
External Links

Allow external links to be rendered in the user's browser, rather than opening a new webview app-based window. This is a Particl Desktop specific change.
Flagging Markets

Flagging markets (markets that the user has either flagged or voted on to remove) prevents the processing of activities that the flagged market impacts. Examples are attempting to remove the market, editing categories on the market, or creating and editing listings for that market.

Some of the issues that were previously causing problems have been fixed. However, there are still issues that need to be fixed up. This is a market back-end specific change.
Expired Listings

Expired listings that are still in a cart should not be removed when the MP routine to clean up expired listings automatically is run. This is a market back-end specific change that’s completed and only requires to be merged.
To Be Completed

The following items are placed in the order that they are planned to be worked on.
Orders Getting Stuck in Shipping Phase

In the buy flow, releasing funds to complete the buy flow for an item before a possible shipping message has been received results in the order status becoming stuck in the 'Shipping' state despite being complete. This is a market back-end specific change that is likely already fixed but requires a bit more testing.
Miscellaneous Client Startup Issue

Had a report that starting the client with a locked wallet results in some startup issues (unlocking the wallet and starting the market app again appears to have fixed it). This is a Particl Desktop specific fix, and it still requires further investigation.
Dynamic Quotations

This is not a bug but an intended addition to Particl V3. Add dynamic quotations into the Particl Desktop startup splash screen. This is a Particl Desktop specific change.
Windows Startup Bug

A zmq.node error causes startup issues for some Windows users. The issue makes launching and properly using Particl V3 impossible for these users. This is a Particl Desktop specific change.
Delete a Product From the Inventory

This is not a bug but an intended addition to Particl V3. This will let you delete products from your inventory if you don’t want them to be displayed anymore. This is both a particl Desktop and market back-end specific change.

Once at least all the above items, except the last two (the Windows issue and the product deletion), are complete, we should be ready to release the next testnet release candidate for Particl V3.

In the meantime, don’t miss Particl’s upcoming CCS votes for the election of output claim managers and the introduction of a new decentralized treasury model. The first vote is going to take place on Wednesday, the 12th of May, 2021. You can find the details of the proposal here.

As always, we want to thank you for your continued support! We’re just getting warmed up, and great things are afoot for Particl this year and the ones ahead of us!

April 2021 Project Update

Get up-to-date with everything that's happened with the Particl ecosystem in April.

If you’ve been keeping up-to-date with the project lately, you know that April 2021 has been an important and disruptive one (in a good way 😉) for Particl. Indeed, the Particl team has been undergoing significant internal changes and preparing up for a brand new, more community-focused approach.

As you would expect, such an important shift requires a lot of work to be done internally and structurally, which doesn’t always show up publicly until a later time. The good news, though, is that this “later time” has come, and a lot of what’s been in the works in that regard has started to surface in April. You can expect the month of May to be the same, only at a more accentuated level.

This update will recap all the major events and developments that have happened last month. Let’s get started!

  •     Moving Forward With Post-Inflationary Measures
  •     Increased Focus on Community Governance
  •     Decentralized Treasury Model
  •     First Proposal to Require a Vote Now Live on the CCS
  •     Particl V3 Progress Report
  •     New Particl Desktop and Core releases
  •     Work on BasicSwap Resumes

End of week update, what is coming up next week

https://www.reddit.com/r/Particl/comments/msauza/endofweek_update_and_whats_coming_up_next_week/

Quote

Hey guys! Got some nice end-of-week updates from the team!

First, contrary to what I mentioned earlier this week, it looks like we're going to need the weekend to finalize the blog post on the treasury model as we're looking into the final details and validating things with our new legal advisor. It should be ready to publish on Monday!

But that's not all for next week, far from that actually. After the treasury blog post goes live, and within the same week, we'll be following up with another blog post on the new on-chain voting mechanism (decentralized governance) which explains, in-depth, how it works, how to vote, its consensus and quorum parameters, how it ties into the CCS, and so on. Kewde has been finalizing the integration and it's on the verge of going live!

It's also probable that, towards the end of next week, we'll move forward with the first proposal (nominating the team as managers of the claim process for frozen outputs) to be voted on and publish it on the CCS.

Setting this first proposal in motion is a critical step in turning the page on this unfortunate bug event and start focusing entirely on the exciting future coming for Particl. Once that proposal is published, we'll give it a few days and then follow with the other proposal about the new treasury model.

Now for an update on the frozen outputs. The code for the second hardfork is now completed and ready to go live. The only thing missing, as you would expect, is the blacklist and the whitelist for the frozen outputs. We'd like to thank everyone who has gone through the process of digging and submitting their outputs already. So far, we have verified and identified 26% of all frozen outputs (1541 out of 5905) through the output submission process.

But we still need to collect as many outputs as possible! To that effect, we have worked on a minor Particl Desktop update that streamlines this process and integrates it fully into the client's GUI. It automates the process of compiling your outputs, for all of your wallets, and makes it effortless, hopefully leading to more people submitting their outputs. That new Particl Desktop version is likely to be released next week, under Particl V2, assuming nothing unexpected comes up during its internal testing phase (ongoing at the moment)!

Preview of the Export Blind/Anon Output Data Tool on Particl Desktop (WIP)

As a side note, I'd like to mention that it's important to understand that an unknown number of outputs simply aren't accessible by their owners anymore. That happens as people use the marketplace, delete wallets, test things out, forget/lose their keys, and so on. These are outputs that will never be recovered and cannot be reactivated through the low pass filter or the manual claim process. As with any blockchain, as more time goes by, the more outputs (coins) get lost forever.

Finally, next week we'll also have a fully detailed progress report on Particl V3 which is nearing completion for the next community testing round. Don't want to give any time estimate on when it's ready for testnet, as we know this can be highly volatile, but it's pretty close now with mostly testing left to do and just a couple of fixes to add in/finalize. You can expect more of these development updates in the future (outside of updates contained in the monthly Project Update) as we move towards improving the flow of information and transparency of the development process!

Pretty excited for next week to come! The pace will start picking up now as a lot of these things we've been working on since the hardfork are about to be deployed Smiley

Particl V3 Now Available on Testnet

After months of relentless development, we are proud to finally announce that the Particl V3-testnet build is now available for public access and testing!

As a reminder, Particl Desktop 3.0 is Particl’s most significant update since its inception in 2017.

It introduces new functionalities and enhancements to the desktop application as well as a significantly rewritten and improved market codebase. The end result is an experience that’s faster, simpler, smoother, and much more lightweight for your computer to handle.

Particl V3 makes way for many new features and functionality that have been long-anticipated by the Particl community, adding the next logical steps for our mission of delivering the most secure and private online marketplace on the web. Some special tidbits to mention are:

  • Markets and Storefronts allow sellers to have their own brand stores or theme stores and determine who can access them. It also enables community markets.
  • Market identities allow you to create multiple shops, markets, and listings without creating any association between each of them. Multiple markets or storefronts can also be linked to the same seller so that he can benefit from the reputation he's gained.
  • Coin control allows users to define precisely which of their coins, no matter in which of their addresses they are, should be used for transfer.
  • Enhanced privacy due to payment of listing fees for spam prevention with anon funds, adjustable ring signatures that now default to 24 ring members, the freshly introduced UTXO splitter, etc.
  • Lower listing fees due to changes made in how SMSG and the marketplace codebase interact with each other.
  • Improved desktop application that enhances the user experience thanks to better performance and speed.
