Thanks for your support. It seems there are more and more full node supporters out there. And you are right, I guess most of PHS-wallet-users do not know what a full node is and even if they know what it is they might not know how to set up a full node.

Man, I'm behind the times, didn't even realize I could do a full node with a coin just by allowing the data port. But I have it up and running now, 16 connections so far, I run my wallet all the time anyways so why not?

I only had 2 on my PC (and 1 of those was my Pi).

Not a full node as yet, I've lost the password to my router so have to do a factory reset apparently.....then set everything back up again  

How many connections do you have?
My number of connections is most of the time between 12 and 25. Just in this moment I have 21 connections.
Do you run your wallet as a full node, too?

Where's all the active connections gone? 

Oh and also, if anyone's interested into building an ether mining rig (which might do also for any other protocol based on GPU mining), I just went through the process out of curiosity and could give a few explanations on how to get about it with a reasonable budget (mostly relying on stuff bought from China). Took me about three months, going through all sorts of failures and silly situations, but with the experience it could be done within a month, if someone cares to learn. I can chat about that via email, just let me know.

Not sure about what you mean by 'background data saver'. Just took a look and it doesn't seem enabled anywhere in data consumption.
I usually have no mobile data whatsoever, I turn it on only when I need it. I mostly stay at home anyway, and only need the phone when I'm on the move.
GPS is usually disabled also, not for privacy reasons but because it ruins my battery lifecycle.
Please note I'm using an old SG3 that still runs pretty well with the now defunct CyanogenMod.
It might sound silly for a computer professional, but I started programming long before home PCs were the norm, saw laptops, cell phones and then smartphones appearing during my lifetime, and am still not used to software that supposedly autoconfigures -- though as opposed to my elder brother, who's a real CLI fanatic, I tend to appreciate GUI if it gives you a hint of what is really going on...
The fact that BitCoin Checker is failing to update also seems to indicate a more general problem, which is why I'm asking.
Maybe I should mention I'm living in France, sometimes I wonder whether that might be a problem.

I set the "Refresh Interval" in the "Simple Philosopherstone Widget"  to 1 minute and I always get the latest prices from cryptopia.
 
I guess you have enabled "backgroud data saver" or something similar on your phone?

I've noticed recently (~3 days) that on my Android phone, the quotes for PHS@Cryptopia are not getting updated.
I'm using both the 'official' PHS app for Android and BitCoin Checker, and none of the two seem to be getting updates.
Is that specific to me ? Is it related to Cryptopia modifying their public API ? Or is this specific to PHS ?

If anyone has any relevant information, it's welcome...

Not sure about that, I'm still making quite a lot of profit playing a usual game of buying at a slightly lesser price and selling at a slightly higher price. Most of my fund is staking, but if I dedicate ~2000PHS to that, it seems profitable. And in doing this I'm participating in keeping the thing around a medium level. People come in an out of the market, because they need their money elsewhere, and if nobody is present on the market this results in them buying or selling at extreme prices. We do need to have a quote for PHS (otherwise it would be purely abstract), and that is done through the continuous negociation of the market. Things would be different if PHS was quoted on several markets, but this might take some time.

The PHS seem to have a built-in price stabilisation.

The staking profit is very high, so the PHS owners prefer to stake instead of trading PHS on an exchange. 
This results in a low trading volume of PHS is quite low.

You can see some "bears" on cryptopia who want to buy PHS for a lower price but the PHS owners prefer to stake PHS instead of selling PHS ;-)
But the time is running against the "bears" because the longer they wait to buy PHS the more stake profit they will miss.

Current news from Cryptopia, with my interpretation:

- prices are plummeting due to some people buying very low, with heavy support (something like 23000PHS on the 4.35uBTC line, which is quite enormous)
- I've seen this bloke making random offers around 20000PHS for a while, feels like someone who doesn't mind losing up to 1000$ (which is not my case, at any rate)
- conclusion: could be some kind of trolling to destabilise our fragile market (most people are bidding 500-1000PHS at a time, so this looks like powerful 'investors')

So, here's my message to the community:
- remembering how BTC itself was quite destabilised by financial market investors, I would advise PHS owners not to sell at such a low rate (and lose quite a lot of money). Not giving in to such pressure should lead them to make more reasonable offers. Up until now PHS has been staying wisely between 5 and 6 uBTC, there's no reason this should change all of a sudden because Mr Big Guy decided it was so. And if we want to make this into an actual currency, we have to keep it stable.

The bottomline is that a number of powerful shareholders will be ready to lose some money to ruin the cryptocurrency initiative, seeing as it threatens the all-powerfulness of the banking system they rely on. The community has to be ready to stand firm to those attacks, and react intelligently by thinking of long-term profit rather than giving in to induced market panic. Personnally I'm not going to change my positions, and will still be selling around 6uBTC, because I know what PHS is worth.

"full node" means that you allow outbound connections to other nodes (wallets) for sharing your local copy of the blockchain. This stabilizes the network and increases the trustworthy of the blockchain.
But for running your wallet as a "full node" you must either enable UPNP in your router and your wallet or you can manually open the port 16281 in your router.

You can click on the bar chart with the number of connections (right lower corner) in order to view the details of your connections. If you have outbound connections you have a full node.
Or if your total number of connections is much more then 10 (e.g. 18 or 35) than you mast have full node too.

What is the difference between running a 'full node' and running a wallet on a RaspPi 24/7 (which I am currently doing)? Should I go full node?
