That's cool, glad to see you here. What type of work/skill do you have then?

Any chance you speak another language other than English fluently? I think we should have translations of all Riecoin's text info and versions of the promo video in other languages. Gatra has said he'll get a Spanish voice over recorded - but all other languages would be very welcome. The way I see it, mathematics isn't culturally specific in any way, so the more languages we can connect with people in the better. Here is the script for anyone interested in doing some translating, you'd need to record at roughly the same speed as the English voice so that the timing works (I won't be able to fix timing because I won't understand the words). Definite cool factor from this for anyone who provides voice work too. 6000 people in the last 5 days have heard me as the voice of Riecoin - I had no idea last week that this week I would be such a spokesperson, but that's how things go I guess.

Video is posted on Riecoin.org for reference.

Script to be translated:
""Riecoin is a decentralized crypto currency built on Bitcoin offering an entirely new proof-of-work.  Miners of Riecoin process transactions in the same way Bitcoin miners do, but the mining of Riecoins produces a byproduct that is of value to the scientific community - highly verified prime sextuplets, or prime numbers. In fact, if enough people mine Riecoins all at once, they could collectively generate prime sextuplets 559 digits long that would break world records! All of this on a completely decentralized p2p currency with a fair launch - pretty cool right? . . .The coin gets its name from famous 19th century mathematician Bernhard Riemann who investigated the Riemann zeta function and established its importance for understanding the distribution of prime numbers. The data collected from Riecoin mining tests Hardy-Littlewook k-tuple conjectures regarding the distribution of primes using Riemann's zeta function; its information that could prove invaluable to human understanding of mathematics. . . .Riecoin also functions as an advanced decentralized currency. Like Bitcoin, there is no central authority, no one can change the ledger or double spend. To safeguard a fair launch, the first 24hrs following Riecoin's release offered no reward. This novel approach allowed early miners to verify there was no premine and have their miners tested and running when the coins finally started flowing. Riemann's algorithm also provides a stable, predictable supply of new coins, so its well suited for payment systems and as an investment. Feel free to ask any questions you might have - the Riecoin community is always happy to help. . . If you'd like to support p2p decentralized currency and help create world record breaking mathematical research in prime numbers - start mining Riecoins today on your computer!"

Obviously mining and buying Riecoins will also help.

Failing that. Post your comments/concerns here. Make suggestions for improvements. Thank people when they do things, thank Gatra when he posts an update. Any way to keep this thread active is very helpful. People investigating the coin want to see an active discussion with lots of people taking an interest in the coin...so in that regard you're already helping and its much appreciated!

i speak german fluently and i will try to translate it , setting up the miner on ypool was a bit hard however ill try that again as well Smiley
you can contact me, if you got translationproblems.
just can't speak proper German because I'm Swiss Wink

Thinking about the pooling issue a bit more, I have a suggestion for how to refine it:

A key danger already identified by the Riecoin creators in using 4-chains as the PoW for pooled mining is the possibility of creating a miner tailored to finding 4 chains.

(a)  Minimum divisor requirement for *all* numbers:

   Accept PoW only if:
    (a)  The first four numbers are (MR) prime; and
    (b)  None of the six numbers has a divisor <= N for N=some reasonable size prime.

As an example, the optimized miner jh00 released sieves all six possibilities up to 50,000  (https://github.com/jh000/xptMiner/blob/master/xptMiner/riecoinMiner.cpp ).  A minimum PoW of 50,000 would then exclude any share that has more of a bias towards four-chains than the default ypool miner.

(b)  Generator polynomial matches only

The pattern of primes chosen for Riecoin (p, p+4, p+6, p+10, p+12, p+16) can only occur at certain values.  The simplest polynomial for these is n*210 + 7 and n*210 + 97.  Any miner searching at locations *other* than these is clearly doing something weird, because no valid 6-chain can occur at other locations.  Any non-matching share should be rejected.

I think ypool implements option (a), checking server side for divisors of the last 2 prime candidates.
Regarding (b), actually the only possibility is n*210 + 97 (because n*210 + 7 would be divisible by 7). The RIC client does this check as quick validation to discard bogus blocks before performing RM.
But this is already covered by option (a), since 97 mod 210 is the result of doing a mini-sieve with primes 2,3,5 and 7, hence 210, it's 2*3*5*7 = 210
If you want to add 11 then you have 6 possibilities, not only one anymore.

If you test for divisors up to 50000 then the advantage for having a bias towards 4tuples instead of 6tuples should be negligible.

Whoops - yes, of course;  n=0 doesn't matter for this application.

My only suggestion would be to parameterize this in the communication protocol to the clients:  Establish a minimum filtered divisor value that clients must abide by so that it can be raised over time (or lowered) as the difficulty varies.  As the difficulty increases, the optimal size of the sieve increases -- assuming you've fixed the memory latency issues of having a sieve bigger than cache.  One presumes that a future xptMiner will do this and use a larger sieve, and it would make sense to establish *now* a way to indicate proper behavior to all clients.  We shouldn't fix 50,000 in stone, because the advantage will be back at difficulty 2000. :-)

As a datapoint:
  - The solo core of my miner sieves all six to 14M.  It takes 14 seconds to execute one round on my reference platform.
  - The ypool core of my miner sieves all six to 50k.  It sieves the first four to 16M.  It takes 17 seconds.

The solo core runs a little faster, but produces half as many 4 chains per hour -- making it a horrible idea for use with a pool.  Fortunately, the speed advantage isn't that great.

(Note that there's already a tuned version of jh's miner floating around that sieves all six to 100,000 -- and it's faster than the 50,000 version even in 4chains/hour.  So we could probably already raise the limit to 100,000, which would further cut the advantage.)

Hello,
I'm mining on YPOOL (no really many choice)
I make 24 Rie/day
Is solo mine worth it for me?

Another question : rminerd announce "expected time to bloc" : xxxxxxxxx
I suppose the time is in seconds ?

and, last, what's the best sieve setting?

It would be worth it for you if the solo miner were as fast as the ypool miner, but for now it is not.

Even with the new rminer 3.1.1?

Edited OP.

I'm still working on a customized stratum-mining for Riecoin. I contacted a few pools that support non-standard PoWs without success.

Meanwhile, I made an optimized solo miner. Download here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/riecoin/files/cpuminer%20rminerd%203.1.1/

I am not the sharpest tool in the shed but when I try and create a .bat I get an error "localhost port 80: connection refused". I do have the wallet open and connected. I also have the conf file in the appdata folder.

Am I supposed to use the rcpcport 28332 or the port 28333? I am not the best at creating .bats

you have to set the port in your riecoin.conf file, with the line "rpcport=29332" or whatever you want, then in your miner.bat use "-o localhost:29332"

I'm an idiot.

Here is my conf in riecoin appdata folder:

here is my .bat:  rminerd.exe -o localhost:29332 -p user -p pass

I get "localhost port 29332: connection refused" Could it be a firewall issue?

Maybe, but try adding "listen=1" to the end, first.  And it should be "-u user"

Thanks for the help.

Added the listen and changed -p to -u. Still got the  connection refused. Opened the port in windows firewall and still the same.

I am going to solo mine one day.

EDIT: Like I said I am an idiot. I had the conf file in the appdata folder but forgot to put it in with the riecoin qt.exe folder

I see 0.8.7 on sourceforge but not on github?

Gatra, can you confirm that you are the same gatra that is authoring at https://github.com/riecoin/riecoin.git

Please update github if possible. Thanks.

Hi!

The code already is at github. The name of the branch is "0.8.6-ric" but it contains the latest code and it has the "0.8.7" tag. The "0.8.6" part of the branch name is a reference to the fact that it's based on Bitcoin v0.8.6, I see it may be confusing but if you look at the tags it's there.

I'm gatra at bitcointalk, riecointalk and github. I also have user riecoin at github and sourceforge, and @riecoin at twitter. I own riecoin.org and riecoin.biz. But NOT riecoin.net

OK I got news back from Cryptorush.

Please vote for it here:

https://cryptorush.in/index.php?p=vote

You can also send bitcoins to vote, so as of right now .53 BTC will get this to the top of the list!

Come on guys send some support toward this, especially if you sold into the .001 buy wall yesterday! If not then just click it up!

Also, looking for some support here at Sci-Fi coin exchange, because discovering primes seems to fit with their ideology:

http://scificointalk.com/index.php/topic,332.0.html

Finally, I'm waiting to hear back from Cryptotc.us. Will post with an update.

i wish to mine coins already=[ idk how to make wallet on linux and solo mine any easy walkthrough?

If you're using Ubuntu you can use this guide starting from the "Install Dependencies" step:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/cloud-mining-riecoin-460784

Though I'm not sure if the git repo it tells you to get the miner from has the newly updated mining code or not.

You will need to comment out lines 4701-4705 in main.cpp and recompile or use the previous client (version 0.8.6)
https://github.com/riecoin/riecoin/blob/0.8.6-ric/src/main.cpp

Have you tested that these blocks will be accepted by other nodes?

There's a similar test, e.g., in ProcessBlock:

nbNewBlock > bnBestChainLastDiff * 2

*oh*.  Now I see.  The test on 4701 is buggy - it's multiplying the wrong side.

Guh.  Thank you.  If I get a block, you get coins. :-)
