Many thanks for the compliments on the roadmap. I do feel it is an achievable path for Sterlingcoin to regain, perhaps exceed, its past position in the ranks.

In regards to the current milestone mapped out before us, Sterlingcoin v1.6 is progressing very nicely. Ever effort is being made to release it this weekend. I have been working on it very, very diligently the past week or more and I am very pleased with the results. I certainly hope the community will soon be in agreeance with me when I say, it is a thing of beauty. I hope it is well-received that I wish to make that a surprise. Of course and as you know, replacing the alert and checkpoint server keys was the primary objectives, but I have seized the opportunity to give us a reliably functional wallet that we can be proud of.

Forward, Sterlingcoiners. Forward.

The resolution: Replacing the sync checkpoint server private key and the alert private key in the code with new private keys and releasing new wallets. Of course, backing up this vital information. I will provide Matt and Spencer with copies of this information as well, so the community will have some reassurance and options in any future event.

Seems fair!

Keep on going, glad that you want to escalated this project to a new level.

Glad you agree with the resolution.

New level indeed. Roadmap on how we can get there incoming now...

Got my wallet up to date with the help of the bootstrap you provided and staking disabled, thanks Steven. Now waiting for the new wallet:)

Glad to hear it, westloin!

Please stand-by for an ETA on the new wallet. I am working on the roadmap presently and I hope to post it tonight before I sleep. The graphics artist I previously mentioned and I had hoped would be available to help me with the roadmap is unfortunately unavailable. But I am learning fast. Wink It is looking nice, if I do say so myself.

Hello Sterlingcoiners,

A situation of sorts has been on-going below the surface that does now need the community's knowledge. I did intentionally keep this below the surface in hopes of it not needing what is now evident it does need. Please understand this was not done to mislead or misinform the community, but to avoid any unneeded alarm or confusion until I knew it to be a fact.

As we all know, there has been some 'torch-passing' among the ranks of the Sterlingcoin dev team. I have made every effort to make these transitions as seamless as possible for the Sterlingcoin community. It is now evident some of this transition must not be as seamless as I had hoped.

The problems: I sincerely regret having to inform the Sterlingcoin community, we do not have the checkpoint server private key. I feared this was the case for a long time, but only received confirmation via Skype today. I did not avoid divulging any truth, only hoped it was not the truth. We do not have the alert private key as well.

The causes: I venture to guess, the information was lost during the initial outage of our seednodes. The information was never passed to Matt and therefore never passed to me but, in Spencer's defense, any one of us could have suggested the backup of such irreplaceable information. It is now evident no backup exists. With complete respect to my friends and colleagues Spencer and Matt, poor communication undoubtedly stemming from emersion in other projects, caused delay in getting information and subsequently my reporting of it. I by no means am trying to divert blame from myself, only explaining the delay of it being known by the community. Without question, the entire Sterlingcoin dev team deserves the blame.

The symptoms: No seednode is serving up sync checkpoints when they are requested by wallets because no seednode, nor no person regrettably, has the checkpoint server private key. This could explain many of the problems community members have had syncing or maintaining sync. The alert private key being lost means we will not be able to urge the upgrade to the new version I am suggesting below by ways of an in-wallet alert being raised. This is a much less devastating blow than not having the sync checkpoint server private key, but needs to be resolved also.

The resolution: Replacing the sync checkpoint server private key and the alert private key in the code with new private keys and releasing new wallets. Of course, backing up this vital information. I will provide Matt and Spencer with copies of this information as well, so the community will have some reassurance and options in any future event.

So the uncertainty of this, what was prior to this post, a below the surface issue had me in uncertainty about a roadmap. I was reluctant to pin-down milestones not knowing the urgency of this matter. But now that the uncertainty is removed, I do feel very confident to do so and can get the community a roadmap and new wallets promptly. If you can imagine my situation, that comes as a great relief to me. I do apologise for the secrecy of this matter up until now. Please do know it was only kept secret because I hoped it would not be true. I only today learned for certain it was true.

Respectfully,
Steven Saxton

Hi Sterlingcoiners,

Sorry for the delay in getting a roadmap out. Some personal matters have allowed very little time to focus on it this past week. Please know it will be presented to the community as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

Hey Steven, I'm having trouble again. I had my wallet closed for a few days and when I start it again it won't sync. It's trying hard to stake or sync, it goes forward a few blocks and at some point remaining blocks seem to increase.
The bootstrap you provided, just to be sure, is for replacing the blk0001.dat file, right? I tried it with a clean installation but it doesn't work, starts from block ~700k.
I also tried a clean install, let it sync and only replaced the wallet.dat file afterward but only a quarter of my coins show up.
How do I prevent it from staking when I start the wallet, I'd like to try it, see if it helps. You mentioned putting in the config file 'staking=0'. Is that file config.ini because I've already tried it but nothing.
I can't figure it out Sad.

Hi westloin.

Sorry you are having difficulties and I do hope to help remove them. The bootstrap should be renamed, if it is not already, 'bootstrap.dat' and placed in the Sterlingcoin data directory (the same place you find blk0001.dat). Delete blk0001.dat and the database and txleveldb directories entirely. Use caution to not delete your wallet.dat file. Then launch the wallet and it will see the bootstrap.dat file and begin the process of importing blocks from the bootstrap.dat file.

'staking=0' should be an added line to the sterlingcoin.conf file. Sorry if I failed to explain that previously. If that file does not exist in the same mentioned above Sterlingcoin data directory, please create it with any text editor and add that one line, 'staking=0'.

Unfortunately, I do suspect yours and others' issues syncing are stemming from a bigger problem. Please allow me to elaborate that problem in another post following this one. The gravity of it does deem a separate post on the topic worthy. I will compose that post immediately after posting this one. Please allow me some time to word it clearly and properly, explain my proposed resolution, explain how and why this has happened, explain why the community is just learning of it today, and the timeline ramifications it has had and will have for Sterlingcoin development. This will also explain the delay on the requested roadmap more. After reading it, I think you will understand it is the only way forward and the reasons it has impeded much of what the community has been waiting for. I also hope my decision making during these events will be understood as done in the best interest of Sterlingcoin, because they certainly were.

Again, please allow me some time to compose the mentioned follow-up post. Thank you in advance.

Finnally I'm up and running. Had to install a new wallet and let it sync empty, before replacing the wallet.
Sad that there is no buy support at Bittrex, but it seems natuarlly due to the fact that there haven't been any progresss or publicity lately. Though I believe that Sterlingcoin is still a solid project. Just look what the original core developers have been up to lately. Smiley

I have got access to the VPS and will shortly try to install a wallet and support the network as soon as possible. This is my first try out with Linux so first up is to configure firewall, secure connection and so on. It's going to be interesing.

If you mean so called "cold wallet" method of running masternode, then no, you cannot use that.

SterlingCoin does not have masternode support, it has only regular staking function.

Thanks for the info!
