My bad. Edit your sterlingcoin.conf file and add this new line: "addnode=seed1.sterlingcoin.org.uk"
Save the config file and close and open your wallet so that it reads the new config file.

also let it connect for the night but still no active connections.

Check your firewall settings, it may be getting blocked.

edit: nevermind, it started syncing after i created the .conf file myself and added the nodes

The configuration file, named sterlingcoin.conf, would be found within c:\Users\[INSERT YOUR USER NAME HERE]\AppData\Roaming\sterlingcoin\
