Its actually a great thing that was done, multiple reasons.

From here forward I will use 'we' as in 'crypto'

We have the ability, to undo unjust massive criminal actions.
We have the ability to stand up and fight for the rights of people.
We have the ability to make ground breaking decisions for the positive side of things finally.
We have the ability to CHOOSE if we do not like something and move on.
We have the ability to let the people determine the fate of when an exchange when they ever so blatantly disregards their own statements regarding security, by choosing to not use them.
We have the ability to not let a thief become a centralized , determining factor of a project.
We do not have to take a beating from others lacking judgement when so many could/would have been affected.
We do NOT have to mimic and or follow in the footsteps of others every move , just because 'they' would or wouldn't because they were the 1st to create an idea or movement. (yes I am implying BTC here)

We are in a revolution, and revolutionary progress, is not simply not following an old path, it requires leadership , that make fast, appropriate and responsive decisions that would affect masses, both good & bad.

I for one am proud, that the team involved with VRC, had the moral capability to step outside the box that 'some' seem trapped in, to make a difficult decision.

Walking behind others will never lead you down a new path where evolution is detrimental to success.

Everyone, enjoy your day.

I'll just rip apart your first "we" point.

1. What is the definition of "massive criminal actions"? Is it 10% of the total supply of VRC? 20%? 30%?

2. What is the exact cut off in terms of % or value etc for this "ability" to undo criminal actions?

3. What if it is just 1 wallet that is not an exchange that gets hacked....how does that play into things?

What happens the next time you decide to roll back the chain? As a merchant I would not want to accept VRC for payment as it could be taken away from me by a possible roll back due to some large criminal action related to VRC.

Man, you guys are driving me crazy.  You let an exchange dictate the path of your coin due to the centralized exchanges's lack of security and your defending it.

It's you and the other aspies that inspired me to finally register to this unmoderated shit show. I was just a lurker before.

Ya that's right you read correctly, your spam brought on more defenders.

Current events form future trends. Now we can see where the trend is headed.

The world is changing.

Obviously not by the actions of the VRC devs being very similar to the traditional banking system.

The banking system is way more safe and it's why most of your savings are in it you dumb idiot.

Good job representing VRC. Name calling...mature...very mature.

Not spamming here. I am posting valid point and not editing people's posts and not name calling. Okay little boy now let the adults talk. Thanks.  Grin Grin Grin

For all the Vericoin holders that are ok with the "rollback", we would like to introduce a new exciting investment option.

"RollbackCoin"

Have your coins stolen?
Make a bad trade?
Sold all your coins and want them back?
Just want to fuck with other holders?

Just use our veri innovative "rollback" button. One push of the rollback button removes the last 25 blocks.*

*This option is only available to the devs (you can trust us)  Wink.
**We will use as often as we like.

I want more info.

PoS?
PoW
PoSA???

Coin count?

I love it

Cheesy

It is what vericoin has become.

LOL well at least we agree on something...that it probably shouldn't happen again...but that doesn't mean it won't.

The precedent as been set. Good luck in the future with other scams/hacks/losses that are VRC-related.

Current events form future trends. Now we can see where the trend is headed.

A singular 'event' does not show a trend.   Let's see this situation happen a second time and what may happen.   A dev himself is already speaking out against centralized exchanges ( https://twitter.com/effectsToCause/status/488379402133450752 ) with another saying they can't do this again ( https://twitter.com/pnosker/status/488760442261889025 ).  So yeah, if this happens again, I guess that is where we will see if this lucky situation is actually a trend starting of rollbacks, which I don't think is logically possible as the more coins are used/exchanged and more users effected.

So 2 devs speaking out about centralization, yet they basically centralize?  I really wouldn't call this a "lucky situation", you were just first and will get away with it or not.

VRC is tarnished. Good luck with acting immature on this forum as you represent VRC as a supporter of it.

There is a lot of users in this thread on both sides of the discussion that can't seem to discuss things (not speaking of you, though I am sure you no doubt get kicks out of those who can't control themselves over words on a screen, I know I do).

Read again. "current events form future trends"

The event of the VRC devs rolling back the blockchain...now follow me closely this time....sets a precedent for other actions like it to follow. Hence "current events form future trends".

Osmservices keeps being hacked away from me :-( th
Im going to go out on a limb here and probably get shot down in flames.

I believe the right decision was made!!

Someone STOLE nearly a third of the coin supply. That would have seriously lined there pockets and left honest, early investors / adopters potentially in the shit with a coin that was now worthless due to the theft, lack of security ( albeit on MP's part ) and probably a price in the gutter after a 8 mill sell off creating mass panic.

That's not fair on the honest folk who bought into the coin, some people spent big legitimate money on this.

Should MP have been held accountable for the loss, In a word "YES"!!! but do they have that cash available I would hazard a guess as NO!

THE only reason VRC was targeted is the explosion this coin has made on the market. An innovative coin with a great dev team. And a great price to sell your ill gotten coins for to make a shed load of cash.

My rant over, we need to stop talking about it now, whats done is done!

MP I hope have increased security even further moving more coins to cold storage quicker as by there own admission and the devs can get back to the GREAT work they were doing before someone knocked it all off track with the theft.

Im hoping VRC can recover and get over this issue as the coin was going to be right up there with the best altcoins.

Risk is associated with all types of investment that is very true from penny stocks to blue chip investments.
However this time I believe the right decision was made.

There is no FDIC in crypto for good reason...you must accept the risk (all kinds) to see the reward...this attitude is the stated reason Satoshi invented Bitcoin...

P.S. Do the math MintPal makes a shit ton of money...they just wanted to keep it.

@BitcoinPorn,

there is no real lesson if they were given back all that they should have lost in the hack.

Lessons come at a cost. There was no real cost to users who made bad decisions to keep their coins on an exchange that makes bad decisions.

I truly believe Mintpal did not suffer great enough consequences for what they did and the controversy they have helped ignite over what is right or wrong for digital coins.  I can only hope for a slow exit from the exchange by users.   I can't foul all the users in this case, as there is a mixture of day traders (I'm not a fan of) or people who found this was a way to get into either Vericoin or any coin really, as Mintpal lists a lot.  That $2 million dollars worth of coin could have been spread among any amount of users.   I am in agreement with you that probably not everyone here is learning any lesson, however the cost of the coin overall being gone completely from users who did not use that exchange should not have to suffer.

I seen the other post about someone saying there was an option to make that $2 million become null and void from the chain without having to rollback, I am not sure if that would have been the right option either, but I do know decisions did have to be made quick, and I think the devs made an optimal choice for the users of the still fairly new coin.

Perhaps the Vericoin model of responsibilities is too cloudy.

Developers develop...not dictate. As in attempting to correct an exchange's fuck up.

If one exchange can break the coin...then VERICOIN is quite vulnerable don't you think with its current model?

I say let it die and start new.

It isn't the developer's responsibility to ensure people don't make decisions that may cost them money down the road.

That is what the free market is for.
