have the questions been answered

a) will this happen again next time a theft occures?
b) what is the threshold-amount?
c) also for private wallets or exchange-wallets only?

furthermore:

did Mintpal ever provide any proof?
If yes: what proof?
If no: wtf?

you just took their word for it and forked the chain. Without any proof. Really? Did you just do that?

Well I'm surprised some of those questions haven't already been answered mainly the one about did mintpal ever provide any proof?  I didn't have any VRC but I was looking into it for a while so I'm very interested to see what outcome this rollback/hack will have on the coin and other things.  Sorry for those that got burned.

Nobody got burned besides the hacker as of right now.

We need to let the cards fall where they may. Out of chaos, comes clarity.

I would love nothing more than for the free market to destroy obvious garbage. Problem is there are so many idiots trading who only see dollar signs that gimmicky scams like this are just accepted as the norm

wow 2:1 for sells on bittrex.

See what happens when you ROLLBACK a blockchain.

MASSIVE FAIL!

WTV, Who's going to ever take payment in vericoin after yesterday. Not one major retailer ever will. The nails are in the coffin.

If VRC is a failure, why are you still here?

Just a question, but how long do you think they had to make descisions? They had to act fast, or things may have been to far gone, they assesed it was caught early enough and did what they did. Do you know what they where told or not told?
Whats your proof?

If no proof, WTF you spreadin FUD?
If you have proof, Show it.

maybe someone should ask psnoker why he was transfering 200k coins to bittrex during yesterdays original outage... it was clearly stated on irc.

The SEC should be alerted to this as its more of a HYIP than a decentralized crypto currency at this point.

asked and answered

(23:36:56) (@pnosker) leckey: fyi: I was transferring the 200k VRC to help wall Bittrex so I took losses instead of others
(23:37:04) (@pnosker) feel free to ask me that yourself
(23:37:10) (@pnosker) Or ask any of the exchanges
(23:37:14) (@pnosker) because I sent over 100k to each
(23:37:15) (@pnosker) to wall
(23:37:18) (tf2honeybadger) I'll back that up
(23:37:19) (+leckey) I wasn't the one who asked the question initially
(23:37:33) (+leckey) they mentioned IRC, so I relayed it here for info
(23:37:36) (tf2honeybadger) We actually froze pnosker's account when we saw it just in case, and then he explained and we unfroze.
(23:37:39) (@pnosker) even if not-- it was to preserve the coin
(23:37:58) (@pnosker) so that's the answer

Ok the wallet is working now and is the correct version. Syncing now too.

Thanks for the help people.

A question on stakes though.

I had a stake, before the new wallet came out with the rollback and it is now showing up with a ? next to it in my wallet. I assume that is correct as obviously that stake was on a different fork, so to speak.

Just wondered if this transaction will be here for ever more now, well unless I have a different wallet open etc.

I could add a few zeros to the assorted buy walls I see popping up on the exchanges.

I kinda wonder what that would do. You think if I stuck a 1k BTC buy wall up there, anyone would dump into it?

That's what I did, I uninstalled the wallet, did the backup, deleted the folder, ran the installer, installer said "This will install Vericoin version 1.3.3 on to your computer. I installed it, then waited ages and then it just sits here with no connections and then when I look at wallet info, it says version 1.3.2

Not sure what it going on..I might just take a break from this, just incase I am having a brain fart. lol

just go to the vericoin website: www.vericoin.info and redownload the windows installer! the new one 1.3.3 is pretty much identical in size to the old 1.3.2 and they both have the same name.

I mark this post for a few days from now when its above 100k satoshi.

You forget all this attention is going to be perfect for all the developments that had been planned to come out before this stuff happened.

To many eyes on the coin. To many people respect the developers to abandoned them. You will see a rise like you never thought possible in the days to come. You watch Smiley I know you will be!

That didn't work for me, I am still on 1.3.2 after I get it from homepage. I am not in a rush, am having same issue for windows.

Did you notice the installer says 1.3.3 though when you ran it?

yes. you on windows version as well?

Downloaded the Windows Wallet, when installing it says version 1.3.3

It took a while to sync up again as I had followed instructions, but am not getting any connections at all.

I looked at the wallet qt file in my folder that got installed and it is showing as version 1.3.2

Am not sure what is going on, have I got the correct wallet or not??

Thanks

Ian

you can open the wallet and check the version here: help -> about vericoin, if it says 1.3.3 you have the newest wallet.
check your vericoin.conf and add:

addnode=supernode.vericoin.info
addnode=supernode2.vericoin.info
addnode=supernode3.vericoin.info
addnode=supernode4.vericoin.info
addnode=supernode5.vericoin.info

I have those nodes added already, but my help, about vericoin says I have 1.3.2, but the windows installer has text that implies it is version 1.3.3, so it cant be anything to do with my cache or history or else the installer wouldn't even mention 1.3.3, file size is 54.8 megabytes

yeah, if you are on windows then the help->about vericoin will definitly say 1.3.3.
means you have the wrong wallet. just go to www.vericoin.info and redownload the windows installer, do a wallet backup, delete this folder C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\VeriCoin, uninstall vericoin then install the new wallet

That's what I did, I uninstalled the wallet, did the backup, deleted the folder, ran the installer, installer said "This will install Vericoin version 1.3.3 on to your computer. Bitcoin Protected, VeriCoin Stolen in Latest Exchange Wallet Breach
coindesk.com

Vericoin’s controversial response

The breach resulted in the loss of roughly 8 million vericoins (VRC), or about 30% of the total coins in existence, a member of the vericoin development team told CoinDesk.

The vericoin development team opted to hard fork the coin’s block chain in order to reverse the theft transaction. This was performed, they said, in order to both prevent the loss of roughly $2m in investor funds and stop a fraudulent actor from holding 30% of the coin’s proof-of-stake network capacity.
