I totally missed the ICO but if i would be invested here, i would suggest to help EK as much as you all can (devfunds, programming, testing, website, pr).
Just an observer who likes the project.

Let's agree on some important things.

If someone takes the codebase, changes randomly variables, makes something that is working and launches it without consent of EK and the community vote

IT IS NOT THE ELASTIC MAINNET

Secondly there are two options:

1) EK could use some developer help. We could put some ads if this community doesn't have and work through the dev fund
2) We let EK work alone and accept a time-frame that is unknown and not very close (which is fine by me, I didn't put my family's money in the project and you shouldn't have done it too).

If we are going to release a lite version someone has to write a paper and make analysis and projections on why it would be a better/more profitable choice for everybody since it can really put a tombstone to a fantastic project.

Launch is almost 50% of the success.

Elastic needs a lot more than just some developer help and the way to get that help is to release a lite version.

We don't even have a current white paper.  But there is a lot of people that would like to be a part of this project and we've closed the door on them by not releasing XEL on the exchanges.

If there was any other way for us to get the help that this project needs, other than launching a lite version, it would have happened by now and it hasn't.

Why is EK expected to give up his life just to complete this project for the rest of us?  With more devs, testers and PR people onboard, EK could get at least a part of his life back.

Let's just put it to the vote instead of all of this arguing.

Both sides need to state their case as to whether we launch or don't launch.

Currently, the views expressed by both sides as to the effects of the various options are pure speculation.

I think that we can and should release with some sort of an MVP.
To the best of my understanding as EK said pretty clearly, the PoW retargeting algo we currently have is a not good enough. This could cause substantial delay in the release  due to the time it could take to find something better.
I believe that we should consider the upside/downside of dropping PoW while remembering that we can still leave PoW functionality as a future feature to be offered  after more time has been spent to reach a better algo. Perhaps that could be some sort of reasonable temporary compromise so we can release something with enough meat in the foreseeable future - a limited working product,  while keeping some features for later releases/forks.

i think a voting is good solution for sure.

Let's have a vote.

It seems like there's three options:

  • Release the XEL tokens to allow new people (hopefully dev, test and PR) to gain a financial stake in the project and allow those that want to get out to do so.
  • Release a lite version
  • Wait until we have a MVP

Your first two options are the same actually - you can't release tokens without a lite wallet.
So, we have these options:

- Lite wallet allowing transfers - a week of work for EK
- MVP described by EK here https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.18931600 - for me it's few weeks minimum (if not few months)
- Full product - undefined features, undefined time

Thanks for clarifying.

So we really have only two options to vote for, lite wallet or MVP.

Full product is something that's a long way down the pipeline.

Thanksfor clearing that out. Good point, by releasing lite client new people can step in..

EK - can you please share what you would include as mandatory functionalities if we where to release an MVP before a full client?
Also, what would be your estimation regarding time frames for such release? where are we standing now in regard to such a client?
Your voice is highly needed.

From what I see, this is the current open points list:

- UI sucks. It must be redesigned to support all new features. Probably a weekend task.
- We need a decision what to do with our PoW payments. Bounties only means that people only earn XEL if they find a bounty (a solution to the task). This may be frustrating for jobs that have really hard-to-find bounties. I mean, the miner-software will evolve and people can configure "preferences" and start skipping jobs with too-long-to-get bounties and move to other jobs, but this still does not mean a guaranteed steady payout. Remember: the steady payout (the PoW payments) were originally meant to keep "miners" around and not let them give up working towards a bounty that quick.
- If we keep the PoW, we need a new scaling concept. The PoW retargeting mechanism works far from good at the moment - even though there way a multi-BTC contest for the best retargeting algorithm a few months ago. This is the most challenging think I guess.
- We need to make the supernode software super stable
- We need to think about the unsigned / signed integer problem that was identified lately in the ElasticPL parser/VM. Hopefully coralreefer could assist here. My "quick and dirty fix" is ... well ... "quick and dirty".
- We need to write test cases for all possible attacks that one might think of.

This is the minimum that is needed, I'd say.

tx!

I would suggest, let us focus on this key points and no new points added. We do not need a perfect solution. I think we have already more than enough to be good!
In my opinion, we need some stable version and we can hardfork later, but we need something to get the community get organized.

most senior members here agree for not launching a lite client I see and I agree Cheesy

+1

That's a speculation. Lets vote o elasticracy.

Senior members do not necessarily equate to investors.

Let's vote and do this democratically.

There are no "investors", only people who donated money...

We need to give a time for EK version.

For all sellers (dumpers) maybe we can set up some kind of escrow agent (approved by community)
who will have a right to do changes in / with genesis block

Technically the funds were donations, and nothing was really promised. So the devs can do what they please, which I think is wait until the project is finished to launch, but I'm not in need to dump any of my XEL. Others may for personal reasons.  Undecided

I have no need for a timeline. Someone mentioned August, that sounds about right. Doesn't matter to me.

Talking about the next steps of a project is not the same as setting deadlines. Dates are a joke in software.

I think it is awesome that EK put an MVP list out there. Now the community has a really good idea where it can/should be helping right now.
