I think it is hard to predict the future. What if developers finish their project with icobank and exchange?  
I am still mining and holding Xencoin.
I think of it as investment with several years horizon.
Some fluctuation within one or two Months is not so important for me.

Most of cryprocoins unfortunately have not much usage as payment coins at this time, people usually must exchange them into BTC or LTC or directly to USD to buy something useful such as computer parts.
So in my opinion regarding payments there is no big difference between Yacoin or Xencoin. But of course otherwise there are some differencies.
I agree that Yacoin is very cheap at this moment, so besides mining it it could be good idea to buy him at exchange as well.
When volume of exchanged coins is rising usually something important happens. So according to charts somebody is perhaps buying heavily all available Yacoins in expectation of price growth.
I couldnot decide which cryptocoin is the next Big coin so I invested my time and money among all promising coins. I think Ixcoin, Securecoin, Quarkcoin, Primecoin look promising. Even ADT and IFC or CENTs could grow a lot in next year.
You never know, I didnot want to buy CopperBars because I didnot trust them and thought that 0.5 LTC is too much for 1 coin but then they quickly jumped to 7 LTC (and the highest price was 15 LTC per 1 coin).
Thus I am still mining and holding Xencoin.

I personally stopped mining XenCoin.   The developer is inactive and no one has offered to continue to develop the coin.  There are multiple issues (besides the pre-mine that was most likely dumped) including the wallet is looking for more blocks then there are, solo mining accepts blocks with out giving reward, diffcultly doesn't change every 9 hours, and a few other items.

Other then offering billions of coins instead of millions, this coin doesn't really offer anything new.

Reading the comments in the thread, it looks like many people are looking for 'the next big coin.'   I personally have become very interested in YAC....   It has a super fast confirmation rate (1 min - fast enough to be useful in day-to-day life, with out an excessive number of stale blocks), dynamic reward, POS, and the first coin to have a increase hash difficultly.  This increases protection against ASICs and greatly handy-caps GPU mining.

YACoin has only recently been placed on the 'profitability charts' and people are just beginning to learn about the 'n-factor' of the coin.  I personally believe that was the reason for the increase in mining and the price drop.  The original developer has abandoned the project and Wind Master was the developer for several months.   Now he has passed the torch to two (highly active) developers.  YACoin has its own forum, website, and several active supporters/miners/enthusiasts.

With the PoS vs PoW and N-factor, this coin design is the most well though-out coin yet (to help prevent someone from controlling 51% of the blockchain.)  And with a 5% POS, it is on par of a high interest savings account and the national inflation.  With the new coin control feature in the wallet, and fast confirmations, I my intrest now turns to YAC - to become the first currency like cryptocoin.

I personally believe this coin has all of the right things to be robust enough to make it.   Prices are down, now is the time to buy....   while it's still affordable.

The only difference being active developers who updates the community with the progress of their exchange.  Xencoin, on the other hand, been quiet and ignoring questions from the community.

www.cryptsy.com exchange has promising advertising sentence "USD Markets (Coming Soon)" on top of every page on left side right under the main menu for Months, maybe since the beginning in May.
And nobody cares.
Almost every exchange is promising that it will be exchanging cryptocoins for fiat money USD or EUR but unfortunately it is very long process.
Developers of Xencoin shouldnot promise so much and people wouldnot be unsatisfied.
Except Bitcoin with every other coin you cannot buy anything (directly).

The price will rise and fall. Last 3 weeks price of many cryptocoins is going down in comparison with BTC or LTC.
But I believe in this coin. Of course developers are not active and it is an issue. But it is the issue which could be solved in future.
I trust in altcoins and when current price is low it might good to buy more coins at exchanges. I am sure it will turn. Maybe not all coins will grow significantly but many coins will grow and it will be sudden move, you will see.

In 2010 anybody coud buy 10 or 20 bitcoins for $1 but how many of us did it?
Now Bitcoin is going slowly up because of expectations of ETF fund and most of people are looking solely on bitcoin. But I am looking also on Xencoin, Securecoin, Quarkcoin and many other coins because I believe they will grow much more (in%) than Bitcoin. My friend works in a bank and the bank always earned most money on ordinary and subprime clients.
No matter if it is crisis or not it is always subprime people who pays the bills for the others. I assume it is very hard to earn fortune on bitcoin at this time. It is much easier to follow other interesting and subprime coins. I believe Xencoin survives all troubles and it will prove to be viable and useful for many users around the world. And thus its value in comparison with other coins can offer good opportunities.

I'm solo mining Xencoin, and I keep getting accepted blocks, but no coins show in the wallet. Oddly, I see there are "transactions" in my wallet, but no mined coins appearing... Any ideas?

according to http://www.coinchoose.com/litecoin.php Xencoin is the most profitable (in long term mining!!) 278%. It is on the first place for weeks.

By writing you dont get anything except higher nuber of posts. You should mine it. This coin has many odds. People only dont see it all at the first sight.

Price on cryptsy exchange is very cheap. Especially now when litecoins have almost only half value which they have a Month ago.
And you can still mine coins quite easily. Once developers clear their intentions and start the project it will skyrocket.
It will arise many new exchanges. And many sites offering services and goods for cryptocoins.
And all these exchanges and sites need the coins. Not only one coin like bitcoin but many kinds of coin to satisfy the needs of customers.
Not every coin is suitable for everybody. Not everybody wants expensive Bitcoin with confirmations which lasts hours. Many people would be happy with ordinary cheap coins such as Xencoin with 20 second confirmation or other coins. I am very interested in all these undervalued and currently overseen coins. Sure not every coin will evaluate 1000 times in a month. But it is more probable that at least several coins (like Xencoin) skyrocket during next half year and Bitcoin will only keep its value around current price.

I am still excited, according to http://coinmarketcap.com/ we are already on 28th place. As an investment it could be good.
For instance currently there are people who are trying to buy more and more share of Ixcoin (which is almost 100% clone of Bitcoin and during its history most of the time without developers and after two years you still cannot buy anything for it). To be frank, I dont have much money, so I cannot afford to buy Asics and mine bitcoins. But I can mine other coins like Xencoin and also can buy these coins at cryptsy. Especially now when LTC lost half of it value and it is still not the end.
Everybody's talking about bitcoin but since July till now (in two Months) it only doubled its price. Xencoin doubled its price within several days...
It is enough to have active community and people who are mining and Xencoin can go on.
I believe in minor coins like Xencoins, many (not all) have bright future. In comparison with Bitcoin where $1000 is less than a drop of water, here for Xencoins it means much.

I agree.   I have lost interest in this coin.  If the developers would have been active, and completed the projects they promised (rather then dumping the premine), the coin value would be much higher and I would still be mining it.   Not to mention they would have made 10x+ more times profit then dumping the premine coins so cheap.

I was excited about this coin....  it turned out to be another failure. 

Xencoin developers did log on yesterday again....

I think the same. It seems to me when price of Bitcoin suddenly goes up, many other coins from Litecoin to JKC or Xencoin goes down for a while. But in long term other coins can easily at least more than double their value however Bitcoin will stay around $100 for months.

During summer it always doesnot happen many new changes. Maybe I am hoping too hard but you see the price and its just gonna grow more.
Yesterday I was in a cinema and only 1 movie ticket itself was $8 (what is roughly 108 000 Xencoins at todays price if I counted correctly). This June Paramount Pictures announced it would be selling a $50 "mega ticket" for the release of "World War Z."

You dont risk anything, in case price of coin falls you will not go to the cinema but would have to download the movie from internet and watch it (for free) on your computer. But if Xencoin would be more widely accepted or become internal coin of exchange or a bank it will skyrocket.
When you look backwards it is always easy to say: I should have known it. My brother developes programs in C# and he always have problems to meet deadlines. You never know ahead how succesful project will be.
