YadaCoin is a blockchain social media protocol project that aims to enable micro-services with social media features that can seamlessly inter-operate to collectively offer a superior social media experience and finally defeat the current social media monopoly held by major tech companies.


We want to restructure social media to give smaller platforms an advantage by sharing users, relationships, and content with other platforms, using a blockchain called YadaCoin. Usually platforms think of their userbase as proprietary but we can create an economy of small services, hyper-focused, we can deliver a more relevant user experience than monolithic platforms that attempt to do everything.

For instance, Facebook has games, groups, news feeds, live streams, photos, videos, status updates, direct messaging, etc. But it's all under one user interface that could be broken apart into completely separate apps.

Currently, when starting a new platform, amassing a userbase is extremely challenging. YadaCoin, being only a protocol and not a platform itself, can help your platform grow using the relationships already established on other platforms.

For example, Alice friend requests Bob on platform A. Bob accepts Alice's request and they are now friends on the blockchain, thus also friends on platform A. A new service comes along called platform B and platform B friend requests platform A on platform A's platform. Platform A accepts platform B's friend request and now platform A and platform B are friends on the blockchain. Now a Bob comes to platform B to check it out. Bob sees some content he'd like to share with Alice. Instead of screenshotting or copying the content and uploading it to platform A, Bob shares the content on Platform B using the content identifier from platform B. Platform B could do a number of things to make sure Alice is notified, including: Platform B, who does not yet have a friendship with Alice, could send her a friend request (similar to an invite). Alice would accept this friend request and once Alice arrives at platform B, she would see the content Bob has shared with her on platform B.

Notice how Bob did not have to explicitly invite Alice to platform B.

You might be thinking, but how would Alice discover platform B without Bob, or any of Alice's other friends, sharing on platform B? For this work-flow we implement a standard to disseminate and aggregate gaming mechanic statistics cross-platform.

For instance, platform A would have content post A from Alice. Bob shares content post A on platform B. Eve, who is friends with neither Alice, Bob, or platform B, sees content post A on platform A, but below the content post, Eve is shown how many upvotes content post A has received on platform B. Eve then visits platform B for the first time and requests to be friends. Platform B accepts the request and platform B and Eve are now friends on the blockchain (registered).

By contributing to YadaCoin, you are taking part in a completely open source social media revolution. Censorship on social media has become a human rights crisis and taking part in YadaCoin will have a direct, measurable effect on our future.

As a potential user, why should I consider using YadaCoin?

Users will love how using YadaCoins for social interactions solves troublesome human behavior on social media. For instance, users who sent frivolous friend request will disappear because you must send YadaCoins to those you are friend requesting. Accepting the friend request returns the originally sent YadaCoins, but the recipient of the friend request will keep the sent YadaCoins if they choose to ignore the friend request.

Another example is spending a small amout of YadaCoins to post a status update. So much of social media is full of posts that the author may not have otherwise posted if a small investment was required. We don't have a scarcity of user generated content, we have an over-abundance problem. Because it's free!

YadaCoin is en exciting project that leverages blockchain technology to solve real-world problems that are happening as I write this post. It basically an emergency that this technology be adopted as fast as possible!
