I doubt they can afford to fab chips for so many different algorithms right now. They also made the mistake of not decoupling the algorithms on their X11 chips - they can be used for X11 only, and not any algorithm built from the same components. Look at Baikal and now PinIdea/DaYun X11 miners - they are also capable of hashing algorithms using different combinations of the X11 algorithms.

but if these are coming off their shelf from their active use;  they aren't impacting the overall algo sum net hashrates as if they are a new product.  You probably aren't considering this.
Their impact is minor considering the SPx36 units coming online, literally 31x the hashrate per unit.

Bitmain must have been sitting on a HUGE pile of inventory, such a low price. Granted these units don't make profit but the positive side is that its good for decentralization, D3's and l3's for everyone lols.

I'm wondering though, Is the bitmain 7nm scrypt and x11 miner just around the corner ?

Another way to save on their budget, reduce their cost on power use even if they get a sweet deal.

In your case JK you'll probably be ok with these, for others though these are losers unless you want to buy and hold till bull and be ready to power on. Then that takes risk and speculation that makes me uneasy to think about.

Then outside of stick miners, nice introductory units for hobbyists.

This ASIC with a speed of 17 gh/sec can now only generate income at a low price for electricity. For example, at a price of 6 cents per kilowatt, it gives only $ 12.6 per month net (3 months payback). But if we take into account the increase in difficulty of mining, the payback may increase up to a year.

ill probably end up picking up one or two via private-party in-person sales locally... something like craigslist.

This is smelling exactly like when the S3 was selling for ~$40.....   I made a killing profit wise (again, power is not a factor for me in most respects) and sold them for the same or more later.

Even if they are bricks after;  I feel they could shadow the trend I saw with the S3.

Hopefully there are new units coming. Imagine they're trying to soften the blow to their over forecast on budgeting still.

Presumably, new devices will soon be on the market

See Difficulty change in 15 days:

10/19/2018   75,613,129.05108766
                   to
11/03/2018   123,796,387.46909369

I think that’s mostly due to SPx36 (540GH/s).

The manufacturer uses at the moment the miners and sells them later as new.

If you are lucky, the miner run years without problems.

4 of 5 my Antminer D3´s were partially defective within 180 days.

It only deserves the manufacturer. That will never change.

I do not buy miners anymore.

If you go for it, you assume that the price of the coin goes up.

Then you can buy the coins without the whole effort and the fear that the device is defective at some point.

At Bitmain, you can assume that:
- The miner is perhaps needed.
- Parts will eventually break and you have to pay for shipping costs.
- That you have very bad service.
- If you reclaim a miner. You become a koroded miner as a replace Miner.

The labour is basically very cheap in China when they are going thru the hassle of actually selling these things, packaging them up and shipping them.

If this was an American company, they probably would of sold them for scrap and got their accountant to write them off as a loss somehow.

No idea if they switched industrial case fan manufacteurs but I am pretty sure that 2 of those fans alone cost more than $39 USD in the retail market.

there will be new batches of new models soon very very soon
so they are dropping their old equipment for people with free electricity I guess
I had couple customers taking my old batch S9s L3s and even D3 recently
after asking them why the answer was same - free electricity

I think people are missing the point of OP's post.  Obviously these are cheap because they are worthless.  But with that said, all of their miners share a common platform.  Certainly they could reuse the fans, chassis, and network interfaces, and those have to be worth $39.  Of course then they have to pay some to take them all apart.  $39 might still be making them a profit sadly.

39$ + 95$ psu + 100 $to 140 $ shipping . we will take 120$ as an average.

that is 254$ of total cost.

so , if you are paying anything above 4 cents per kw  then your profit is NEGATIVE.

according to what to mine, assuming you pay 4 cents per kw you get 17 cents mining dash ( do not bother about what Nicehash show or those other coins on cryptopia that you can't even find a proper pool for.

so 17 cents daily. for the sake of simplicity , we will assume difficulty stays the same, and dash price spikes up real good almost 100% . and you make 25 cents a day

.25 * 30 =  7.5 $

ROI = 254 / 7.5 = 33.8 months Cheesy .

in plain English, even with free power you will never ROI on this thing, i bet a horse that the hash boards will be bricked long before you ROI.

good luck.

That's scary.

I have reclaimed two broken D3 Hashbaords.

During the Golden Week in China, the package was not picked up by Bitmain.

Bitmain refuses to send me 2 boards and I should send the package again.

Thats a joke. 2 x shipping costs for two boards.

I hope Bitmain goes bankrupt. I will not buy by Bitmain anymore.
