Could we get a lil hint of when anouncement will be.  Checking these pages every 1/2 hour.
Just calm down, it doesn't warrant that much attention.
Yes, for you maybe not.  But if the specs are what they presume and they learn their lesson from the S1 kits it could be the most efficient miner currently.  Could be a good thing for those of us that have S2's.  They failed with the S1 kits.  But it also may be an announcement for upcoming tech.

I could also see bitmain wanting the kit's for them self. If they still have any data centers with S2's it would make sense they would want to upgrade machines.

Weren't the S1 upgrade kits nearly as expensive as an S3 when released?  Price would need to stay under $350 if indeed they will output 2th.

Yes.  The savings for getting an S1 upgrade kit were only BTC.12 cheaper than buying a full S3+ back in August, or $60 (20% savings vs an S3). Based on the price of the S4 and S5's, I would predict between $500 and $600 for the upgrade to 2.25-2.5 TH/s.  Purely speculation until they release it though, and I hope they sell it for cheaper.

What also could affect the change in pool is Bitmain putting all there stock that didnt ship before the holidays on the line.

No idea, I was mining Scrypt back then.  I've only recently finally started mining SHA256.  I'd be interested to know, though.

If I read the latest stats right, its seems antpool has increased hash power quite a bit. Pure speculation, but it could indicate they have upgraded any S2 they still had. If there's a business case for it, why wouldn't they upgrade their own miners first? So we may be seeing official news on the upgrade at the beginning of March?

Again, pure speculation.  Grin

Nearly 3 times.  The two that I have consume 1100-1200w for just over 1TH, so they're basically 1.1w/GH

Please keep in mind that chip's efficiency and power consumption of the whole S2 "at the wall" are different things.  Wink

True. In this quote they said <.4 at the wall, so I'm hoping that's accurate!

"S2-replace PCB will be released after Chinese Spring Festival, and it will be serial powered too, and its power consumpiton at wall will be less than 0.4W/G"

I sold my S2's when S4's came out and Bitmain said there would be no upgrade path.   Angry

They never actually said there would be no upgrade path. They said there would be no 2nd-gen upgrade since the S2 was still profitable when S4 was released, and S4 wasn't that much of an improvement over S2. They said they might develop an upgrade with the third chip generation.

For 'native' S2 0.4 Wt/Gh means that efficiency has improved twice...

But they have other equipment right now thats 0.5W

I highly doubt that it will be cost effective to upgrade the S2.

You save on shipping, heatsinks, fans, case, controller, and PSU.  Don't see how it couldn't be...
+1.
that said, bitmain might still try to overcharge for the kit.  Id love toupgrade my S2 units since they are basically breaking even right now and were losing money just a week or two back
