Sooo... who's thrown away their BTC on the S4 already?

LOL I laughed out loud when i saw $1450 EXCL shipping - felt it may have been worth it if it was based on around 2BTC but fk that im happy with what i got and in light of the fact that its gonna be noise-E-errrrrrr than an SU-37 taking off on full afterburner - have decided to pass on these. Blatant ripoff in my opinion.
Blatant Blatant price gouging by a company that has probably had 5000 of these in a datafarm for the last 6 months.
Very unimpressed Bitmain!!!

happy with my 18 S3's Wink

how much off were the coupons for S2 owners? Just curious

$200.  They cover all the details on the sale page.   https://bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020140916100720380cS1tRWd00684

Good info there thanks. I hadn't seen the updates item.

Not I.  That thing will never make back the BTC you spent, even with free electricity, unless something crazy happens to the increasing difficulty.  If the price of BTC goes up I may consider it.

one of my upgrade kits isn't working. I think it's has something to do with the fact that it's showing 4 chains under miner status. Please help:

The fans give a speed indication output.  I don't know what kind, digital or analog.  The fan speed is controlled by pulse width modulation.  I don't see a corresponding hashing board temperature and fan speed though one goes up so does the other.  If I saw three miners having a 40° board temperature and all three have the same speed, I'd say there was a digital feedback loop but this is not the case.  So, one might assume that there is a ramp or curve that says when the temperature is A the fan speed supply voltage will be X, temp B gets voltage Y and temp C gets voltage Z.  The speed indication just giving an indication of change versus temperature to the user.

The bad hashing board having a declining hashrate and a declining temperature might indicate the fault is elsewhere except that even after a cold start, after significant cooling time such that hashing starts over 442 and works its way down over hours, shows a lower temperature and fan speed early on.  If that slower fan speed causes errors away from the temperature sensor, those ASICs may shut down engines and slow hashrate but not quickly effect temperature indication.

So the slow fan speed relative to temperature should be addressed.  The problem may be in the pulsed width voltage supply line.  A partial open, high resistance, in a plated thru hole, e.g. dull drill bit left fiber in the hole, the hole only partly plated.  So, that's where I'll look first when I troubleshoot.  I'll follow the pulsed with fan voltage first, then the ground and perhaps the speed indication pair, looking for something amiss.  But not today.

Is the S3 still being produced, or will it be back on sale again soon?

they are not currently selling on Bitmain, but ebay sells them for 287+ ship. Hard to ROI at that price... Maybe S3+ will be restocked soon, better to wait....

can someone explain this to me? What is wrong with this picture? I am running the latest image.... Fans even hitting 12,300 RPM, pretty soon my S3 is going to be flying around the room!

Search Ebay for butterfly nets.

Sorry....

They don't say anything in the manual about what to do when your S3 flies around the room!

Have you tried increasing the freq over 250 since changing? - Looks like extra CPU might equal more work into the asics.

I've tried, but.... Still one S3 at 250, another can't do it and hashing at lower frequency.

Strange that it would disappear.

Normally even after selling out they stay listed for a week or two.

I'm guessing they didn't sell as many as they thought they would.

didnt sell as many? it was out of stock with more coming... well Chinese english translation of "Up Coming" would get that.

funny how the S4 is priced but NOT INCLUDING SHIPPING.... so over priced plus u r paying shipping....
AntMiner S4 is 1,450 USD per unit (excluding shipping)

oh and I hear BFL is shutdown... oh... yeah....
