I don't have a good feel for the future of mining. At least my S1s have provided their ROI and are still mining at a cost of about $320/BTC (cost of electricity). Will turn them off when they become unprofitable. Fun hobby that at least paid for itself, but may be best to quit while ahead Cool

we need price rise. if btc was 1500 usd all will work.

current 550 usd is not good.

This is what we all need to be talking about. Once it creeps back up again, things will look a lot better.

The S3 is no longer profitable even with free electricity, my previous 90 day ROI was based on a 10% difficulty increase, with 18% it changes everything.
Using the lower price of S3 taking bitcoin price at $565, the S3 will most likely go up in btc if btc goes down, ROI is taking 111 days with free electricity and free power supply, if we add any cost for electricity or ps there is no ROI.

Assuming my B6 arrives tomorrow night as predicted by UPS, this is what I get for the "free" power case, 7 days in this level, 23% next level and 16% thereafter. Since the PS is re-usable, I still show ROI in 115 days.

Very optomistic using 12 days for bumps.  We just lost 3 days in a 1 day spike.

I'm shopping for free power.then I will shoe horn these things in and forget about them for the next 2 years

@BITMAIN:  sent you email.

Yesterday i received 1 parcel of the 2 i was waiting.

I didnt have to pay, but declared value was 523,35$ for 1 S3(thats not what i payed, i payed for 2 S3 --> 1.152BTC = 492.07 EUR = 657,195 USD).

So i need an invoice in EUR of 0.576 BTC = 246.04 EUR = 328.597 USD because the other parcel with the S3 is at customs, till i send them the invoice.

thanks

see, this was declared value for 1 S3, thats 523,35 USD right?:

Where did you see USD? 523.35 Yen Yuan! And I don't think that's the declared value because that's only 5 84 USD. It must be a delivery charge or something.

Did you make sure the heatsinks were tight? Sounds like heat issue.

I have not taken any of my S3s apart. Is that what you are suggesting? The temp is always under 40C.

It's good practice to always open up a new miner and check boards/tighten up heatsinks and check cable connections before you plug in and turn on for the first time. I've seen very bad things happen when people have not done this. It's a rough ride from China. I'm doing some research about your problem. If I get some info ill post back.

Hi BITMAIN.

As you're an official representative of bitmain, may I ask you to please provide the source code for your modifications to cgminer in the form of the driver for the S3. cgminer is provided under the GPL version 3 license which means you are obliged by law to provide the source code to any modifications you do if you distribute binaries and you are distributing modified cgminer binaries with every S3.

Provision of the source code would allow us to aid the development of your driver and help bring your version to sync up with the latest cgminer to derive the benefits of newer versions along with its many fixes.

That's what BitMain will recommend doing is taking off the heatsinks and reapplying the paste. I've got an undeperformer with a "-" asic, so I'll start there first. My temps are the same as yours and I only get 410 now.

we are fucked with next difficulty increase...  Angry
Maybe, maybe not... lets just see what it (the diff) is when it happens. Hell, maybe Bitmain will give us coupons or something to help out. They are by far the more reliable company out there.

The cause of the big jump is a large data centre coming online, not Bitmain or Spondooley.

http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2014/08/01/bitfury-asic-maker-builds-20mw-bitcoin-mining-data-center/

There are more big hashrate hikes coming because Bitfury are not the only ones planning on opening more DC before XMAS.

See: http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2014/07/15/bitcoin-infrastructure-may-grow-600m-second-half-2014/

Worst case scenario according to that article, the network hashrate will be at 700 PH by xmas, with a difficulty at a guess, somewhere in the 879 mark.

Same shit happened with web hosting back in the day, data centres cornered the market. Then a large chunk of the world ditched websites, forums etc for Facebook and now its down to about 4 principle clouds, Microsoft Azure, Rackspace, Google, and Hewlett-Packard.

So if it hits 700 PH as some predict by XMAS, then yeah, home mining is fucked and big business will have won again.

its better to leave this kind of task to the professional one, i prefer DHL, but lets see what's best in ur country sir

its just that in customs using EMS they stop for example from 30 parcels, 5, and they require you information about that parcel.

Thats what they told me right now. i have to send them information about the parcel, so maybe i have to pay for that S3.....

didnt have to pay for 1st one. DAMN! Angry Angry Angry Angry

yeah i know UPS and DHL its faster, but you have to pay ALWAYS customs with them(unless you live in USA of course)...

greedy for "free".. its not good bro

lets see
u lose about half month of mining

&

about 7days from now, there'll be a big jump in diff.

if u dont want to pay customs, then just host it, GAW, pcfli (china) or somewhere else

with the 18% difficulty increase, maybe it is due to the sp30 being shipped, I do not think it is due to the S3 since they are on batch 7, and batch 6 did not sold out, so that means sales are slowing down.

With the huge difficulty increase coming 18%, lower bitcoin price which means the S3 is going up in bitcoins to compensate for the lower btc price in dollars and the fact that it is not sold from stock.

The S3 is no longer profitable even with free electricity, my previous 90 day ROI was based on a 10% difficulty increase, with 18% it changes everything.

2016

It is taking almost 2 years to ROI 0.2 BTC with free energy and power supply.

At 10 cents the kilowatt there is no ROI, things are getting worse just a few weeks ago the point of no ROI was 25 cents per kilowatt with free power supply.

This means the S3 is dead unless the price is dropped bellow 0.5 BTC on the next batch, and most likely on the next batch it will stay at 0.66 or go up to 0.68 btc, and 0.65, 0.64 will not help since there have been already 3 batches in which the price has not dropped.

At this time I would suggest to wait, sales are slowing down, not everyone has free energy and a free power supply, sp30 sales are slow, the current batch has not sold out and current batch will not ROI one powerful reason to stay away from pre orders, once the sp30 stops selling they may start selling from stock and lower the price, if they do then the S3 will have to lower the price to stay competitive, otherwise it will go the way knc has gone. S3 sales are also slowing down, bath1 sold very quickly, so did batch 2, and 3, 4, batch 5 took a long time to sell out, and batch 6 did not sold out, I predict that batch 7 will not sell out at current price.

we will be lucky if the early S3 batch1 to batch 5 can ROI, batch 6 and up it looks very bad for ROI.

So I'm *hopefully* gonna get my sp30 by sept 31st maybe... or so...at the worst..hmmm...
a couple 25% difficulty jumps and I will prove my ability to 'beat the odds' by always buying miners
in the middle of the herd....at worst possible time...max price for miner...max difficulty jumps just
before and when you get it

what can I say...its a gift....

kinda was gonna get an antminer S3 er..maybe ..just maybe ....i should just shuffle off and cry
in a corner w/o one.

this lemming better start learning some lessons and just make www.coinbase.com his friend...

timing is everything and I have everything BUT timing..(should make that my motto)
