The only issue with ordering directly from Bitmain is that they don't take PayPal, only Bec and I don't have any since I am new to this. Plus PayPal is very easy to use.

You are on the wrong forum then.

Gee you are very helpful, thank you!

I was joking about what you said about PayPal. Sorry if I offended you. Smiley

There are several guides and exchanges where you can get your bitcoin. The mining forum isn´t really the best place to start (although some mining companies do take $)

Got the email that my first 2 B2 orders shipped.
Order Date: 2014-07-02 06:32:18 (paid for within minutes).
Order on website listed as "shipped".
Opted for the refund, that is still listed as "Init".

Right on schedule.

Orders of magnitude better than Butt F*&^%$g Laboratory (BFL).

Right ON Bitmain!

I was Batch 1 and did not get my Tracking number until the 20th. Did not arrive until Today. Seems I was on the ass end of that deal lol.

I think you're about to be scammed, dude.

well this is the weird bit, they are saying I can have the refund if I want but will obviously loose my pre-order. Not sure if I should just wait until 31st July and see if they come through or just ask for refund now. I got nothing to lose at the moment as I have time to escalate the dispute with Paypal and the seller has been responding to my messages so have been cooperative.

Refund.  Wait for Bitmaintech to sell Batch 4 and order at that time like everyone else.  Remove the middle man.  Get your order direct from the source, and lose any doubt you have about it being a scam.

yeah but what if they are an honest seller? All I am doing then is losing spot in the queue, waiting for refunds to be done and then trying to order another unit form someone else weeks later.

They aren't an HONEST reseller. They are promising times of shipping that BITMAIN can't even promise, nobody has heard a word from BITMAIN in days regarding shipping yet this copycat company knows  Roll Eyes - why on earth would you trust them?

Well I asked for a refund which they promptly did so that’s nice.

Its really hard to know in this wild wild west if they are a scam or not. I replied to them and thanked them and also suggested they should have reps on forums like this one to spread a good word about their company and instil confidence in potential buyers minds.

So I possibly lost a spot and now have to wait for refund to hit my CC which might take a while.

Can someone recommend other reputable sellers that sell the Antminer S3 ? Preferable in Asia e.g. Hong Kong for quicker shipping?

I'd just order from BitMain at bitmaintech.com/product.htm. They're based in Shenzhen and they will get you Batch 4 quicker than anyone since they produce them. We can all vouch for them. They are one of the very few manufacturers that are decent. The vast majority of them are scammers or quickly turn into them.

Can you say HashFast?

Question for you S3 owners.

What is considered the "overclocked" speeds that require 4 PCI-e connectors?

Many power supplies are a pain now a days, I don't know what to do if I plan on running 2 off one PSU because 8PCI-E cables is really not the norm.

On the Supernova 1300 G2 by EVGA it has 6 PCI-E 8pins, and not enough molex to do a molex to pci-e adaptor. Also curious what kind of PSU you all are using for these units.

Any advice will be great, thanks in advance!

My best guess would be above 504 GH as this is the original speed of the S3 before they started mass production.
The specs stated that only 2 connections were required and that the additional 2 were for overclocking.

the evga has six cables  4 single cables and 2 double cables……

you can use 2 single cables and a double cable filling all 4 jacks.

Been there done that.

As for overclock  225 237 250 = overclock.

Having trouble setting up a static connection. My gateway is 192.168.0.1 but antminer is on 192.168.1.131 now that I changed it but it won't connect when I connect it to the router.

I see that I needed to have router ip in the wan settings on the miner. I changed that bit is still not connecting.

What am I missing?  Should I change the miner ip to 192.168.0.131 to being it on board with the router?

Your miner has to be on the same network . yes.

Changed it and now I can connect to the miner via the router and my pc. Its still not hashing though. I have all my pool info entered okay. I think my wan settings are off now. It's there anything else I would need to set? Otherwise I think I need the correct wan settings for a 192.168.0.1 setup.

I have it set to static
Ivp4 192.168.0.131 seems right now that I can connect to router and connect via pc
Ipv4 mask 255.255.255.0 seems right
Ipv4 gateway 192.168.0.1 I entered my routers default
Ipv4 broadcast not sure with this I have 192.168.1.1
Custom dns I had 192.168.1.1 and I'm about to try 8.8.8.8

DNS need to be the routers ip address 192.168.0.1 or Open DNS or Google DNS or your providers DNS servers all will work. Broadcast is 192.168.0.255 in your case. Gateway will be the routers ip address 192.168.0.1

Anger is a gift.
Found out why one of my units was not hashing and having X's on the chips. Paste was everywhere on the inside. Even the screws holding the heat sink on had thermal paste on them.
images removed

Messy paste wont effect anything but poor cooling, unless your units are overheating, that's not the problem
His look far better than mine did... lol.  I had paste on the chips, on the pcb, on the connectors... everywhere.

correct me if i am wrong, but if others suggest that paste is there to provide a thermal connection between a chip and a heat sink, then with heat sink sitting on the top of the chips in s3, I don't see how it could be done by anything other than having paste on the top of the chips (but not necessarily on connectors, I get that).

not sure what you are asking there...

are there other ways to have a thermal connection between chip and heat sink? sure, you can buy thermal pads. search ebay. youll see in the specs that they are massively electrically resistant. need 1000's of volts to make them conduct. Same goes for thermal paste. Its very unlikely that swimming in thermal paste (even on connectors) would cause any problem at all...

yep, but the OP said that cleaning paste improved his machine. If what you are saying is 100% correct about swimming in thermal paste not causing any problems, then why his S3 was improved by removing excess and reapplying some? I just want to understand and from what I heard here, it seems that paste should be on the top of the chip in S3.

After cleaning all the paste off the chips and surrounding PCB, the unit is working at 440 GH/s after 6 hours. All that extra paste can mess with the voltages on a chip and cause hardware issues. Thermal paste should always be on top of the chip with none running over the sides. On a full sized CPU an amount the size of a pea should be applied. On a small ASIC chip the paste should be just a tiny amount and let the heat sink spread it out. If mine is not that bad, all I can think is some dude with a Taco Bell sour cream gun filled with thermal paste is shooting this stuff on.

Anyone order from 112Bit?
One order. They do seem to do a lot of business. So far my experience hasn't been great but wasn't scammed. I'm hoping to hear back soon as I have been waiting 3 business days for a response.

My experience seems to be an outlier.

Looks like 1 of 3 is a winner:

Just play with each setting and leave it for a few hours these S3s take a while to even out.

you have 25 times more discarded shares than accepted. I am not sure that it means anything, though.

Can someone clarify if that means anything? That's the case for me as well and I'm not even running it overclocked.

Good point. For comparison here are stats on OC S1 I have:

I guess in the end it doesn't matter I have checked and both servers report my total TH as 4.1(same value as adding avg hash rate for each miner)

Got the first one running.  Had to change the broadcast address to be on 192.168.0.255 and used 8.8.8.8 as the dns.

And after only a minute this one is running at about 440 gh/s on a 500 watt corsair bronze.
