Did I read correctly that it only needs 2 PCI-e cables connected to run as normal (not overclocked)?

Correct. 2 for regular, 4 for OC'ing.

What I do not understand is this sentence: "Don’t parallel connected different DC input from different PSU into the same Hashing board." So does this mean you need two PSU if you're overclocking?

only connect pci-e power from one psu to each board, dont take power from two separate psu to the same blade

I understand they mean dont use 2 PSU for same hashing board. Anyways, with 1 PSU u can connect 4 PCI-e so no problem

I would think the opposite just use 1 psu with 4  pcie cords not 2 psu each with 2 cords.  best to be careful  let some one else be the first tester of that

I see a lot of people asking about the S1->S3 upgrade kits...I don't think people are going to be very happy with them price-wise.

Think about it - the controller and base-board are about the only parts that would be shared. All of the ASICs are having to be replaced - that's where most of the cost comes in. So what, you save 0.1btc by buying the upgrade, but you lose the ability to sell the S1 (which are for quite some time going to continue selling for more than 0.1btc)

More importantly, it would be good to see upgrade plans/pricing for existing S1/S2 owners. That will make a big ROI difference depending on price.

@Bitmain, any details you can disclose yet on when/how much those upgrades will cost?

Estimates from Bitmain on S2 upgrade prices/features would be very useful right now.

no problem, they are ensuring the network

Funny (or sad) thing is that professional investors who run gigantic farms will soon be out of business ... even at $0.05/kWh.
Lesson: Never underestimate the stupidity of the masses  Grin

Well who's stupid? Miners ,builders , investors all of them?

Like it or not it grows by it the cyber coin universe is expanding as I type.

Do you know what would kill it off.

Raise interest rates to 5-7 percent.  Bring back 30yr  US  Bonds at 9%.  = Death to this universe.

Here is the deal people with a little bit of  extra money or a lot of  extra money need places to invest it.

Buying cyber  coins is like buying stocks .  Passive investing.   Mining is more like running a business active.

Does it really do anything does it have a purpose?

Yes it offers a chance to make some money if you work at it and it is your own business so to speak.

One you can do in house.

and do you know parameters for overclocking S3 ?
and if you want to overclock, you need to connect 4 PCI-e connectors instead of 2?

I would say yes:

Here is info from Bitmain:
"There are 4 PCI-e connectors for +12V DC input, but it only needs to connect two of them if without overclocking (PSU not included). Don’t parallel connected different DC input from different PSU into the same Hashing board."

Need to wait for some testing performed on the life machine.

yeah thats why i asked hehe. I have S1 and i have them overclocked and just had to connect 2 PCI-e

no problem, they are ensuring the network

the network is over-secured.

after the asic inflation comes the "network trust inflation".

people starting to realize that buying asic is not so profitable anymore.

Asics have always been a shot in the dark.  I should have just bought coins when I could (when I started my interest into btc they were about £50 each)  But getting hardware is far more interesting than sitting there with some numbers on a screen.

I personally see mining like a fun hobby.  I paid off my initial investment this April, and am still getting 17 usd per week profit after electricity costs.
