Lucky it didn't burn your place up if it had set on fire. Doesn't really inspire confidence in mining at home especially when everyone is out...

Update

Fitted new controller = working

Removed burnt cable plug from old controller and swapped with burnt hash board plug

Re-soldered new plug onto hash board

Result all working  Smiley

I've bit the bullet and ordered IO board and cable.

Will take the hash board out and check that when I get the chance. May just overclock the remaining 2 to 725/750.

I will just run that into the ground then.

let us know how it works.  and keep the third board off line at first.

I'm not in US, in the UK.

I can get controller IO and cable from Bitmain for $20, but the shipping is $40! what a rip.

Their warranty basically covers nothing.  It is not a warranty its just a list of ass covering...
They take responsibility for nothing, so everyone has to lose money and suffer due to their incompetence.

sorry

this is their biggest flaw when gear dies they fuck you.
it has happened to me one time.

and frankly  i think in your case  the board had an issue and killed the wire and the controller.

you  may need 3 parts the wire the controller the board.

you could try selling the other 2 boards on uk ebay

Thanks for the help,

This is what I have emailed them after them being rude and dismissive

I know you state that no burnt parts are covered under warranty, but how can a defective item NOT be covered under warranty?

I have spent a lot of money with you over the past few years, I think you should send me a new control board and cable under warranty.

This is not a fault of myself, only a manufacturing fault with either the hashboard or the controller.

The controller has over volted and melted the cable, nearly causing a fire.

Please consider sending out a controller board and cable to me under warranty, I feel it is your responsibility with a faulty product that almost caused a fire!

I have also emailed Bitmain Warranty, they were helpful before in sending out new blade for S3.

I have bought 32+ S3's, 2 C1's, 30 odd S1's and now 3 S7's.

I think the least they could do is send out replacement parts for a 2 week old unit that melted due to their own manufacturing issues!!

As far as getting a replacement part under warranty with  ordering https://bitmaintech.com they are going to have final say.  So you can go back and forth and get lucky but with warranty worded how it is I'm not sure on that.  I was afraid of that happening that is why I mentioned it above - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.15321898 .

BitmainWarranty are great as mentioned before but it will be paying  for repairs since it was not ordered from them which means not under their warranty.   If you order from them in future though you do get better service if you need warranty work.   So a little more up front but it really can save you from down mining time, and less hassle on warranty work.

Bitmain are telling me this is not covered under warranty...

I know they state "no burnt parts are covered etc"

But surely a faulty item IS covered?

Sidehack - What would I need to fix this?

Control board and new cable..

Do you think the hash board has been damaged?

If I soldered 3 18pin connectors onto another controller board, would that work? Does the firmware allow for only three boards?

do not attepmt .  you most likely need a new control board and the hash blade that was attached to that burnt wire was most likely bad.

If you are in the states contact bitmainwarranty  ask if you can send it in to him for replacement.

I have to say they are fucking you and it is complete bullshit, but this is the greatest flaw of bitmaintech if the gear goes bad they basically say fuck you blow me bitch.

I have purchased more then 30k in gear from them over the years and they even sent me a free demo s-5 for review.
But the two bad items of the 50 they sent were a nightmare.

bitmainwarranty is in Colorado  they are not bitmaintech   they are a 10 or 20 ph in gear customer of bitmaintech  and they are your best bet.

but you will take a loss here.

Just be quick to decide if you want to repair it with bitmaintech or say fuck it and toss it out.

third choice you could mail it to sidekick as a donation if he said yes.

be glad it was not an s-9.

Control board is accessible but stuck in the past thinking it is connected lol.

Thanks for the info, as will probably need to supply more info to Bitmain for warranty / repair.

Yes it's a strange one!

Curmudgeonly hardware guy
Everything on that cable is 3.3V or less. Nothing should be pulling enough current to do that kind of damage. I would guess either the hashboard backed power up that cable, or a switching regulator on your control board shot craps, the end result being a lot of probably 12V (or thereabouts) going through it. I'd be very surprised if the control board was functional or even repairable.

That's why I posted the pic!

Had melted / burnt PCI-e on S3's, but this looks like faulty controller cable.

Pretty weird! It no longer hashes, it shows 2 x blades with 48 chips each even when no blades are plugged in.

Pretty sure controller board is not working lol

It is a server PSU.

Here are pics

(pics above)

Interesting I was expecting to see on PCIE slots not on cable there.  What is the brand/model server PSU you were using?   Server PSU does not really tell a lot.

Hopefully I did a decent job explaining on warranty.  Which site did you purchase the miner from?

I have never seen a picture like that.

the pcie slots are not burnt.

looks like he had a bad cable control cable.

his best bet is to contact bitmain warranty

https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/myrig-383527

https://bitmainwarranty.com/

USA based  and you will be charged money but the bitmaintech warranty is worse since shipping it to china is too much coin.

I mentioned them above -  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.15321898 as they do have great customer service and quicker with being in US.  In future if you purchase from BitmainWarranty you actually get your warranty work done in US when under warranty vs standard channel and having to ship to China (and you have a number to call if you prefer).

As phil mentioned you can talk to them as they really are great on customer service just know in advance you do not get warranty work from BitmainWarranty if you purchased from standard bitmain store. You must purchase unit from BitmainWarranty for them to cover warranty work. You can ask what they think though as I also have not seen this so not sure how much it would cost for repair.  So I have no idea what cost of repair would be vs sending it to standard channel if still under warranty there as you mentioned OP.
