You are hurting the amount you make by turning it off. You are not going to get 100 percent if you turn it of 1/3 of day.

no they are designed to run 0-24, just be sure your room has a good ambient temperature, and that the fans work at 50% speed at least, now that the summer is coming you should not keep them at less than 50%

If you don't leave it on, there will be no shares being sent to pool. It does not matter if you use a pool based on luck, rental, fixed, taking 8 hours off will not make you money.

So it's not that you lose luck, you just do not get any credit for shares as you are not mining.

I suggest taking a look over at the antpool FAQ. I hope it can fill in some of what I feel again is being lost in translation.

First the pool is: What's the lucky figure?
The earnings assigned by PPLNS mode with 0% fee. Under the same hash rate, the higher lucky figure the pool has, the more earnings you will be assigned.

If you turn off miner you have no hash rate, so no earnings.

If you turn off S3 for 8 hours obviously you will not get credit for mining. You essentially would only mine 2/3rds of a day. You should not turn off because of luck, but because you will earn anything for down time.
