Merit & new rank requirements
I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.
Do you think you have a single post that meets the first hope of theymos?

Writing a welcome message
If you view the forum as some sort of "job" where you complete some basic tasks and get paid, then you will almost certainly be disappointed, and the forum administration will not be sympathetic. If you do make money using the forum, then it will be through innovation and entrepreneurship, not any sort of mindless busywork.

Forum rank

When you start out, you are a Newbie, and you will run into various annoying limits. These limits will be reduced to the point where you shouldn't usually notice them after you have participated in the forum for a few weeks. If you are on the forum to talk, then that's all you really need to know about rank. Don't worry about it too much, and you will eventually rank up.

If you want to maximize your rank, then you need to increase two statistics which are listed on your profile:
  • Activity, which is maximized by posting once per day on average. Posting more than that is useless in raising your activity.
  • Merit, which is gained by making good posts.

Maybe start with posting actual helpful and constructive content. You won't be able to earn merit just by increasing your post count and activity count alone. Your posts must be worthy enough to actually receive merit. It's something like a Janitor asking why he's not earning the same wages as a manager. Something like that. Not trying to be rude, but that's the only example I can think of right now.

I suggest doing some actual reading about Bitcoin. Once Bitcointalk readers notices that your posts are actually good enough, then you'll receive merit. Best of luck!

I've been a member since 2017 but somehow have not been able to earn a single merit. lol. Does anyone else also have trouble and what can be done to increase ones chances of getting some?
A lot of member having trouble earning merits but thats because it is hard to do so, but its because some users dont do quality posting.

Merits are subjective but also if your post has been like by others even its only a simple answer to such inquiry or have humor thoughts. Someone will definitely merited you.

Dont post on a thread that you dont have knowledge about, instead focus on threads that certainly you know what you will post. Avoid also posting or spamming.

The first is thing to do is to have your mind far off gaining merits, make facilitating posts in the forum, read and understand the sticky/pinned posts in threads and also get yourself familiarized with the forums rules and regulations, then boom! you'll see yourself gaining merits even without knowing!

Earning merit is not child's play dude, you got to work harder, think better, spread your discussion above 2 or 3 areas, with reasonable contributions, the moderator's eye are really everywhere for us to get our proper recommendation. It was even easier before 2018 to get merit and new rank, but now it is more demanding. Many people ignored posting during the bear market and now that the market is improving they are fighting for merits, hmmm. It can't work that way. Those who kept the post on are here.

My advice would not be anything different. If you are looking to rank up you need both activity and merit. While gaining enough merits to rank up may be difficult for some users it is not impossible.

What you should do is go through other sections of the forum and seek out threads that need a proper reply or information. Some merit sources may appreciate that and merit you.

Post in threads where you feel something needs to be added and not just because you want to post. Don't be obsessed with merits though. It can drive you nuts if you look at the numbers too much.

I checked your posts and I did not found any of them that deserve one single merit. Posts in bounty thread reporting link, are in the rank of spam. it is not read by managers either and especially not old high ranked members or merit sources. When you post in other section than bounty, it's mostly part of some pointless discussion on useless mega threads, which also no one reads or is interested in. These threads serve to fulfil post quota for signature campaigns.
You need to stop with posting just to write something here, try to be active in discussion and talk with other members here. As @Bttzed03 says, find something that is close to your personal interests and find topics about it, then discuss there, be constructive. It can be gambling, poker or whatever.

You are registered here Feb. 2018 not "since 2017", and you are offline from 27.November 2018 until 20. August 2020, then when you come again, just reposted one of your post two years old. Which is, by the way, the only article from Steemit.

you seem to consider us idiots so you're copy/paste some old news for us, you still expect someone to praise you for it. this is the digital age and Bitcointalk with people here is one of the most advanced. You can't sell us garbage here.

edit: This topic probably belongs to the Meta section

I checked first two pages of your post history and it's clear that you mainly posts on altcoin related boards.

Do you think your posts deserve merit/s? Then submit it at @CryptopreneurBrainboss merit giveaway thread (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/no-rank-barrier-100-smerit-monthly-giveaway-concentrating-on-alt-subboard-5210222) He's one of the few high rank members who merit altcoin related topics. Don't forget to read the rules he set though.

My personal suggestion for you is to explore/read other parts of the forum. It's not that altcoin boards are bad, it's just that most merit sources rarely visits them because it's a spamfest.

Do you have any other interest? Your twitter profile says you're a poker guy. There's the gambling board in case you want to discuss with other poker players.

By the way, this topic doesn't belong to altcoin board. Perhaps it's better suited for Off-Topic.
