I use Teamviewer as well on a win 8 rig. It works just as well as the rig does really. Sometimes its slow to load, but as said, I'm pretty sure it's just the rig and not the remote desktop program. Disappointing that you can't find a way to just remote connect via a monitor/keyboard though.

And in the end using another computer as a client may not end up working.
I have tried chrome RDC, Logmein in , and ultra vnc and I dunno why but my rig will BSOD if I mine and remote access at the same time. I can do one or the other but not both. I even tried turning the intensity down on the card the monitor uses and it still BSODs.
So I dunno but if I can't figure it out I guess it's back to trying to find a decent non line of site KVM.

Also, I was just pointing out there were actually two right solutions (and some even cheaper than the chromebook were even available for terminals).

Yeah but what you were asking was "how to control a Win 8 rig from another room". We gave you the appropriate answer, which was also the most cost-effective solution. We're goal-oriented not process-oriented here.
Yea but you should at least read the first post in a thread. Even if just going off the title you should think why would anyone want to use a wireless KVM to control a computer with another computer? And for what I was asking a wireless KVM / VGA extender is the right solution? The only reason I chose to use another computer was because I could get the Chromebook for the same price and use it for other things.
But either way I thank everyone for the suggestions and apologize if I was being a d***.
I think you were clear from the very beginning, if any doubts, post #7 was very specific.

What about RDP, LogMeIn or Team Viewer?
I second the LogMeIn recommendation. Free and nice and easy to setup, accessible from anywhere in the world and will even let you wake on lan if it's configured.

That's what I ended up having to do though. I ended up just buying a cheap laptop to use as a client.
I bought a Chromebook and hooking it up to my monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Then I use logmein or ChromeRDC.
The price of a decent non line of site VGA extender or wireless KVM is as much or almost as much as a Chromebok. And I can use the Chrmebook for more and now that I am playing with it the Chrome OS is actually really cool.
I think the reason you ended up doing what you did, though, is because like many of us said--what you were trying to accomplish is much easier accomplished by getting a 2nd "terminal" to remote to the other machine from. So regardless of what you were asking, you were getting solutions (even if they weren't the one you wanted--which turned out not to be the way to go anyway) from members. GLad you got something working for yourself, though.

There are some KVMs on the market which sends the signal over a standard ethernet connection.
You can place the KVM in the room where your rig is and then you need only a network connection to it. could be wireless of cause.
I think solutions like TeamView, RDP, VNC or similar products would not fit you because you loose to much speed. As far as I understood you like to work on the rig like sitting in front of it. So the wireless KVM is a choice or the other wirless alternatives already given in the thread.

You can game remotely via RDP on Server 2008+ terminal servers...there is no lag, especially if you are on the same subnet/network. So saying RDP or VNC wouldn't work is silly...TV would have some slight overhead
I read through the OP as well as his responses, and I am not seeing any place where he said he was concerned with lag. He just said he wants to be able to control it. Maybe I missed it....
If he isnt worried about lag then a free solution like TV would be better than dropping money on a wireless KVM.
Yeah, I was just refuting the other person's claims that VNC/RDP would not work. If he is concerned about lag, I was saying he could go that route. I even have some old HP thin clients with Windows XP Embedded if all you need is a jump point (something to RDP from to the Win8 rig). PM me if you are interested, as I have a slew of old thin clients.

I have both Windows machines and BAMT machines, easiest solution is Putty for your BAMT units, and Teamviewer for your Windows box. There is an iPhone (and I assume Android version) of Teamviewer that you can use to control your Windows box with, even on the go. And for your BAMT boxes, install Putty on your Windows box as well, Teamviewer into it from anywhere, and then putty into BAMT from there. I do it all the time without a hitch. Heck, I even have an SSH app on my iPhone that when I am at home I dont even need to go into Windows to access my BAMT units, just do it right from my phone (I have them set to static IP's of course).

You could always use WiDi in combination with a wireless keyboard/mouse. The best solution for this IMO is a thin client station and just RDP/Teamviewer/VNC over to the other machine from the thin client. There is no real "cheap" solution for what you are asking, unless you have another PC kicking around that can act as the "thin client."

I will look this up. It does look like some of the ones I have saw before that only work line of sight.
