I think the situation before the hype is almost the same with today's condition, before the hype the market still full with whales, the pump and dump group were scattered in every where, the ICO reputation was a little bit better before the hype, many good project appeared, the only different was it's easier to earn bitcoin before the hype, because before the hype crypto not too famous yet

I think before 2017 everything went the same, but by the end of 2017 everything was very visible with the bubbles happening.

Bitcoin in 2017 and below is the greatest day of it. Because its price reaches up to 70,000USD I think and many users made a huge income in that. In this forum, even you are a jr. Member, you can make money uo 1,000USD without investing. I hope bitcoin reached this far again.

This Is Promissing Project
maybe compared to now, ICO before 2017 was not much and still very little. But the ICO is very convincing, even the average success. Very different from the year after 2017. New ICOs appeared, but there was very little convincing, even many fraudsters behind the ICO. I got disgusted to follow him, and it was very annoying ...

Leave no FUD unchallenged
Before the hype?  I think you'd probably have to go back to a period before BTC achieved parity with the dollar for that.  I've been around since late 2013 and there was already plenty of hype then.

Instead of ICO, it was just regular altcoins promising the world but delivering substantially less.  They were mostly still pump'n'dumps, just fewer in number.  But at least you knew what you were getting before you bought it because there was an actual blockchain to go look at.  None of this "give me money for my half-baked idea" BS that seems so ubiquitous now.  I don't think ICO has ever had a "good" image, heh.

People still thought Gox was a great place to do business.  Most of the big exchanges hadn't been hacked yet.  Few had really been given a clear opportunity to learn the lesson that you shouldn't leave your entire crypto wealth in the hands of total strangers on the internet, so in hindsight it was kind of inevitable that some of them would have to find out the hard way.  Strange that some people still don't "get it" even today.

Was the market easy to manipulate?
Yes, it was. Refer to Bitcoin's 2013 bubble to know how easily the market could be manipulated back then (as it is mostly the case with small markets).

pump and dumps were more common?
I can answer this with a big fat YES. When I first joined a cryptocurrencies exchange, spam rooms were full of Telegram pump&dump groups' invitations.

Were people more into ICO's? the ICO image was better than it is today?
No, they weren't as it is the case now (or even in 2017). Bitcoin had the lion's share when it came to interest. And no, ICO image wasn't much better than it is now.

I would like to add another thing:
Scams and too good to be true projects were huge. HYIPs and Cloud Mining were much more popular than they are now.

I spoke with few friends recently about the hype that the crypto market received at the end of 2017.
I wonder how was it before 2017.

When I got into Crypto 2014 when BTC was around $300-400 . But i can't really tell if the market manipulation now is worst that before.
The only thing I know for such is that their was no much altcoins them, and the ones that were into existence them where doing pretty fine compared to this present days, make money easily on cryptocurrency them compare to now.

Cryptocurrency pre year 2017 rush was far better than we have it nowadays. The rush as brought with it a lot of scam. It is quite unfortunate that you can hardly trust any ICO at a glance. Like over eighty percent of ICOs and Airdrops are now scams. Things have really changed and so many projects have collapsed.

I've been using Bitcoin regularly since 2012 and certain aspects of the community back then were a lot more fun.
Here on the forum, there was less spam and people were coming up with all these cool projects etc.
Felt more like a tight knit community back then.

I mean you still have that a little bit now, but to a lesser extent.

The whole ICO craze was also pretty much unheard of back then, so a lot less scamming going on in that area.
Not that there wasn't any scamming though, the amount of money lost through this forum is pretty staggering.

Just go and check out some of the older loan threads, some pretty funny and sad stories to be found.

Anyone remember Dank Bank for example? Tongue

Side-note: I know you want to hear about the market back then, but you can just go look at chart for that. I think there's already enough focus on that aspect of Bitcoin, just felt like talking about some other stuff.

Was the market easy to manipulate?
Are you saying now it isn't easy to manipulate? But I think it's been the same way as it was a few years ago. It's debatable, though, since nowadays financial institutions are more interested in jumping into the bitcoin badwagon just so they can manipulate the market (see ETF).

pump and dumps were more common?
If you're referring to the amount of obvious pump and dump coins, the amount was significantly smaller back in the day.

Were people more into ICO's? the ICO image was better than it is today?
I think ICOs had a surge in popularity in the second half of 2017, people were more interested in Bitcoin than any other upcoming project, though they still had a following.

I joined bitcoin before 2017.
I think 2017 is the worst year for bitcoin, in 2016 I saw that the crypto market was very good, unlike at the moment.
During 2017 until now it was very difficult to make a small profit, I hope the market will return to the same as in 2016 yesterday.

I entered the market in mid 2016 and bought my bitcoin for 570$. I never realised that it will grow this much the next year and after few months sold most of it to cover my trip expenses.

When that was the time that I was so intensely hype and would join the bull run. But I was too late when I got the money then bought Bitcoin and it was already going down.

So anyway, I applied as a merit source :)

I was into the market in the year 2015 and the price I got into was around 600USD/BTC. I would say the number of new users who are entering the market  obviously increased but then the popularity of different coins was much lower. Bitcoin and crypto still have a cultish following and thus its difficult to make a person understand that these are legitimate technologies that can overthrow the banking system.

It was the same in my opinion.

pump and dumps were more common?
Small pumps and dumps are always happening if you close watch the minute-to-minute price changes. Bigger pumps were not common.

I was not into ICOs at that time and neither am I today. I prefer to keep bitcoin as my bigger stash and have some altcoins worthy enough as well. If I feel any ICO coin is worth getting into I would buy them when the hit the exchange.
