p.s. my BM address is now in my profile. Shame I can't change my vote  Smiley

After generating the address it is ready to accept messages rightaway? Or do I need to enable it? It is instant? I didn't receive any message yet.

Edit: Eid did you receive my message?

I'd like to use this but getting (some of) my friends/family to is another matter. Will download and have a look though. Thanks
Bitmessage, privacy and Cryptocurrencies walk together: for us, cryptocurrencies users, it's something natural, but for the people who are still out of these novelties, it's something "weird and complicated"
This is true. I have shown Bitcoin to many of my colleagues and they think it is really complex or difficult to understand. I aim for personal privacy, but everyone around me comes back with the same responce; "What?"

I have an Aussie friend who hadn't heard about the NSA. Be lived in the same country a year ahead of the news being realeased, and stayed through it, but not once did he actually hear about it.

I have been introducing Bitmessage to all my friends (and even clients) but only a few has shown any interest at all for it... but, guess what, I've also introduced bitcoin to all of them, and it has been the same... Bitmessage, privacy and Cryptocurrencies walk together: for us, cryptocurrencies users, it's something natural, but for the people who are still out of these novelties, it's something "weird and complicated"

regular people don't have any use of bitmessage, what would they need secrecy for?
who would they talk to as none of their friends (except you I guess Cheesy) are using bitmessage

I disagree; most people value privacy. It's why we put curtains on our windows.

Very true. Privacy is a human necessity. And it is very convenient for Google inc. USA inc. Bankers inc. etc that this false idea that "only criminals need privacy" is dominant.

The fact is that people have been conditioned to give up their privacy and become online exibitionists.

And here we are now in an Orwellian world, where people simply hand their rights away on a plate. Rights that, to be conquered, once have demanded the fight and the lives of many of our past heroes.

I guess one mans privacy is another mans secrecy.. conditioned indeed. I only hope with enough exposure and education, more people will begin to wake up and see what they have lost.

I have now sent a successful test message. I'll do my best to sell this to my friends.

Yes that sounds about right. Many of the people I know just don't see any point in using encryption for messaging and probably think of me as a paranoid nut (I may well be, but that's irrelevant)  Grin

I do think things are changing though as it's becoming increasingly obvious that online privacy without a little effort is a delusion.

I have installed bitmessage and sent a test message, but it is stuck on "waiting for their encryption key" for the last few minutes.

Keep up the good work!

General idea is really awesome but I wonder if this software is really safe. I mean if you can be sure that nobody will intercept your messages. Or there is no some backdoor to the system.

I am no expert, but I think the idea with Bitmessage is that the user does not need to rely upon centralised message services (like gmail, for example, who are known to scan our messages to deliver information to our corrupt governments). As to privacy concerns, best best best option is to ally the decentralised message service of Bitmessage with GPG, and you're very protected Wink

Quote
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitmessage
Bitmessage is a decentralized, encrypted, peer-to-peer, trustless communications protocol that can be used by one person to send encrypted messages to another person, or to multiple subscribers. Bitmessage encrypts each users' message inbox using strong encryption and replicates it inside its P2P network mixing it with inboxes of other users in order to conceal user's identity, prevent eavesdropping and protect the network from any control. The Bitmessage communication protocol avoids sender-spoofing through strong authentication, and hides metadata from wiretapping systems.

The idea is to take back our privacy. Enough of disrespects to our rights.

You can send messages to me if you'd like to (address at signature)

Thank you.

No, I just heard that here. What is that like an email or chat?
Yeah it is a decentralized communications protocol using which you can send encrypted messages to a group or a person.
