I think they should thread really carefully with this. They block bitcoin related apps in App Store and then they go and do this.

I am an Apple fan and have some apple products but this..... Well. Not sure...

I've predicted for some time that if Bitcoin tries to compete in the space where end-users make small-ish transactions, it will be a catastrophic failure.

Bitcoin will never be able to compete with large and highly capitalized players on usability, polish, or end-user security (e.g., stolen wallets.)  Trying to do so will bloat the solution toward centralization which will destroy it's credibility as a reserve medium as well.

Bitcoin had a window of opportunity to be a 'free' currency used as a scaffold upon which other 'free' solutions could be built, but that window is either rapidly closing or has already closed in my opinion.  (By 'free', I mean free of central authority of course.)

The best hope now is on the marketing plane.  If Bitcoin can still be marketed as a credible non-aligned solution and obtain marketshare for the probably minor segment of people for whom that is important, then it could have another pop, but I expect that it will be transient and I'll use the opportunity to pull some money out.

Anyway who cares about all those countless amazoncoins, applecoins, whatevercoins. It is nothing more than marketing BS.  Bitcoin cloned shitcoins have more merit than those.

Even if they fail with their iMoney thing. It will definetly mean that BTC apps wont come to Apple products in the near term.

Thats not a desaster. But it certainly isnt good news either.

When I first read the article I thought it sounded more like Google Wallet than Bitcoin but then I realized it isn't even as good as Google Wallet. Basically you can buy apps, music, and Apple products.  Whoopie!  Glad I have Android, all the iOS users need to stop fighting Apple and realize they're only going to continue to give you what they think you need, not what you think you need.  Open source > proprietary crap.  Bitcoin users should understand this better than the average person.

Hopefully Apple will not muscle its way into the cryptocurrency arena.  Who can fight Apple Sad

They arn't. This isn't a true cryptocurrency, just a fancier version of AmazonCoin which is also not a crypto-currency either. They are just proprietary payment systems riding on the veneer of Bitcoin, which is both bogus and sad.

The fact that Apple is both creating their own "currency" and denying Bitcoin apps is pretty telling that they just can't stand any format they don't have an iron grip on just like Sony.

Prob is a lot of people won't understand the difference

This is so correct it frightening.

You guys know, that bill gates pumped a bunch of money into apple, years ago, to keep them alive, to prevent Microsoft having a monopoly? Apple really isn't that big of a threat. M$ is the real threat Wink

I'm not that worried... Not everyone likes/uses Apple, I don't like/use Apple. So basically only those that use Apple will and can use it. Money is supposed to be globally exchangeable and if it's limited to those that are using Apple products then it's not going to be accepted as actual currency.

AmazonCoins, Imoney, it's just the next evolution of the giftcard. People screaming new proprietary money, really?

Giftcards are traded for FIAT and can only be used at one place. This seems to be the next evolution in in-store credit.

Shit, I'd rather they switch to fake coins, might get more use out of them in the long term.

dont think it will be the case. whatever apple is planning, its not like amazoncoin.

Doesn't have to be. It could just be Apple's version of the evolution of giftcards. Buy apps in the store, buy music on Itunes, they could even pay by swiping your phone for small purchases like coffee @ Starbucks if they ever implement NFC.

Since Apple's giftcards are already pegged to Fiat and people buy stuff with them daily (apps/music) they already have perceived value. Change the name, call it a coin, and they've simply changed the face of their money printing machine.

boycott anything apple, slam people hard when you see them using shitty apple gadgets, make sure they know they are paying for over priced chav crap. Have been doing this for years. Apple are more disgusting than MS. They are on a downward spiral anyway give it 5 years and they will be 50% down on where they are now.
