That confirms it; theymos apparently thinks it's funny to joke about a disease outbreak that (by my guesstimate) will probably directly kill at least a million people

Roll Eyes If you choose to see-as-evil acts which were clearly done in the spirit of fun & good faith, then you're creating demons for your personal living hell...

There is a rare worldwide shared cultural experience going on in the form of the pandemic and the resulting unprecedented social distancing policies. It's similar to a world war in terms of its widespread cultural significance. So this little game came to my mind to connect with it. As with several past bitcointalk.org April Fools things, it's more of a new/weird/fun way for people to interact with the forum and generate discussion, not a joke as such. Certainly it wasn't meant to somehow poke fun at the many real tragedies created by the coronavirus situation; it was meant to connect with the huge thing dominating the minds/lives of basically everyone on Earth.

I felt what you were trying to do.

But With my wife and my wifes 4 cousins already sick And with one of them on a ventilator it felt saddening to me.

I do feel better having deleted the two threads 🧵 with 1000 plus posts on them.

I won’t be doing any others as multiple people have asked me to keep the alt coin mining threads 🧵 and the other difficulty threads.

I also realized that my actions of deleting my self modded threads 🧵 may be like a bunch of morons not cooperating with the lockdowns. so I will leave the other threads up.

wishing all of you luck in your lives with corona-v.

I missed the 2018 prank, registered only four days too late for that one.  I recall folks were still talking about it, though.  Last year's KYC thread and bitcointalk pencils for merit exchange was a real fun one.

I'm over this one, and can't wait for it to end.  In all honesty, I was over it last night (when it was still March for me.)  The infection is making hard to read posts, and although it was mildly humorous at first it's not stacking up to the previous pranks.

One of the best things about practical jokes is that they distract us from the stresses of life, and add a little spice to the mundane.  This joke seems to be provoking the concerns of those of us who have family or friends that have been affected by Covid-19.  And even those of us who haven't been directly affected, many have employment and financial concerns as a result.  Our lives have been turned upside down, and one of my favorite escapes is now infected.

Can we usher in April 2nd a little early this year?

I mean, I think one of your favorite escapes from reality was already infected. I'm mostly a user of P&S, which could skew this, but I THINK 95 percent of all posts in that section have been about the Coronavirus, responses to the coronavirus from the Fed, Congress, Trump, etc. While this may have been a bit of an escape from reality, I don't think it was doing that much.

All that was being done here from Theymos was to try to teach people about social distancing. Don't think there's anything wrong with that. Trying to flatten the curve here through education.

I thought only I could infect people, it is not fair! You ruined my five-minutes of glory.
Social distancing, avoid crowded places, stay away from places where you can get the virus easily, if you are infected and asked to stay at home don't listen to the silent voice in your head telling you to explore every inch in your town and wash your hands Grin

It is very hard to read this. I've tried today to read something on the forum several times, but I'm just annoyed by the strain on my eyes. hope this ends soon.
I understand that things about the virus are currently trending but this is the worst April Fools I've seen.

Apparently it's a selective virus.  Foxpup and khaled0111 are infected, so far everyone else in this thread is safe symptom free.

Queue the threads on moderation favoritism...   Undecided

Maybe we are supposed to figure out how it spreads?  Do you need to post in a thread of an infected person?

Need little quote  Wink I believe I have some common system and feels its spreading now  Grin

Nice "inspect element" trolling. Kudos!

I found a medicine Smiley just log out to make the text clear.

This text virus is most likely linked with user session/login time so guests and private windows are not affected.

I understand the nervous reaction of some users (phillipma... hope all is good) but others are way too thin skinned for a public forum.
Overall I got to say... pretty inventive text glitching algo!

LOL at the forum trolls (foxpup, suchmoon, ibminer, etc) being so sensitive to an April fools joke which also has some educational value. Some people can only see things as negative no matter the intent or value. It is them that are the true virus to this community.

Amen.  I fully agree with you.

Fuck those fucking fruitloops.

Imagine how fun the company christmas party is

And you my good sir just got my last merit point!! <3 Good one.

BTW this virus can kill crypto Shocked I hope that this is fake news...

Oh no, theymos just posted in this thread where there are infected people. Theymos have a higher chance to get infected by other forum members. Is there something that I don't know, maybe you have a vaccine already and corona virus won't infect anymore. Use ANTI-VIRUS LIKE AVAST, AVG, KASPERSKY TO SCAN AND REMOVE CORONA VIRUS.

What the hell is going on with the forum and the text?
Coronavirus infected the Internet too. BitcoinTalk has the most casualties until now, stay home and wash your hands, if you use your computer, then download a hydro alcoholic solution picture and move the mouse cursor in it for 20 sec to make sure everything is OK  Roll Eyes

I understand that for many it will be a very difficult decision because they are all-time logged in here but sometimes we have to do difficult things for the general good.

Edit: to continue with theymos' post above, personally I am only joking (today) about washing hands, keeping distance with others. In no way I, or people like me, is/are underestimate the disease which caused until now 40k deaths. We are just pissed off with confinement and try to have fun, better than getting a depression!
