Well I use facebook I don't really like it
But well everyone else uses it and to be honest I haven't seen another service that can acquire the traction necessary to do a full shift
Basically need to drag myself + all friends to a new service so need a superior system.

Yes, there is a significant part of the Bitcoin community that is against FB. Reason is that they are above-average intelligent and value privacy.

Amen. Facebook is on the axis of evil, along with Paypal and the NSA.

Most of BTC hardcore users are tech loving people and they don't like hanging out in the social sites too much, at least that's my guess. Even I don't like to hang out that much.

Before to post my comment I want to say that I'm not a regular user of Facebook like posting comments photos etc but honestly I'm not against anyone have an account on this Facebook. Privacy is a big issue for all of us and as far as I can understand if Facebook or someone else spy the people who have an account, what he/she/they spy is what anyone post.
Bitcoin for me is an asset, an asset that can be the next generation way of payment. Since for me is an asset and I.m not posting on Facebook anything about my assets then nobody is able to know if I'm engage somehow with Bitcoin or other Digital Currencies.
But Yes I like to see groups and communities on Facebook posting let's say more educational material and news from around the world that have to do with Bitcoins and Digital Currencies.

Guess what, these companies are not very popular among Bitcoiners either. (I'd order it in descending popularity: Google, Microsoft, Apple.)

However the big difference between FB and these companies is that FB is a single service which only purpose is to share (pointless) information, while the other companies offer a variety of products and services. All value of FB derives from information about its users - that's not true for Google, Microsoft, or Apple. So collecting these data is an integral part of FB.

You can still use products from Google, Microsoft, or Apple and safeguard your privacy if you take the appropriate precautions. Trying to do that for FB makes using their "service" pretty absurd.

Of course you can still use a computer without ever being involved with these companies... but that seems to be beyond your imagination... Roll Eyes

ya.ya.yo!

FB sole purpose is not to share pointless information, it is to connect people to other people.(Yes I realize they share tons of information, but then don't put so much information on Facebook)

Facebook knows next to nothing about me, it is extremely easy to create an account just like you would for Google that is not a real account, or a fake name(or it used to be I haven't tried forever)  As a matter of Fact Apple is probably the hardest to create a fake apple ID and they want just as much information if not more.

I am well aware you can use a computer without using any of these, but thank you for trying to take a cheap shot at me.  For the majority of users on here, I am willing to bet around 80% are using MAC/WINDOWS at the very least.  Which means they are using some of the technologies.

Why are people so against Facebook?  They aren't the only group/people that want your information.

If you hate Facebook you must also hate:

Google
Apple
Microsoft

Which means you probably don't use a computer at all either right?

... and don't forget the Internet and Tor were developed by the government.

Bitcoiners are very particular about privacy, so I doubt that a lot actually use Facebook.

I'm not as particular about privacy, but I barely even use Facebook myself. Just to keep in touch with friends that I don't live close to or see every day.

I would say Bitcoiners "think" they are careful about privacy.  If you use Google, Apple, or Microsoft you don't care too much about your privacy.

Yes... I think if u dont use FB for privacy and use Google, then there is no one more dumb than u r.

I think the really dumb people are those who don't know different types of information that Facebook and Google collect and what steps are required to mitigate and control what you choose to give out about yourself. As another poster has pointed out you cannot use Facebook effectively without giving out real information about yourself (unless you were some kind of scammer or predator with a fake identity).

Koobface? Yeah, I have an account. I don't like to reveal too much on it, though. Certainly not my affiliations and hobbies. I use it primarily to locate old friends.

Most bitcoiners like myself are so used to the word anonymity and so facebook kind of doesn't fit into that

Guys? Why? You are missing half you life if you do not have facebook. So im guessing that you do not have any friends too?

If you leave Facebook and all your friends abandon you for it then you have no friends.

Just for the record: I've never used Facebook.

I have also NEVER been on Facebook. I also value my privacy and am not driven by "group mentality" irrational social protocols.
Have never been on Facebook and probably never will, i value my privacy too much.
