Most people think that house cats are useless, but I know that they can relieve stress (scientists proved it). Another question is taking care of them. As I've been living with cats the whole life, I can say that it is important to give them meds /supplies to prevent different diseases or other health problems. But it should be mentioned that online pharmacies have already made this process really easier (I use Pet Express for this purpose). Also it is necessary to choose a good food for them. In general, cats are associated with warmth and calmness. But it's only my opinion.

Other than having narcissistic image of themselves plastered all over the net.... Undecided

Are we just a free meal ticket for house cats? I'd imagine lions and tigers would ripped them to shreds for being slackers....

How is it house cats manage to convince everyone they're smart when they're so hard to train.

Aren't house cats taking advantage of persons suffering from emotional instability?  Huh

Seems like a nice Topic to drop a detailed reply..

To start with, every living creature on this planet has equal freedom to survive and so does Cat. Whether it's found on the street or it's your pet, you should love them without expecting anything in return..

Now i would like to answer this in a much detailed manner as per your Topic/Post;

1.) Are we just a free meal ticket for house cats?
One should not consider this like a Trade System, you give them food and you expect something in return from them..
This is quite a wrong way to think about this..

Also, cats are not taking advantage of persons suffering from emotional instability as you said, there is nothing bad in giving them some left-out food that you would be throwing it away as a waste on a dustbin at the end-of-the-day.
Cats didn't asked you to cook some special food for them and serve it on a tablet, did they?
They are good with the left-out food as well, they won't complaint to you unlike a human being (that i need so and so food specifically for breakfast, lunch etc.) Tongue

Whether Cat or any other pet, we like them because they make us feel happy and relaxed during various occasions/situations, there is nothing more to expect from them.. they are just good as they are, without an Attitude/Ego problem..

2.) How is it house cats manage to convince everyone they're smart when they're so hard to train.
I haven't seen them doing so, unless cats can speak like human and you understood that this is what they mean or may-be you read this out with their facial expression itself.. Tongue
Why do you even want to train them? Aren't you happy with the cat as they are?
If NO, then you shouldn't have purchased a cat at first place..
Training a pet is good, but forcing a pet to get trained is bad.. every human being doesn't posses the same skill-set and so does every cat doesn't have the same skills..

That been said, mostly everything has pros and cons, when you own a pet you need to take a good care of your house including regular cleaning and all those usual things..

Last but not the least, if you start to read on the internet or if you are aware about real life scenarios, there are many instances where a cat has proved it's smartness and acted as a life saver too..
I will drop few references to a couple of them as below;

Top 10 Times Cats Saved Lives
https://www.toptenz.net/top-10-times-cats-saved-lives.php

There are many cases like this where a Cat proved to be worth, you can search on internet else you may even consider to ask some of your friends who might have witnessed such incidents live sometime during their lifespan..

So do you think a cat was actually trained by someone for saving a life?

Also the below article, this might be true as well, who knows;
10 Scientific Benefits of Being a Cat Owner
http://mentalfloss.com/article/51154/10-scientific-benefits-being-cat-owner

To conclude, never underestimate the worthiness of anyone regardless of whether it's a human being, animal, bird etc.

Also no offence here, this is just my personal view on this.. it's a forum for discussion and hence this was my view... now let's hear it from others..

Enjoy everyone..  Smiley

PS: Oops the reply went little lengthy i guess, kindly excuse me for that.

Cat is the best alarm  Cheesy they always wake you up when sun rises with their annoying meow until you literally wake up.

They also a habitual creature, they really stick on schedule, which means you will be discipline for things like never going home late, and cooking/eating time.

Cat also really like cleanliness, and you will always cleaning your house, otherwise it will be cats hair everywhere.

I think cats are only for people who like order.

If you have rats, than useful.

Otherwise they will just scratch you.

Rats gotta have some good use besides keeping the cats entertained so they don't scratch you.   Cheesy

In some researches it was proven that dogs are really connected with their owners, follow them always, protect them etc.
It was proven that cats seek more comfort, food, shelter etc.

They aren't loyal...they'll go to whoever is feeding them unlike other pets.
Well there are ways to even train cats. Obviously they won't be nearly trained as a dog could be, but still.
Also yeah, do you not like petting a cute little kitten?

Having a cat lowers suicide rates by 70%.  You very rarely hear of people who leave behind cats without anyone to take care of them.
This is a good thing to consider. Although I think that the actual percentage here is made up.

Cats are very smart animals with a lot of senses. I think cats can even be a baby sitters too, but then cats need good training before  Grin Not all cats are the same, smart cats are rarely available  Wink

Very useful for target practice out in the woods.

1. Raise cats from kittens.
2. Make sure they are healthy and well exercised.
3. When in their prime, usually about 2 yo, take them, one at a time, out into the woods.
4. Take two guns with you - a harmless but painful bb gun, and your regular hunting gun.
5. Get the cat moving with the bb gun - you need to show him you are serious.
6. Once he gets moving - might take a little, because up to now he has considered you a friend - great moving target. The hunt is on.

Indoor cats are useless, I have to say. Indoor and outdoor cats are nice to have as they explore the outdoors and fetch you mice (ugh). Also their hairs don't get everywhere as they are outside for most of the time.

Maybe.. They hunt rats right?

Hardly.  I used to own a cat years ago, it would catch mice out in the field, and bring them in the house to play with them. Nothing like waking up to a squeaking mouse in the middle of the night. Every once in a while he would choose to decapitate them and leave the head next to the body right outside my bedroom door.  Little bastard!

Most houses don't have rats.   Wink

Cats are useful for stress relief.  You pet them, they purr, stress goes away.
