Thug for life!
this may include anything ranging from putting in some extra hours without pay, help to finish work not in your job description, etc.

let's assume this is a white collar office job.

Depends if I think my job is on the line, or if it's the type of employer that actually rewards its employees (bonuses, etc). There's too many conditions possible here. I've had some truly horrible bosses and worked for some shit companies in my time..... and in those cases, certainly not.

I'm willing to go above and beyond in my personal projects and in subjects that matter to me.

If my work conflict with that, then the work will be sacrified first.

Yes I am. Going above and beyond is what gets you noticed, and lets you receive larger raises and promotions and be able to move up the corporate ladder.

I flip burgers like nobody's business - I even wear a blue collar!
LOL. I am glad that you can earn your $7.25 really well by flipping burgers.

I take it that you are not a high performer. Any high performer will likely never have to work at a job like this, and if he did not for very long.

If I'm passionate about the work I'm doing, of course.
Were you talking about the real white collar, cause I automatically thought about the series?

I once went as far as to vacuum the parking lot and polish the grease bucket at a restaurant I once was employed, eventually becoming regional manager of three of the franchise. Motive? To hopefully fuck its current manager by impressing her. It worked!

This was the parking lot:

Need a campaign manager? PM me
I do not mind doing that, as I waste most of my day surfing anyway. So there is that guilty feeling at the back.

A couple of times I have needed to get in on the weekend, do not mind it.

It depends of the company management first, if they are fair and honest toward employers, if this extra hours will benefit both company and myself, if other employers will also support this and stay longer etc.

Its always good to be competent and more productive than your cohorts. Rarely, will you receive any thanks or benefits.

Suckholing to get ahead is just *wrong* .

Nah, stick it to the man if they force you to work longer than your contract states! No way they are able to can you for doing what your contract says. They can't treat you like some cheap dirt! Haha, man, speak up for yourselves!

The people that go beyon and above in the work are the ones that get the most workload, but the ones that go ahead in the enterprise are those who are good to give the impression they are working and flatter the bosses everytime. Or people that have high rank contacts. Or hot women in general.

Even if you are recognized, you workload will incread 2x by each x more you will get, so the ROI will become lesser and leser, until the work sucks your entire life.

I only go above and beyond when working to myself or in things that matters to me, because the reward I get is pretty much the same any way.

Its pretty much expected at major banks. If you don't do it, someone younger and hungrier for advancement will.

Its also an unspoken rule in the New york offices, that the juniors will not leave for the day unless they see their seniors leave.

Is it really a NYC thing? Huh, never knew about that. Does it apply to all offices or just certain professions? Reminds me a bit of the office seen in "Mad Men" if you ask me Cheesy

ha everyone would regret being my junior the amount of times iv fallen asleep at work... that said its nice being self employed Cheesy fall asleep at work when ever you want.

Yes, the economy is very dire still and you may lose your job if you're not willing to go above and beyond! It's not like in the good old 70s... Not only the music has changed (don't you miss David Bowie, as well?) It's also the working conditions that have changed!

Depends, if i see it as helping myself or humanity (in my vision of humanity) then yes im willing to put in "extra".

If not then its just wasted time and you are being scammed by employer Smiley
90% of jobs are not contributing to humanity.
