I just bought 71 shares of ASICminer on BTC-TC. This is my first time investing in anything using bitcoin (up till now I was a hoarder). Risks aside, the value proposition just seems really good.

I have two questions.

1) Am I crazy? It just seems too good to be true. Maybe i just trust friendcat too much? Why is the yield sitting on 50-60% annually and yet the price doesn't move upwards much?

2) Am I in time to get the dividends tonight?

First off, 71 shares, damn, you loaded!

1. I don't think you are crazy, it should be all good:D

2. no idea, sorry Sad

haha...loaded? no...just lucky...i bought my stash back in august 2012. Never thought BTC/USD would get this high this quick. Been sitting on my stash too long and i thought hey why not invest some of it and get a nice return? I've done a little research and the only 2 stocks I feel confident enough to touch are ASICminer and S.Dice. But I like the mining angle a lot more than the gambling angle and seeing how well friedcat communicates here and builds so much trust was what pushed me over the edge

1. You are. But we all are Smiley 50-60% annual is good, but it only works if the high dividends stay the way they are. And you have to consider that you will not necessarily be able to sell your shares back at the price you bought them, so in the worst case (share price -> 0), you'll need 100% yield to even start making a profit.

2. Yes

Dividends need to be high for the stock price to move upwards -- simply because it is an unregulated exchange dealing with people's anonymous hard earned cash.  The reward has to match the risk, and I think the 60% dividends reflect that.  The layers of security are paper thin, so you pretty much answered question 1 on your own.

If those are pass-through shares, then yeah, you're in time I think.

The suspense is killing me. Come on kitty, I'm supposed to be pretending to work right now.

I'm supposed to hand up a research paper for uni in 2 days that I've been working on since February. The last two months since I discovered AM have been diabolical for my study habits.

Smiguel's charts show that BTC guild used to be a significant portion of asicminer hashing. What was that arrangement and why did it go down to zero this past week?

ASICMINER started out mining for pools, partially for accountability/audit-ability. Pools take a percentage cut of the rewards, so Friedcat began moving hashing power away from pools and started doing more solo mining (basically mining in a personal pool.)

What time usually are the dividends dished out at?

Last 3 weeks were about 2.45pm, 3.15pm & 1.30pm UTC.

Looks like there is a correlation between dividends proximity and unability to grasp irony.
