If so, you really deserve to be encouraged. Of course, as a cryptocurrency enthusiast, I am sorry, I will only use JAVA to output "helloworld", which can't help you at the technical level. But I think you are a real hero. At least when everyone abandons it, you don't retreat but stick to it.

Hello all!

I’ll be honest with you… Unfortunately, Ascension coin did not get much attention from users. This is understandable: the current state of crypto is not as good as it used to be even a year ago and ASN currently does not have a ‘killer feature’ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer_feature) or any hype. Direct messages to previous users did not receive much traction either. Also, the two other people that initially joined the team lost interest and moved on. So it is just me now…

But this does not stop me to continue work on this coin. I believe that its time will come. But it needs to have something that is useful / unique. Just being ‘another altcoin’ is not enough.
I do have one interesting feature in mind, but implementing it takes time. I don’t even have an ETA on it currently, but it is definitely measured in months.

Once we have something, then it’s ‘game on’!

And so, I don’t see any reason in promoting the coin at this stage with just empty promises (also, promotion costs money). And I don’t want to give any kind of promises either.
I did not create this coin, but I did mine it back in 2015.
And since nobody else is interested in ASN, I’m happy to devote some of my personal time to this project.
Since this is just my free time at the moment, I don’t feel obliged to adhere to some timeframes or work on features that I don’t like.

If you have some spare time that you can devote to this project, please PM me. Any help is great. Even just posting to this thread counts [Moжнo пo pyccки], as it is a bit lonely here now.

On the positive side, the network is working fine, both block explorers are ok and exchange is operating.



Ascension coin turned out to be almost one to one clone of boostcoin, see github: https://github.com/ascensioncoin/AscensionCoin
That is an old codebase and is not worth supporting.
Because of this, Ascension coin blockchain will be migrated to a new codebase (forked from a more recent coin). If you have suggestions from which one – please PM/post here.
This is a lengthy process and needs careful testing and execution, so it will take some time.
But this is an important step and will create a stable base for ASN moving forward.
Also, while migrating to the new blockchain, we will have an opportunity to change name from “Ascension coin” to something else. Again, if you have preferences – please name them.
ETA: July – September 2019.



*** IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ***
If you have ASN coins from year 2015, please stake them or move them to some new address before July 2019.
The reason for this is that there are many ‘dead coins’, probably the private keys/wallets are lost for them and they amount to a big proportion of total ASN supply.
Coins that were never moved or staked in 2018/2019 will be considered lost forever and will not appear in the new blockchain.
Their total amount will either be redistributed (airdrop?), mined, donated to ASN foundation, burned forever or something else (please post here or PM what you prefer).

Interesting fact:

Conteaza’s question regarding source code of ASN being old got me wondering about the origins of Ascension source code. It was not properly forked from some other coin on github/bitbucket, so was not obvious what it was  cloned from.
And so I did a bit of a research…
Turns out it goes like this: Bitcoin -> PPCoin -> NovaCoin -> BoostCoin -> Ascension.

I also renamed current AscensionCoin repository to AscensionCoin-legacy and re-created AscensionCoin as a fork of boostcoin-core.
You can see how it is possible to turn BoostCoin into Ascension coin by looking at the first few commits in AscensionCoin github.
(You can verify this by checking out AscensionCoin and AscensionCoin-legacy repos and doing a file comparison with a tool like WinMerge)

I created a clone of bitcoin 0.13 (it is compatible with current ASN blockchain) in our github repo and replaced strings.
I thought this massive string renaming is easier to do in main repository than merging later.

So you can now fork this repo to your github, work on it and create PR. I'll try to help you on this, as I also think it is important.

This is a takeover project. We are different people from devs of Ascension V1 and Ascension V2.
As far as I know, most of the V1 or V2 promises never came to life. Unfortunately.

I believe that it will work from the 3rd time. But will not give you any feature promises at this stage.

Having this groundwork is a requirement and it will probably not interest investors that much.

We have 3 community members working on this project part time.
We are still working on basic infrastructure set up. Website and V3 compiled wallets are short term goals.

Ascension Coin V3 is an alternative blockchain for Ascension coin V1 (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/asn-ascension-new-thread-httpsbitcointalkorgindexphptopic-10161820-984878).
Original developer abandoned the projects shortly after the start and gave all info (including premine) to second developer - Ascension Coin V2 (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/asn-ascension-1016182).
After V2 handover, the project slowly died. And there are no peers for V2 anymore, it is not possible to sync.
This is the 3rd attempt of running Ascension Coin, hopefully it will succeed this time, especially with your help.

Version 3 uses original blockchain from AscensionCoin until block 20,000 (Sat, 04 Apr 2015 05:30:33 GMT) before original developer gave up and transferred pre-mine funds.
After that block, it splits from V2 chain. And so block 20,001 (Tue, 06 Nov 2018 22:16:47 GMT) is different from V2 block.

If you participated in original Ascension Coin V1 mining in 2015, then please sync your old ASN wallets and start staking in V3.
If you purchased ASN after original handover (Ascension V2), then this AscensionCoin V3 is not for you. This blockchain will not support your coins.

We had the opportunity to takeover Ascension. Like written above in the roadmap, we plan right now to make Ascension an usefull crypto to the people. We don't want to make a currency that has just the ability to be exchanged for BTC on an exchange, we want to return at the root of the money, with a crypto that as a REAL use. Isn't the the main utility of a currency to buy things with? That's why we'll work on massive adoption by merchants and stores. We want that this crypto is benefit to this community and for this we'll release a lot of services backed by Ascension such as a crowdfunding platform, an ebay-like site all backed by the anonymity and the safeness. After that Ascension is well-established, we'll work on masternodes, which will be implented just after the ebay-like site release. Together we'll ascend again!

The first 86 blocks were mined prior to launch. Block 1 contained the pre-mine. Blocks 2 through 86 were empty blocks. A checkpoint was set to secure the network. The first block after this post will be block 87.

Seed-nodes are hard-coded into the wallet. Add-nodes in the conf file are not required.



The new Ascension wallet BETA is here! You can download it from the links at the top of this post. It contains a few new features that will be elaborated on below. In short, it now has a block explorer inside the wallet itself, has in-wallet encrypted messaging (which we call AscendChat), and contains coin-join mixing technology (which we call AscendSend). Without further ado, on to the details:


AscendChat is encrypted in-wallet chat. You simply click on messages and then select the address you want to chat from, and the address you want to chat to. Enter your message and click send. Then click OK. Your message is now sent. You can now chat back and forth, securely, with anyone you wish.



AscendSend is essentially the coin-join feature with an ASN tweak or two. The nodes have been set up with 5001ASN on each for mixing purposes. This is required in order for it to mix coins properly. The current limit on AscendSend is 5000ASN per transaction. This may be increased in the near future, but for now, don't send over 5000ASN in one transaction. This process requires a specific order of actions to achieve the desired result of sending through the coin-mixer.


How:
 1. Create a new wallet address and label it 'mixer'
 2. Send the amount of coins you want to send to your new 'mixer' address
 3. Wait for ~25 confirmations to pass.
 4. Enable coin control from the advanced features options in the wallet. Check how many coins are located in the wallet called mixer and how many confirmations have passed for the mixer address balance.
 5. Go to the send coins page in the wallet.
 6. Enter the destination address.
 7. Enter the amount of coins you want to mix (To a maximum limit of 5000)
 8. Select the 'sendanon' checkbox
 9. Press send and wait for a short amount of time for the notification to return. You will see a smaller amount in the notification due to the process splitting up the TX in to smaller amounts.
 10. The mixers will now process the smaller TX then send into the block chain to the destination address.
