Everything I read here sounds really interesting. I didn't have any idea that this was a thing. Honestly, can't wait to see what kind of a platform they'll come up with. I also agree with most people that Atari will probably introduce something unique and fun, possibly something ground-breaking. Loved pacman, so I'd love to see it reinvented for online gambling.  Cheesy

Atari, the legendary entertainment company behind Pacman, has announced plans to launch a cryptocurrency casino with new partner Decentral Games.

The Atari Casino will be built in a virtual gaming district in the Ethereum-based Decentraland metaverse. The gaming district, known as ‘Vegas City’ will be host to Atari Casino on an initial two-year deal starting in May of 2021.

The virtual Atari Casino will feature Atari-themed games and Atari non-fungible Tokens (NFTs). Players will be able to play games using MANA, DAI, and ATRI (Atari) tokens. Prizes will be offered in Decentral Games’ native token $DG.

Players who earn $DG will be able to use the tokens to get involved in the running and management of the casino.

This is interesting !
There are a lot of Pac-Man fans. People are actually spending thousands of dollars on the old Pac-Man machines and this game cum gambling platform would be instantly popular but I do think they should add more to it ofcourse.
They have to thoroughly investigate on the crypto gambling sites and they can also team up with other casinos which are already good in the game which would prove to be beneficial for them for the long term.

I do think that this would give a different edge to gambling and they can at the same time take this opportunity to add even more games. The completion is hard! They have to make sure to stand out, which they already do but right now they have to also please a wide spectrum of audience otherwise it won't work since we are in the middle of the pandemic and it is always hard for big businesses to keep running.

It seems Atari has procured this gambling license for a record 7.5 million dollars in the last financial period.

https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2020/08/13/2077631/0/en/Annual-Financial-Results-2019-2020-Atari-delivers-another-financial-year-of-profitable-growth.html

So I assume that they won't be planning a very simple crypto casino here considering the amount of licensing fees they have paid. It's definitely good to see known brands are jumping into the crypto gambling bandwagon. Hopefully such known entrants will increase the overall reputation of this market.
Seriously they have spend huge amount as license fees but they might not be planning a simple casino because they have deep pockets being the favourite gaming house for every 90's kid.We all have played their games and still remember them and now following the crypto gambling trend they are also entering this market with NFT announcement as additional package. It would be really interesting to watch which games they have included in the site and what crypto pairs they are allowing to use to deposit. They can provide tough competition to other casinos in the market if they develop user friendly interface and provide some unique gambling experience.

If Atari could just provide an NFT blockchain based games instead of launching another cryptocurrency based casino, it would be much better. Similar from what others have previously pointed, crypto industry currently have tons of successful casino games and I don't think adding another would significantly gain traction on their part.

I mean they are known for creating successful games from before, wouldn't be a good idea to just stick from creating NFT based games that let other people earn from simply playing them? NFT based games owned by them could definitely gain more traction from the masses I think.

It is obviously good news that company as big as Atari joins crypto gambling business. Although I feel like Atari tries any business to make money in their last years (considering their failed video game console) Atari NFTs will be the most interesting ones with that casino for sure.
Totally agreed on this point because We need Big established company to entrust this market and having Atari now on the league will surely a Best interest not only for gamblers but also for crypto community and the 90's people.

I'm an Atari Player from my Teen, and I'm sure this plan will be a Big hit as well ..

Being one of the most popular from the past and they handled their name up to now , So Looking forward in trying this one..

From a Typical Video game from childhood and now a gambling Game in mature time  Wink
It's a hard to predict a success story or a failure for this coming casino, there are many casinos and gambling game providers already settled in the place. Atari has to offer a really game changing experience to attract gamblers, otherwise they will stay on their usual platforms they know and they trust, and where they have bonuses from their seniority. It's a big challenge for Atari I think.

I haven't heard the news about Atari for a very long time, because it's been a long time since I played Atari either. And now suddenly there is news
that Atari will launch a crypto casino, this is very good news for the crypto world. With Atari's big name as an old game company, it can attract
the interest of many game fans who really like gambling. The owner of Atari saw a great opportunity in the crypto world, finally intending to launch
a crypto casino. Hopefully this can make more and more people get to know about cryptocurrency.

I didnt know they were still alive! I havent heard anything about them in years.
It makes sense to try and modernise by moving into a crypto casino.
How many 90's and 00's kids will know Atari?
Since it seems that they want to launch a cryptocurrency casino then they do not have to worry too much about kids not knowing who they are, they are going to try to get the people that have a lot of memories playing their games.

Atari, the legendary entertainment company behind Pacman,
huh ? pacman ? i thought they became famous because of the legendary game space invaders   Huh  and the pacman was popularly known because of namco .

Players who earn $DG will be able to use the tokens to get involved in the running and management of the casino.
cool . does it mean that we can get the experience of running this casino ? thats new to me and they are too kind to allow this service , for sure different types of people ( gamer , non gamer , non gambler , gambler  ) that are going to try this  . itl also be better if they will add esports along with that casino because it was related to video games

Pac Man was 1980, Space Invaders was 1978! accourding to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_age_of_arcade_video_games
Oh man I spend hours and hours and hours at Space Invaders and Pac Man on those
table arcades.

This is exactly why they can become extremely popular if they pull off this correctly, people don't think too much of Atari now because they know what happened to the company but there was a time in which it was the biggest company when it came to video games and they have a lot of intellectual property that could help them to become really popular in a very quick way.

Yeah, looks good and they must have some new games under their sleeves which would be refreshing to play and from what I can read in the article, we can play with DAI, MANA and ATRI tokens which although looks limited but maybe they will accept other coins as well.

Players who earn $DG will be able to use the tokens to get involved in the running and management of the casino.
You have copied this from the article as it is, I was wondering how this will actually work. Does it mean something like how we do at betfury right now? Wager and earn some coins which then we can use and earn passive income. Looks very interesting and they are expecting $150m revenue within the first year which actually might come true given how big the crypto industry right now is.

This is definitely very exciting news as this is a tech company that is going to try its bid in the gambling industry using digital space. This is a respectable gaming company that has existed for such a long time now that it has the reputation to attract big companies to cooperate with it for them to be able to launch the cryptocurrency casino. This is a new phase in the gambling industry and we might see more companies investing in cryptocurrency because of this.

While the idea is interesting, it seems that they have choosen the wrong chain. Ehtereum is still a project in construction - yes even if it has been around for such a long time - they just seem unable to get the PoS network in place and have wasted too much valuable time, allowing things such as the Binnace Chain.

I think that Atari may be better served, along with all users, if they use their resources to build a more effective chain.

It is definitely going to be interesting and it is going to be worth a look at least, if they actually concentrate on their product and the games they offer I do not see how they will not be successful, can you imagine the kind of games they can release with the use of their intellectual properties like pacman? If they do it right then they could definitely hit a home run with this, the only thing they need to watch for are the costs as it takes some time for a casino to become successful.

NFTs are pretty hot right now and you can also purchase digital collectibles if you're a big Atari fan. It will make you nostalgic if you look through the cards they have in the marketplace, most of them have the old school styles. It may be just a running fad that will possibly die soon, seeing companies like these brings a lot of positive influence.

I'm hoping to see more large gaming industries adopting blockchain and NFTs as well, this could be very big for the gaming industry especially since the gaming industry has been booming recently even amidst the pandemic.

Yupp NFTs are the one that is making a good hype in this bullrun. Some artist had already tried to create their own and sell for auction. atari could really try this after all they are pretty much an old-school company in the world of gaming.

There are some doubts about atari however they did run an ICO before which turns out that the project wasn't materialized. Some users are already calling them scam because of it and now they are up to release atari casino and tokens. It's best to just wait untill the project is released.

So the bigger the gambler, the bigger the controlling interest in the Casino?  A gambler with deep pockets could (in theory at least) wrest control of the Casino from its creators and then steer the Casino towards a rival's brand name (or, just park the casino and point it to their own brand).

I somehow can't see that happening.

But why not? It is not different from governance of tokens now,,, especially in staking tokens. The bigger your stake the more votes you have when it comes to governance decisions. Maybe ultimately a casino has a power to say how it runs the mechanics but ultimately investors can have a voice in choosing the political direction:)
I agree with you, decentralization is not necessarily a bad thing, owners just need to keep an important amount of tokens to stay in control of the organization. This is usually what they do at the beginning at least.

That is pretty awesome news, but I really can't see how exactly this will become mainstream.

Crypto gamblers operate under a particular niche of convenience, anonymity, and liquidity. With a completely separate NFT as a medium of exchange, as well as a not very accessible game mode, this will probably just end up being a fad that will quickly fade into obscurity.

But this does signal once again the mainstream adoption of crypto - that can't be disputed.
