My bet would be on a fast sell-out of batch 2, regardless.

Did they told you (chinese customers) the reason of the delay in shipping? It cannot be customs there.

No, I personally have heard no Chinese customers receiving their products. And I believe if there is any news in any form of publicity it will be explosive in the Chinese bitcoin social network. There was no explanation in this post.

Just when you thought BFL was the least professional company on Earth...suddenly a new contender for the crown emerges. Sad

This is too much, they can keep their batches. Fear >>> Greed^5 after this nonsense.

Pretty hard to do but they have pulled it off.

I think I called this one pretty close on the 25th...

...

Avalon has shipped boxes with bricks in them.  They are tracking the packages and are waiting until they are near their destination.  Despite what they've said about Batch #2 being open only after the first reviews, they make an announcement that in the interest of time, they are opening up Batch #2 orders, which quickly sells out, even though they've increased the number available to 2,000.  The first packages arrive, are found to be bricks and we never hear from Avalon again.

What did I get wrong?  It would appear that rather than shipping bricks, they've failed to ship anything at all, so there is no need to track it.  Now they're announcing Batch #2 and increasing it not to 2,000, but a more modest bump from 500 to 600.  This will quickly sell out and we'll never hear from Avalon again.

That is my prediction.  Prove me wrong Avalon.

Well, they're honest about it at least. (No, that doesn't mean they're free to scam people, but I think the over/under on them is still that they're probably legit.)

Wow.  Couldn't ask for a better soap opera on TV.

For giggles, i pasted the chinese into google translate and while i know it is not an exact translation - the wording on number 2 really caught my eyes:

2, there is no guarantee. These include but are not limited to: the risks of third-party evaluation, we are liars risk, due to the risk of objective and competent reason can not be shipped on time, bitcoin itself a serious problem and can not continue to exist.

-- I have to say: if that is even somewhat accurate - i can't believe anyone would order from them in the second batch.  I mean really, they are asking you to accept the term:  we might be liars???

Wow. squared.

...and this is the respectable ASIC vendor. Holy crap. Roll Eyes

Order NOW! Don't wait for the proof we promised! HURRY HURRY HURRY! WE NEED MONEY! RUN don't walk!
And the funny thing is, people will probably do it.

I doubt they set the date of open batch orders on the 31st with blind luck on their side.

They probably know when it will get there and when the review should be done. $400 is either express or critical express (same day). The only hold up is probably customs.

I doubt they will allow us to choose the shipping speed now that they are sending them out without notice.

Where are all of the profits from batch #1?

* gigavps pulls out his calculator

1,299 * 300 == $389,700

Surely if you don't have any profits left over you'd keep your word and do some demos before asking for another $900k right?

Excuse me for posting Chinese here, but I think it is really important to record it here ASAP and then later translate it by me or other volunteers. This post was posted by an ID of ngzhang0 on the bbs.btcman.com, a Chinese bitcoin forum.

Basically, this post are offering for 100 unit pre-ordering through bank wiring in China before Jan 31, 2 days before the foreign customers. Each order should be at least 5 units but no more than 30 units.

The so called ngzhang0 said:

1) the 60Ghash/s and 6.6-6.7w/GHs spes have been tested.
2) this batch will be shipped during from 20130306 to 20130405
3) the terms:
No refund(the argument for this clause is not plausible absolutely, so I don't waste my time translate it)
No guarantee, accept the risks, such as no 3rd party test, it could be a scam, cannot ship on time and bitcoin die.
    No customer service.
The address cannot be changed after you submit the order.

It is late night in China, so happy discussion everyone. I am going to bed. All of this is so exciting that I cannot sleep

Well, by their previous statements, they expect the first couple of customers to receive their units this week, so it's going to be a couple of exiting days.
I bet everyone is going to flood the site and occupy phantom Batch 2 orders.

Thus waiting for the reviews to come out.

So, we have a problem. Avalon need the money before this weekend starts to place orders for the parts. For those unbelievers, let's hope Jeff receives his unit before batch #2 starts selling on EST 9:00 AM, January 31st, 2013.

The spec is 6.6 ~ 6.7w per Gh/s. Speed is greater than 60Gh/s, batch size is 600, each unit is $1,500, payment gateway is provided by WalletBit, units will ship starting March 6th to April 5th, 2013.

Keep an eye on http://launch.avalon-asics.com as new information will be released on it every day until review happens.

The following is the no bullshit, no fine print terms of sales for Avalon batch #2.

Bitcoin Only - Batch #2 of Avalon will only accept bitcoins. Only Bitcoin will allow us to move half a million USD in a few hours into places they are suppose to go to.

I'm sorry! I quit reading prior to the yellow text and was ready to comment. Then stopped myself, thinking it best to read further. I seriously quit reading at the point quoted above.

I'm speechless. Utterly, speechless!

I'm going to take a piss, then get a fresh cup of coffee. Then I'm going to finish reading the rest of this thread before commenting further. Hopefully, I'll be able to contain myself.

Madness!

When my 1st-batch Avalons arrive I'll happily share photos and details with everyone, although I imagine by that time we'll all know the details thanks to Jeff and/or the Foundation.

You got any tracking information for that? Can anybody prove that Avalon has shipped anything at all?

      • Bitcoin Only
        • No Refunds
          • No Proof
      Wow... No Way ..
      It is completely reasonable.

Bitcoin Only - It is easier to accept BTC, and they need to move money fast to pay suppliers

No Refunds - This protects Avalon against people freerolling them as a hedge against BFL.  If Avalon allowed refunds, and BFL shipped both on-time and within-spec, then nearly every rational buyer would ask for a refund, due to the 65nm vs 110nm efficiency gap.

No Proof - They are just being honest here.  No amount of pictures / video will satisfy the doubters (but seriously Avalon, how about a video of a unit hashing...) and they are trying hard to expedite the delivery of the first unit to Jeff.

Oh, of course. And these suppliers take Bitcoin, eh? Think about that for a minute.
I thought about this some more and it does sound odd.  Perhaps selling BTC in china is faster than receiving international wires?  Regardless of speed, Bitcoin is certainly easier to set up automated orders for.
      So...
Bitcoin, our favourite fledgeling currency that we all wish to be accepted by everyone, is the medium of exchange demanded by this merchant.

They say they need Bitcoin in order to move funds around quickly to their vendors, implying there are companies or people who are willing to accept Bitcoin in exchange for goods and services.

Why is that a bad thing? Isn't that precisely what we have all wanted?

I'm still willing to give Avalon the benefit of the doubt. When my 1st-batch Avalons arrive I'll happily share photos and details with everyone, although I imagine by that time we'll all know the details thanks to Jeff and/or the Foundation.
