Out of curiosity - will BAMT support 5 or 6  HD7970 cards?

it will support whatever the AMD driver supports.  Usually that means 8 gpus total.

Any idea what this means?
Code:
(process:308): GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)
startpar: service(s) returned failure: gdm ... failed!

aticonfig --list-adapters showed 0 supported adapters

it means its time for you to write the image to your key again, and maybe just get a new usb key if things like that keep happening.

Is there any way to figure about the CPU temperature and speed?
My CPU fan has been running unusually high and the thermal paste was applied horribly.
I cleaned the fan from a ton of dust already.

reapply the cpu thermal paste?

Thanks lodcrappo, that is good to know.
Have another question: how big the new BAMT will be?

Why I am asking this, the old BAMT that was meant for at least a 2GB stick was in fact too big for some 2gb sticks, which were in fact 1.8GB.
I always had to shrink the image prior to load it on my stick. So maybe you could make the image a biiiit smaller?
Something like 1.7GB or eventually 3.7GB whatever is the case.

bamt 0.6 has much smaller requirements and dynamically resizes the persistence partition to the size of the key.  It may work on 512MB key, it will definitely work on 1GB keys.

AWESOME news!  Now if we could PXE boot...

I am curious about those high temperatures, what physical setup do you have?
You have the cards in a closed/open case or in an open rig with cards wide apart using extenders..etc?

I have them in an open banana box made of wood. I use extenders so one card is directly on the board and the others are above with about 3 cm space between each. More place i do not have. Now over night they came down to 74 the highest temp. So i will have an eye on it.

6870's are engine -100. I set --auto-gpu --auto-fan --gpu-engine 950 --gpu-memdiff -100 -I 9 and forget about them for weeks, they clock down a bit during the day and go back up at night, and they never crash.
OK yep - silly me Smiley Wrong again Smiley I guess I should have said 69xx
Is it all 68xx are -100, or no one knows?

Weird, this 125 difference is working for my 6xxx.
If temperatures are worrying you, yes go with the bios flash.

hmm no when i put anything lower than 840 it goes back to 1050

ok i will try it. thanks
The default BIOS setting in most 6xxx cards is a lower limit of -125 difference.
... I would have said ALL 6xxx cards except you seem to have one that isn't Smiley
So with cgminer you use --gpu-memdiff -125 on 6xxx
(of course you need a collection of other options too)
