Will this release be able to run old 5xxx and 6xxx AMD cards along with 7xxx without performance penalties?

no

to clarify to the point of sillyness:  BAMT 0.6 will not enable the use of multiple driver versions or multiple SDK versions simultaneously on the same rig.  Therefore you will not be able to mix 5/6 series with 7 series in the same rig without performance penalties on the 5/6 series GPUS.  It will however support the use of any one driver version and any one SDK version, including those that perform well with 5 and 6 series and those that work with 7 series.  Deciding which driver and SDK version is best for your setup is left as an exercise for the reader.  For people running 5/6 series only, there will be no change unless you decide to install 7xxx support.

BAMT 0.6 does away with the 'fixer' and moves everything into an apt repository.  The repository has a main flavor and three optional flavors which are 5xxx, 7xxx and fpga.  Selecting the 5xxx flavor will result in the same driver and sdk that we have always used.  7xxx will give you a newer driver which supports 7xxx but will reduce performance on other cards, as all drivers that support 7xxx do.  The fpga flavor will make gold fall from the sky and submit bogus 1099 forms to the IRS in your name.  The choice is yours.

I could be wrong but from all I know old cards (5xxx/6xxx) perform poorly with the newer SDK that is needed for 7xxx series.
I am guessing (just guessing) that this new version will be tuned specifically for 7xxx, while for 5xxx/6xxx we should probably better use the old BAMT.

yes, this.

A new release is in the works.

Things may change, but it appears 0.6 will provide:

64 bit support (only)
bfgminer integration
amd 7xxx support
newer kernel (3.2) and more drivers for you wifi crazy bastards
better fpga support
a kinder, gentler mother

Will this release be able to run old 5xxx and 6xxx AMD cards along with 7xxx without performance penalties?

no

Just to be pedantic, could you clarify what I hope is the case, namely that there won't be a performance penalty in the new release if you ONLY mine with 5xxx cards (i.e. do NOT mix them with 7xxx cards on the same rig)?

Okay, without the ever increasing string of implied and explicit negators:

Will my all-5xxx rigs mine just as well with 0.6 as with 0.5?

Lodcrappo,

Why BFGminer and not cgminer?

Better stability, better support for FPGA devices, better relationship with the developer

lodcrappo,

How can I change a file on the stick so that it persists upon reboot?

Problem I have:
I reverse proxy my main mpgumon URL. However, for some strange reason (I haven't found the issue yet), the gzipped content encoding for mgpumon.css is mangled and doesn't load in the browser... I 'fixed' this by changing "AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/css" to "# AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/css" in the file "/etc/apache2/mods-enabled/deflate.conf". I now want this to survive a reboot Smiley

all files in etc are persistent

Sometimes when my screen is blank and I move mouse to get picture BAMT becomes unresponsive???

Thanks...

Is it possible to update cgminer to the latest version on BAMT? Im a total linux noob as well as new to bitcoins. So far I have used the guiminer in windows and then switched to BAMT where I use the gui to set everything up. My command line experience is minimal, however Im eager to learn.

I want to use cgminer 1. just to try a different miner 2. to experiment/learn 3. to use the autofan feature to automatically adjust the fan speeds up and down as needed.

I have no idea how to even setup/use the cgminer thats included with BAMT so maybe thats a first step? But I figured the latest version might be more stable/faster/more features?

Where do I start?

you may wish to hold off, some changes in the upcoming version will make things easier.

as for using the latest version, I don't know if it's a good idea.  We use the version we use because there were stability issues with newer versions.  I have heard that version 2.5.0 is good, but not sure on versions after that.  Also don't know if there are any performance improvements or what features might be present in versions newer than the one we use.  Someone else might be able to comment on that.

in any case, get the included version working before working with something else, since you are at least working with a well tested and known stable version then.

sweet, new version coming, yay!

I saw your post about the upcoming version, very cool! Thanks for your work on this project, by the way!!

Is there a tutorial somewhere for cgminer on BAMT? I saw in the conf file a comment about it but all it says is "see full version to use cgminer instead" or something similar... where/what is the full version?

look at /opt/bamt/examples/bamt.conf for the full set of options, including those needed for cgminer

Thanks, it took me a lot of trial and error but I think I got it working!

Hi, I started up my rig again after taking the summer off.  It is mining, but munin isn't recording the data.  Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or do I have to reinstall it?

there is almost certainly something you could do to fix it, but i doubt there is anything as easy as just writing the image to your key again and configuring a couple files.
