I just noticed the other day you'd been banned while inactive.

There's a couple of persons who are DT distrusting inactive users (some of whom have been inactive for years) - essentially it's manipulation of the DT trust system.

We have users who are openly ban evading, yet here you are being banned whilst inactive.

Hang in there and keep persuing it.

Regards,

What's the issue with distrusting inactive users? Distrusting a user is based on their feedback. Assuming an inactive user's inaccurate feedback doesn't change, they should remain distrusted.

Likewise trusting user's feedback  who are inactive is fine, as long as their feedback remains accurate. While this isn't always the case, it should be on a case by case basis.

Also, how are we supposed to know whether a user will return after years of inactivity... which happens from time to time. Curious.

2FA account protection is a thing here in this forum since theymos posted the announcement on evening of 2023-12-21. Sure, you might have missed that announcement but you should have seen the option to setup 2FA on the password change page when it was actually you who changed your password.

When you have a suspicion or signs that your account got hacked, why not bother to activate 2FA? How does your story add up here?
I wonder how many members have taken up the 2FA factor option. Though it might be impossible to ascertain how many hack attempts have been foiled as a result of members implementing the 2FA option, the actual number of members that have used the option (including those that might have reverted) should be available to theymos and it would be interesting to know the numbers involved.

... and for spreading phishing links through PMs (while inactive).  Cheesy
That's how DTs make up there mind really, nice league you follow there.

Excuse me? What exactly are you accusing me of here? Can you be more specific? Did I say something untrue?

If the forum staff says that your account was used to send DMs with phishing links, I have no reason not to believe that information. And, considering your trust score, I have no reason to take your word at face value.
That is one of the problems, after a recent thread was created related to alleged hacked accounts asking for loans, there is no way to know if any of those (or this) hack actually happened. If members keep posting they should not receive bans because their account was hacked then that trend will continue until/unless something changes.

The member with a dubious account that recently asked for a loan and deleted the request citing his account was hacked (at least that is what happened if memory serves correct), is another example. I certainly do not believe the drama when by far the majority (if not all) claim their account was hacked and they did not ask for a loan and/or they did not send the phishing links but every member will come to their own conclusions.

If we entertain the possibility that your account got hacked and you're not the one sending those PM, wouldn't the content of the PM itself no longer relevant and won't help with your situation, as your primary goal here now will be to prove that you got hacked?

What difference does that make? There is nothing in the contents of that PM that can help you.

The content is relevant to me as I could maybe make a clue out of it about the intent of the person who logged into my account.

Relevant how? You happen to know the hacker or will be able to identify the culprit if you get ahold of those PMs? And about the intent, err... It's to phish? Kinda moot.

Also, I am sure I can prove that my account was hacked and it was not me who sent those spam PMs by showing the proves of that password change email with hackers IP.

You're free to provide the list of IP logged in to that account here and let mods decide if they'll still stick to the ban or not.

My account is important to me and I never said I abandoned my account, I do regularly login and read the forum. I didn't knew I would be banned hours after I changed my password to secure it.

But, I did got an email on 24/12/23 about my password being changed by an unknown IP. I checked it on internet and it shows to be located in UK. Not sure if I can post the IP here, but will keep updated if I find more information.
Did you bother to lock your account once you got that notification?

I saw the email 2 day's later and than got banned instantly after that, as I said already I did not check the outbox. Even if I did I would have not been able to revert those PMs.

If we entertain the possibility that your account got hacked and you're not the one sending those PM, wouldn't the content of the PM itself no longer relevant and won't help with your situation, as your primary goal here now will be to prove that you got hacked?

This whole thread seems pointless. Are you trying to convince the admins that the account you had abandoned is suddenly so important to you and it's totally not your fault that it was banned? You're doing a shit job at that. Even if we believe your story, it looks like you knew the account was compromised and did nothing to secure it. But weirder things have happened, like serial plagiarisers getting their bans lifted so what do I know.

People posting here due to personal biases is pointless, this ban appel thread is totally fine and on point. My account is important to me and I never said I abandoned my account, I do regularly login and read the forum. I didn't knew I would be banned hours after I changed my password to secure it. I agree with you on one thing though about weirder things have happened.

Hang in there and keep persuing it.

There is always the possibility he is telling the truth about his account either getting hacked or being used without his consent but only he can explain why he is trying to save the banned account when the account served no purpose. He is not exactly a prominent, overtly-liked or trustworthy member of the forum that he would be logging in to read and reply to a litany of PMs therefore why he was logging in to the (now banned) account regularly but was not posting remains a point of speculation.

As the OP will not be able to prove the account was hacked and I find the story hard to believe since it is regarding the "hacker1001101001" account:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/hacker1001101001-1021758
I agree. Sounds like a made up story. The account has multiple negatives and was abandoned for years. So, why the sudden interest?

I don't think he will be able to help you on that since it's only admins who are able to view PMs as far as I know.
Admins and global moderators can do it.

No, I don't think so. Global mods cannot see PM's unless you use the report to mod function.

Btw, it would be great if you could help me with knowing exactly what type of PMs were sent from my account, if you could PM me some examples it would be an help. I guess you already know as they were reported by some member's here.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/hacker1001101001-1021758

The last post made by the account was in June 2022 therefore it is not as though he has been contributing to the forum and as a result the account will be missed: https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/hacker1001101001-1021758;sa=showPosts

He regularly logged in to the account but did not post, one can only draw their own conclusions why someone would do that but keeping that aside let us also not forget the account in question has multiple negative tags: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=1021758

It has been 19-20 months since his last post here using the hacker1001101001 account therefore why bother appealing the ban regardless of the reason the account was banned? Since it brought nothing constructive to the forum it would be preferred if the account remained banned.

I am intrigued by the possibility of your account being hacked. The forum is recently under "attack" of hacker silently co-living with the real owner, where they didn't hold it for ransom or change the credentials so the owner can't access it, they move under the radar by not touching anything and execute their action. One of the recent case is asking for a loan.

If you claimed that you never send a PM yet your account got banned for phishing PM... can you check your IP log as per Despairo suggested? Through https://bitcointalk.org/myips.php?

I am fascinated by the hacker too as he really had a bad strategy. My account is inactive from past some time and not a good target.

Also, I did check the IP logs and I can see very less logs recorded in past month and no wired IP logs at the end of the month. But, I did got an email on 24/12/23 about my password being changed by an unknown IP. I checked it on internet and it shows to be located in UK. Not sure if I can post the IP here, but will keep updated if I find more information.

I am sure it's allowed, another user that got his account compromised with this similar "co-living" method posted a list of IP addresses. Censor your own IP, and leave the other that's from the hacker visible. It might help your case by proving that your account got compromised and you're not the one sending those phishing PM.

It does appear that he can't via the screenshot provided, but not allowing people to see their outbox seems a bit weird and it's the first I've heard of it. Don't suppose it matters either as the messages were reported.

It's wired, although it is the same from as far as I can remember this forum.

Btw, it would be great if you could help me with knowing exactly what type of PMs were sent from my account, if you could PM me some examples it would be an help. I guess you already know as they were reported by some member's here.

Admins and global moderators can do it.

Deleted posts are almost never removed from the database. A PM is removed from the database if the sender and all recipients delete it.

Full database backups are created daily, and all global moderators and admins can download the (encrypted) backups and implement their own rotation policies.

Forwarding a phishing email around will not be a good choice for admin or global moderator. I think they will only make a screenshot of the email content and share it, if they want.

That's the first I've heard of it, too. I checked and indeed, outgoing messages cannot be viewed by a banned account. By the way, I tried using the message search and it turns out that the search also works only with incoming messages. That's a rather strange solution.

Maybe he can request a copy of the sent personal messages from the ban appeals email.

Are you sure you can't even view your sent messages once banned? Not sure that's true, but they were the standard hey x i've replied to you here etc.
-snip-

You don't understand the question, hilariousandco is saying that you can view the list of sent messages even if you are banned. He is not talking about sending a message to anyone on the forum. Obviously, you are unlikely to be able to do that.

I think he actually got blocked from the entire "My Messages"page, because normally, the forum's "address bar" will shows something like below, with its subsection being shown. I don't think we can simply choose "Personal Messages" section, it always followed by a subsection

But his shows like this,
