compiled the linux version from source but i had to comment out some lines in the code until i got it working.
now it's fully synced... and some "lost" transactions which i couldn't receive with the fully synced old version now showed up.
so better switch as the dev suggested.

let it sit and it should sync. Took me about 45 minutes. Only 2 connections

My advice is to wait ... till it will synchronize
I was stuck for a bit too but after a while everything seems to be working just fine.
I never add any nodes I am just using same configuration as it is by default.

Mine is synced and at block 300569
Mine is also synced at the moment

Mine seems to be ok until I unlock it for staking, then it comes up with all the blocks remaining.
But when I am not doing that, then the green tick appears and all is fine.
I don't know why it is happening for you.
In my case at the moment 'unlocked' wallet is @ block 300614 and it is synchronized.
