It is surprising to see that the odd to win of Ronnie O'Sullivan is quite low. He is the best snooker player in the world and recently won the World Championship for the 6th time, but I think his chances to win are quite low. The only snooker player to have ever won the BBC Sports Personality is Steve Davis. Even the great Stephen Hendry has never won it.
I think snooker is not the popular though, and although Ronnie O'Sullivan is really that good, I don't think he reach so much influence as let's say compare to Fury right now or Lewis Hamilton.

I am placing a bet on Fury to win the award.
Fury is clearly the the odds favorite to win and he could get it this year with his back to back wins against Wilder.

Do you know the criteria for choosing the BBC Sports Personality 2020?

Why Manny Pacquiao not in the list? I would put my bet on him regardless of the odds if he is part of it, and I'm just curious, what do you think is the reason why Fury is the heavy favorites?
Just to add small info to Kemarit's answer. BBC is a British broadcasting media company. If there will be this kind of awarding managed by another company or organization and the entries could be from any nationality, we may see Manny Pacquiao included in it.
But for now, we should focus on the nominees specific to their own athletes.

Damn, my bad, honestly, I know BBC is popular, I can see it on my TV channels but I didn't know its (BBC) meaning, haha..

Sorry guys, please just disregard my comments and question.

From the list shown, it must Lewis Hamilton. I am not really a fan of him but he is without doubt a great athlete who can even become the greatest in Formula 1 this season. The other nominees didn't do nearly as great and the 2019 season was just perfect for him. It would be a disappointment if he would not win it.

There is also a good case for Lewis Hamilton, won his 6th titles, second place in all time list behind the great Schumacher. Of course he could have accomplished more this 2020 and move first in the all time list, but we all know that the pandemic affected a lot of sports. So it will be really a toss up between him and Tyson Fury. But I wouldn't be surprised Hamilton win this one.

The new season has started promisingly for him. I don't see any serious competition this year, which is why I expect him to overtake Schuhmachers record this year and become the biggest in the sport. As I said, I am not a fan of him but you have to acknowledge his achievements.

Manny Pacquiao is not British so he is out of the list,  Wink

Quote
The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award is the main award of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony, which takes place each December. The winner is the sportsperson, judged by a public vote, to have achieved the most that year. The recipient must either be British or reside and play a significant amount of their sport in the United Kingdom.

I think Fury's win over America's Wilder's will get my vote or, or least that's where I'm going to bet. And I think it has impacted British sports more than Marcus Rashford. And his comeback is really impressive, fought Wilder the first time in which he got up, and others may argue that he really won that fight. And then in the rematch, he outclassed Wilder (drop him twice) and won the title.

Who do you think will win the award? It seems that Tyson Fury is the likeliest winner. He's been favorite for this award since February, and he's still holding the status. Would you call putting some mbtc on him a safe bet?

I don't think it is a safe bet, but yeah most probably, it's going to be Tyson Fury for his win by KO against Wilder, because I believe its a good career achievement. Lewis Hamilton also stands a good chance for winning the F1 race, but I dont think he would become bbc sportsperson of the year because he has been winning almost all of the F1 races since 2014. Last year, Ben Stokes won the title because of the Cricket WorldCup win, so I don't think there is any chance for Broad, Butler or Root to win it either. For Murray, we have to wait for the US open results. Rest of them, I don't even know which sport they represent correctly.

Greetings!
While there have been considerations about the possible cancellation of the event in 2020 due to the pandemic, it seems that BBC Sports Personality of the Year will probably be awarded.
Are you planning to bet on it? Betting is available on Sportsbet.io:
