I think xrp have performed quite well because the margin at which it lost it's value from the last year all time high is minimal compare to most coin, So i think xrp in my own opinion though i have not studied all the coins in the market,
the best coin in my opinion is ethereum, although ethereum has decreased quite dramatically but ethereum still has good potential and prospects going forward, I'm sure ethereum prices can rise again, ethereum has many interested people interested in investing in it, I don't doubt ethereum's future

I think the best altcoin in 2018 would be Ripple beating Ethereum's market cap and creating more developments under their platform. With their cross border payment systems it is attracting more and more investors that makes Ripple demands higher.

Maybe not for speculation purposes, but the best project i've found that is actually adding value to the community (which is what we need) is Plutus. They are creating a crypto card that lets you spend your cryptocurrencies anywhere that accepts visa/mastercard (over 40million stores worldwide), unlike competitors they are achieving this in a decentralized way so its more in line with the Satoshi vision. One of the very few company's to go from white paper to a working beta product. I reckon it's going to be massive in 2019, got a great team and great fundamentals.

and in the end it was proven that at present all coins have experienced a very drastic decline in prices which made the price of coins cheap, so I don't think there are any best coins this year, because all coins have experienced very drastic price reductions, and are very risky now to buy a coin because of the unstable and uncertain market conditions.

We thought this year will be a great year for Ethereum, WAVES. But This year is ending with the bear condition. I have no interest or hope on any coins. 2018 will end without any miracle.

I really like how the stellar (XLM) showed itself this year. In comparison with other altcoins, xlm didn't fall so much.
Many will tell you to invest into the top ranked coins, and that is not bad investment for sure! But, how many good and solid projects that are not on top of the list?!! There are many of them! I do believe in the TRX project, but I love those innovative projects too, like this upcoming ARROUND platform for it is targeting the augmented reality and blockchain..
