Why do you not recommend Defi? this is an honest question. I've seen DeFi projects which are really doing great now for example Yearn.Finance by andre conje. It's initial price is 1k USD but now it skyrocketed to 39K and i wouldn't be surprised if it pass the 50k mark.

I think there are different type of altcoins that people invest into not just difference between coins but difference between ideas of coins as well. People who invest into ethereum usually invests because it is one of the biggest (well biggest after bitcoin) coin and it is very trustworthy, people invest into masternodes or proof of stakes because they want to have a steady income from it, some people invest into IEO or DeFi or whatever because they want to make more money.
By logic, there are different "types" of coins, which means people do not only pick coins but also pick the styles and depending on the style of coin you want to invest into you could probably find better between them, for a person who wants to invest into a defi, you can't just suggest eth, or for a person who wants to invest into a proof of stake you can't just offer a proof of work.
Ethereum, of course, many predict it will become an expensive coin in the future, I personally agree with it because ethereum continues to be seen

Well these kind of coins are good to invest if it were from one of the top and reliable exchange nowadays. Its because you have an assurance that the coin from a particular exchange has purpose and use case in the exchange's ecosystem. If you are asking for the best exchange to know I would recommend you for Binance. Though this is the best and largest trading exchanges i seen and working for last 3 years though there are some more exchanges like bittrex and so on but will recommend Binance for best from all side.For best alt coin except Btc then i would recommend BNB, ETH, LTC etc. If you are trying to switch to alt coin then buy for those coins and hold and sell it when the price up this coin can make you a good amount of profit.

If there is a McAfee in it, I still wonder why you say "very good for invest" because the projects that always exist McAfee always end in failure, scams, drama and also projects with blockchain like this. I think it is very difficult to succeed because many have tried but most projects always fails.

For your first question, you can join with binance. If you are a trader, it will help you more. I will suggest you for 2nd question that, try to invest on ethereum and bitcoin because most of the new altcoins are fake, scam and dead. I am thinking of switching from BTC trading to Alt trading. Binance always good to pick first, and then altcoin to invest maybe USDT, 
Or maybe ETH (this one is not kidding) i think i am not into a new coin person. Usually i pick old coins and then wait for profit. But not means i buy it at any price, only when dumped maybe like when it is dumped few days ago is good to buy.

Instead of asking for advice on which exchanges are the best and what are the best altcoins, I think it would be better for you to provide any input or information. Basically you are not a pure newbie, at least you already know what the best exchanges you used to trade Bitcoin before and also, if you have used the exchange there are at least a lot of altcoins there being traded. So I guess you already know a lot and it would be better to provide input for other newbies because how high the experience you have really matters when you share it.
