Hmm.. as trader i think better take a look low cap altcoin with dip but they must have and must have stable volume also not another abandon project if you found that alt's which i can say a lot of it. Try keep it as long terms like minimum 10 months but also as trader i must remind that btc will keep up and that make alt's more dip. So be carefulAs investor i think better is high cap altcoin which maybe you already know like ETH and Other's then keep it for long time cause you say "invest" that mean you are investor. And as far i know investor did not care much about price difference in the short term. Short time here i mean like 2 years. So keep it as long as you can.
I don't know much about altcoins but I'm sure that it's going to be good if we invest on ethereum.
try to chose most acceptable coin for payment and other transaction system, like ETHEREUM AND LITECOIN these two have high market value after bitcoin, due to such popularity it is predicted that prices of ethereum and litecoin will rise in next year like bitcoin.
Maybe right now I just believe in some Altcoin. Etherum and litecoin become one of my investment choices. Some other Altcoin like no prospects so I canceled to buy it. But if you look at Etherum then I see a good future, so I do not worry to buy as many coins as I want. Hopefully in the future I can benefit from the current coin purchases.

I have invested in Eth most likely eth is likely to rise high in 2018.
there are two coin that I would suggest for you to invest and that is the ethereum and the monero we know that monero is right next to bitcoin in this way bitcoin has the biggest and the ethereum has a second highest price this coin is also trustable and it has a working product second is monero I didn't research much but they say this coin has a great outcome

i would like to suggest to you ethereum and monero, first is the ethereum this altcoin has a lot of trust for this coin this is not just becuase it is one of the best altcoin but this coins has a lot of support from the other bitcoin communitites and the monero is a good one too but plsss do not invest in random coin invest to a altcoin that has a working product
Ethereum and ripple and litecoin are one of the most highest potential coin on the cryptocurrency market, dispite they have been crushed by bitcoin recently, however after the segwit2x i think their price will rise again, and may reach higher than they used to be.
I think the best altcoin is BTC, and I advice you to buy BTC and then invest your BTC. Maybe it will be very profitable of the you buy another altcoin to invest. Because the price of BTC very high compared another altcoin now. This is my opinion

Your example is exactly what most people do: buy when tokens are expensive and then dump them when they crash. Easiest way to lose money.
