AVG,because its free
If you are looking for free than you can use Microsoft security essential. It is better than AVG for me.

I use ESET Endpoint, and free version of malwarebytes. They may not be the best, they saved me several times.
I think as a free anti-virus Microsoft security essential is effective.

In the past Avast was good, but now the free version is to much trying to get money.
About commercial AV, Kaspersky is very good.

On my tablet I've tried the bitdefender free 3 month trial, and it's interesting also, even if it seem useless ^^

I think you should give a look here. AV-Comparative compare them against a common set of tests.

Avira Free Antivirus 2014 is easy to set up and use and it's good to see free mobile support and backup, as well as the core AV functions
