Kaspersky is good.
I use ESET Endpoint, and free version of malwarebytes. They may not be the best, they saved me several times.
I think as a free anti-virus Microsoft security essential is effective.

The best anti virus is common sense.
In the past Avast was good, but now the free version is to much trying to get money.
About commercial AV, Kaspersky is very good.
On my tablet I've tried the bitdefender free 3 month trial, and it's interesting also, even if it seem useless ^^

I find the best antivirus is yourself aslong as you make sure that files you download are safe and from trusted places
