Cardano, EOS and NEO can become the best competitors to Ethereum now, if Ethereum keeps losing value, do not show good movements, i think that Cardano, EOS and NEO can overtake Ethereum oneday in the future.
They can never overtake them. Maximum eos can take some part of the users. NEO and ADA will disappear in the future

The market has been pretty bear right now but i think that potential coins have a bigger chance to becoming the next Eth.
Ripple, Eos and Xlm is the best competitors to Etherium. I think in future one of this altcoins will cross Etherium.
Considering the developer community that stands behind Ethereum (devcon4 stands as proof), I cannot see how any recent project could be a "best competitor". However since new platforms are making constant progress, we might see changes in 2-3 years (i'm thinking of Zilliqa, Cosmos)
Long time since the post but I will put my opinion, I think there are many network such NEO, ICON, and EOS, but EOS suffering from some issues in their mainnet.
Obviusly IOTA lost this competition. I think next closer to Ethereum will be EOS, but it takes a lot of time coz now EOS looks very complicated for newbies. When it become more easy to get EOS wallet, it become more popular and will rise for sure.
I have heard a lot of good words about NEO. Like it's chinese Ethereum and almost good as it. Many people also talking about Ripple and very often comparing Ethereum and Ripple and discuss their relationships and which of them worth buying.
There are a lot of competitors of Ethereum. Like you said, Cardano, IOTA, QTUM, NEO and so on. But unfortunately, I do not see any of this coins overcoming Ethereum in the upcoming years. They need to do much more in their development and marketing to be competitive.

I think the best competitors of Ethereum are LTC, BCH, XRP, WAVES and etc. Because those coins are in the top 100 of altcoins. Also, when you read the platforms of those coins you will see how great the ICO is.
Byteball. It's like the Ethereum of DAG BUT with simpler smart contracts. Plus a friendly end user interface so can be used by both the man on the street and developers. Ethereum is only for developers.

for me i think ACM from GCOX not bad
I think it is no longer a good idea to discuss whether Ethereum has competitors, because the ICO market is weakening, and all encryption that relies on the ICO market may no longer achieve higher value!
Ethereum is like Bitcoin, but for the smart contracts and dapps industry. I do think PundiX will bring a revolutionary and truly democratic blockchain with their FX chain coming out sometime next year. They are literally decentralizing everything and anyone purchasing any of their hardware like the XPOS or XPHONE will become a node for the network bringing in much stabilization and security to the network like never before happening in the blockchain Industry.

Looking at the cryptocurrency market, you will find that there are many competitors in Ethereum, but I think they can't go beyond Ethereum. Now Ethereum has been greatly devalued, and it is worthless to go beyond Ethereum. So I will not choose to buy Ethereum competitors.
For me, the most formidable competitors of Etherim are NEO and EOS. I like these 2 projects more than Etherium, I am sure in a few years they will be permanent top 5 coins and will bring good profits to all investors.

ethereum is a legend coin, it is difficult to match with anything, all lots of tokens use the ethereum platform, soon ethereum will return to number two in the coinmarketcap

EOS, NEO, Cardano. This is the group of projects that can compete with Ethereum and even overtake It in the near future. It is quite possible and real.
you can invest in the different types of coins and they do not necessatry should look loke bitcoin or ethereum just make sure they are not scammers
yes, cardano is now developing quite fast, but unfortunately it can't compete with the popularity of ethereum. blockchain ethereum is used by many other platforms. look, how much crypto uses the blockchain ethereum.
That's certainly true, mate. However, that could change anytime soon, if Ethereum doesn't scale on-time. Other competitors have already adopted unique scalability solutions to handle anything within their path. They allow smart contracts to execute at a faster rate and at a cheaper cost than Ethereum itself. As such, if Ethereum takes too long to adopt Casper PoS and Sharding, then other rivals will have a huge advantage over it.
Cardano promises to deliver a solid smart contract platform with formal verification and PoS consensus. It has a dedicated development team with a well-thought roadmap, which aims to improve Cardano over time. Once Cardano's VM gains full steam ahead, then things will become interesting as developers would have another alternative to choose for their dApps. On the other hand, NEO has some promising tech to enable a smart economy. With the upcoming release of NEO 3.0, things will become better as it'll improve in performance every step of the way. That leaves us with EOS, which is another smart contract platform with blazing fast speeds and zero fees.
With no costs at all to send transactions or even execute a smart contract on EOS, it could become the number one choice for dApps and Tokens in the future. Of course, the only downside is that EOS is somewhat centralized, which is prone to manipulation from Block Producers. However, that might change in the future, as Dan Larimer proposed a new EOS Constitution for the improvement of EOS' Arbitration process.
As such, we're seeing new smart contract platforms emerging with better tech, features, and performance than Ethereum. Therefore, it should only be a matter of time before developers choose other alternatives besides Ethereum, if the original smart contract platform doesn't improve in performance ASAP. Just my opinion
