Thank you but Pesobit is a Philippine crypto from what I read online. It may not be a dollar worth anytime in its life cycle. What do you mean by interesting road map ?

I am advertising Pesobit in my signature and avatar, Pesobit community is growing every day, it has interesting roadmap and a lot of related sites to be developed. Today is the last ICO day, the invesments fund reached 41BTC , you can ckeck the ANN thread if you like to invest in small ICO projects.

Red-Apple , thanks for clarifying. I was not buying Bitcoin since I thought I need to buy atleast 1 full coin worth but will buy now.

I am not into wild speculation and would prefer looking for reliable information before I invest. Can you or others share information on how you decide on making an investment / buying a cryptocurrency ? what kind of information is important ? and where I should look for reliable news and how I should judge on whether I should invest in a specific cryptocurrency ? what should I look for ? I will be grateful for some guidance. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for those great responses. I never purchased Bitcoin and the current rates are too high for me to at the current time and may be too risky.

bitcoin is the most reliable investment that you can wish for among cryptocurrencies and it doesn't matter if it is worth $1 or $1,000,000 you can buy a portion of bitcoin you don't have to buy a whole
1BTC so invest the amount of money you can afford to.

also the risks is much lower than altcoins.

It seems Monero can only be purchased if I buy Bitcoin first.

4 out of your 5 replies mentions Monero Cheesy
if you really think it is a good investment then go for it.
and yes the safest way to purchase monero is with bitcoin but there are some other places that you can buy with other altcoins like LTC, NXT, ... or some of the fiat currencies like USD, CNY although i don't suggest any of them but you can find the markets on coinmarketcap.com

Can someone point out to a reliable source or news which shows on why a cryptocurrency is going to do well ? for e.g. I was excited by the prospects of Ripple whose investors include Santander and Google etc.

there is no "reliable" source you have to find it on the news and on the forum and decide how reliable it is.

In the order of popularity and potential,

1. Bitcoin
2. Ethereum, ETH / ETC
3. DigiByte
4. Kobocoin
5. Diamond
6. Lisk
7. Monero
8. Huh
9. Huh
10. Profit!!!

this is a good list so i contribute to this comment with my opinion.

1) bitcoin is the best and there is no doubt.
2) ETH is not so good as it was before but instead ETC has a lot of potential
3) Digibyte has been one of the most profitable coins for sometime.
4) i don't know this coin!
5) i recently found Diamond and i find it a good investment
6) Lisk has a lot of potential but it is staying down on a stable price for some reason, maybe a huge pump in the future to 0.01??
7) monero is the hottest coin of the month and it is still staying hot but i think it can be at the end of its line.
additions:
Cool litecoin is a coin that you should never forget about because it is one of the best coins which is also old and trusted.
9) some other coins similar to XMR have been a good investment too like shadowcash, ...

Normally this can be used to generate a paper wallet -> https://www.moneroaddress.org/. In case it is down, you can just get the generator from github -> https://github.com/moneromooo-monero/monero-wallet-generator/

    Is this site safe https://mymonero.com?

Yes, it is run by /u/fluffyponyza, which is one of the core team members of Monero, see -> https://getmonero.org/knowledge-base/people. It should be noted that webwallets always should be treated with caution.

What is the easiest way to buy monero?

The three biggest exchanges are https://poloniex.com, https://bittrex.com and https://shapeshift.io. For the first two you need an account (and Poloniex also requires KYC), for the latter you don't have to make an account. All these exchanges only have a BTC/XMR pair, so you would've to buy BTC first in order to acquire Monero.

This guide by /u/gingeropolous is pretty straight forward and easy to understand -> https://forum.getmonero.org/5/support/2384/the-easiest-way-to-buy-monero

If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask.

I am new here and new to cryptocurrency. I have recently bought some Litecoin and Ripple. I want some good substantiated advice on what other cryptocurrency to invest. Please reply or PM me.

You picked very wrong cryptos. Litecoin is totally dead, non-developed, and Ripple is just a Fiat 2.0 garbage. It's not even distributed yet, something like 95% of it is in private hands.
Monero and Ethereum are the picks.

Actually there are not people who can make prediction with 100% true, but i have made investment on ETC because the price is down. And it will going up again, and i used long term strategy for trading ETC of course with low amount of capital.

i think it will be :

1. bitcoin
2. eth
3. xmr
4. etc
5. ltc
I would add Dash and doge to this and nothing else.  I have a strong feeling eth/etc is going to turn out to be a fluke.  Don't think they're good investment altcoins, but I'm pessimistic as it is.

Check Monero market here https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/monero/ and in exact time buy and sale. Currently Monero have potential to higher price. Regarding other crypto, it is very hard to say, ETH have to many buyers/sellers, Litecoin is not enough popular.  Wink
