I recommend to use Mist based on Geth, if you have enough power and space to run it. It still have some issues on some Windows machines, but on Linux is running well. Web based wallets are easy to use and more convenient, but there are also more probability to be scammed and hacked too.

To keep my coin Ethereum I use one of the most reliable electronic wallets Blockchain. It is very convenient and allows a single place to store ETH and BTC. I have not had a single hacking attempt in my purse so I think that it is a safe method of storage.

Since blockchain.info  was specifically made for bitcoin,  it was myetherwallet i used to store my ethereums initially.
Later, blockchain added ethereum support to their wallet service and now i am able to swap keys between both.
You can import your old wallet keys with just a few clicks into one of these wallets.

MyEtherWallet is very easy to use and ver fast,
but it has a lot of weakness behind it that is easy to get hacked.
so the best wallet for Ethereum is Offline Wallet no matter what is it.it's the best wallet to store your ethereum.
there're a lot of cases that we found about getting hacked by just clicking a link,
i do not recommend it if you're not really good at using it(MyEtherWallet).

I would advice you personaly , I use both imtoken and myetherwallet, I keep most my token on myetherwallet, well I use imtoken to apply for ICO, and buy tokens it faster to access on my mobile device, I don't like opening Myetherwallet every time.
You can import the JSON old wallet of ethereum to https://www.myetherwallet.com/ becareful with fake website or phishing website.
Always double check it myetherwallet.com, very important.

In parentheses:
1. Use myetherwallet it safer.
2. For large amount ETH or token you want to save long term use trezor. Offline is the safest.
Thanks

Hi All,

I setup my Ethereum wallet long ago, sometime in early 2016 if I remember correct. I saved my wallet in a safe place and since then I haven't used it.

Now, Ethereum has undergone several developments, 1 hard fork (Ethereum Classic) and so on. I would like to know which wallet should I use? Are the latest versions of the wallet compatible with previous versions? Can I import my old wallet file into a new one? I think the format of the wallet was in JSON before. Please let me know. Thanks.

You can try using UTC / JSON on myetherwallet because I see they are compatible, hope you will get access to your wallet.

I would recommend myetherwallet as the best wallet for etherum. Wallet that has this web base system has very easy access and also excellent security. There are many people who use it and also I think everyone who thinks etherum must know myetherwallet. Maybe when compared with bitcoin I think this web wallet has the same quality with blockchain.

Myetherwallet is easy to use and fast, you can choose the gwei to lower or higher the transaction fees. And it support ERC20 tokens.

You can import your old wallet JSON file in myetherwallet.

I believe the same type of wallets are used now. I wouldn't care much about downloading the blockchain If I were you so using Myetherwallet would be a good solution and If you bought ETHER and forgot about them (meaning you have large amounts) then going with a hardware wallet is even better.

I personally prefer Myetherwallet with my Trezor. Some weeks ago I ordered a Trezor, because I does not feel very secure to enter private keys with a keyboard to me. Every keylogger could get your key and all your ETH and custom tokens would be gone.
