Betting on sports is not gambling. It is also like a market where you look for value in the lines given. An example of this is the Woodley versus Lawler fight. The line of Woodley opened at +185 then it went down to +125 in fight day. This means that if you make a bet at the opening you would have made some value. But of course he has to win the fight so it is good to do your research.

Why you said sports betting is not gambling ? Of course sports betting is gambling and sports betting is very2 popular type of gambling around the world.
Yes, sports betting is also like one type in Gambling. But it all depends on how you take gambling. According to me, it is Gambling. And Sports betting is safe gambling method. If you use your skill set, you can quickly make money here. So there is no difference in gambling and sports betting both are equal.

I view betting on sports as gambling due to the fact that the outcome is not certain and your money is being risked on an uncertain wager. Although betting is more like an educated guess instead of complete chance, the risk and the existence of uncertain outcomes still makes it risky like gambling. It's still gambling, just a different echelon of gambling.

The word betting is the same as gambling since  you are  risking your money to a certain thing.  Sport betting is also considered also as gambling since you dont know what would be the result its still has 50/50 chance on winning and lossing. ITs just commonsense to answer this question.  Grin

While people in this thread are saying that sports betting is gambling, which is correct, it's a less risky form of gambling if you know what you are doing.

Obviously, if you just bet blindly, you will lose just as badly as any other game, but with analysis and skill, you can be able to predict the right pick most of the time and make a good profit, as sports betting does not have a house edge, as opposed to dice games and roulette.

Hence, sports betting can make you a profit in the long run, unlike traditional gambling, if you know what you are doing.

this is i found when i search on google.

Betting is all about risking something, usually a sum of money, against the money of someone else based on the outcome of a future event, such as the result of a race or other competitive event.

Gambling is the wagering of money or something of value (referred to as "the stakes") on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods.

so i think betting on sport = gambling, in other word its just the name that different.

even if you are winning in your bets on sports it is still gambling because there is a risk involved and you will lose someday even if you have had a good winning streak with no loss.
that is how gambling works you take a risk with your money and then if you are lucky you win and if not you lose, and sports betting makes no difference.

Yeah betting on sport is gambling, if you place bet on a game and want your money double in return than this is gambling. There are many sports on which people place betting like Cricket, Football etc.

For many of us mortals it is gambling and that's how the sites/companies make money, however there are some few genius individuals gifted with incredible math skills that make a living betting on certain sports (Baseball is a clear example). I saw this guy recently on FanDuel who was a scientist and resigned from his job to become a full time pro "gambler". If Fanduel and those type of fantasy games are actual gambling that's another discussion for another time.

Of course betting on sports is gambling. I don't understand people who say like it's not. All games that make you to put bets are gambling if it sports or cards or putting a coin to the sky with expecting one side of it or another. Not matter what it's all gambling.
Yeah if there is betting and money involve we can say this is gambling but if you are just watching sports without money involve.. we can not say that this is gambling.. all games are gambling if there is bet and money involve..

For the record, apply this rule from now on.

Risking money on unknowable outcome for possibility of profit = gambling.

Risk = reward/time

From a legal perspective the issue turns on the determination of "predominance." That is, a game or enterprise is classified legally as gambling if luck and chance predominate over skill. Legally, sports betting won't be considered gambling because  either party have equal chance, and they both know the team they are betting.  So basically the percentage of winning is determine more by  their analytic skills on which team will win.

Yeah if you ask me betting on sports games is also a form of gambling as long as you put in money then it is a gamble.
It does not matter how you look at it it is and will be a form of gambling if money is involved.

Yeah if you make a bet it does not matter on what you bet at that moment you are gambling. Betting on sports games is the best way to bet in my opinion.
You can let the odds be in your favor which is not possible at most gambling games.

You need to do research on sports to have a better chance of winning. If you randomly pick a bet, you are just gambling. You would have a higher chance of winning if you analyse the sports game in details.

But even so - it is still gambling - but as you said there are less risks involved.
I mean there still are risks but your chance of winning is higher if you have done research.
