Is this genetic manipulation though? (I don't know for sure, I am not in that research area).
Genes produce proteins, and proteins fold to a certain structure. I think the idea is to study how proteins fold and see how this causes cancer, or how the folds can be influenced by modifications (such as adding chemicals).
I think this is more about modifying the physical structure of proteins, not changing any genetics.

Any biologists who can help with this question?

Yes, like Luke explained, its to keep all the BBP out of the pool, so the pool always has close to a zero balance in the hot wallet.

Why is it that you require auto-withdrawals now?
I believe it was implemented for security reasons after the pool was hacked and a significant amount of BBP stolen

On the pool, the left hand column of menus, hover your mouse over "Account", then click on "Account Settings". There is en entry "Default Withdrawal Address". Add your wallet address and then save (button at the bottom)

I don't see what prevents the botnet from shifting to the distributed computing side.  It's not a bad thing if the botnet is helping to calculate cures for cancer, but I don't see what prevents them from shifting to distributed computing.  The neat thing about the Proof of Loyalty idea was that it would help to sop up and lock up supply for the benefit of mining.  So if the rewards are proportional to the amount of distributed computing done, I don't see what prevents the botnet.  But, that is not necessarily a bad thing.  Sounds neat.

I'm going to stop the POL testnet thread and start a new testnet thread in 2 hours. 

I believe with the new information baked into proof-of-dc, POL may not be necessary.

It is now preferred to go through end-to-end cancer mining testing, test the hypothesis of redirection of heat, then decide with certainty that POL is not required. 

The potential future of Biblepay mining:

POW-heat miners will decommission instances of BBP
Rosetta cancer research (for windows or linux) is installed on N number of servers - *without* a copy of biblepay being on that server
Cancer research is also installed on Android phones
Cancer research is also installed on Windows PCs
ONE copy of biblepay is installed on the "controller" wallet
* Optionally, cancer research is installed on Sanctuaries to run in the background
Each cancer instance will have one setting: called your cross-project-identifier (its a uint256 hash) this ties all your machines together for rewards.

The Distributed Computing feature is a breakthrough.  According to our security consultant Martin, (he has a cryptocurrency class at Ruhr), the current problem with the security in DC networks is the inability to associate the researcher securely with the Crypto Public Key.

In BiblePay, this is fixed.  The other issue is, it is a challenge to pull the distributed computing grid credits from the servers, and find a way to consolidate the credits into a file, and then vote on this file as a SanctuaryQuorum, securely, and with consensus each day.

Welcome to the group.  The idea of Cancer Research is it could enable the coin to do two things.  1) Do something good with all those "wasted" computer cycles and 2) Combined with PoL could severely reduce the effect of the potential botnet.

So, right now the coin is being destabilized by a huge hash from a suspected botnet.  Since no one has said, "Hey, no that's me, I'm running a data center to mine since I love your coin" it stands to reason that it is a botnet.  So the issue is no one has been able to solve the problem of a botnet prior to now.  The solution that has been proposed is PoL which is a hybrid of PoW/PoS Mining.  In theory it should put a dent in the botnet, but will likely also raise the bar for new users.  So the secondary solution is to merge the Proof of Research into the mix which has the above upsides and an potential increased resistance to botnets, without as significant of an impact on new users.

You are correct that there needs to be more governance but short of anyone else offering to do heavy coding for next to nothing, you're not likely to see it.  The only thing that will likely signal that the cancer research part is unwanted is if the proposal to pay for the work failed.  But in a perfect world, it likely should have been proposed first then coded.  The upside is PoL is currently being tested, and so it will likely be implemented first or perhaps held back to wait for the Proof of Research element if it's moving forward at a good pace.

Stability in a new coin is tough, but we've not had any mandatory upgrades in about a month so we're on the right track.
