It sure adds a lot to the reputation of bitcoin if famous (and trusted) people talk positive about it and even support it. I think that once everything is more streamlined and everything is fool-proof to set up, more and more people will get into bitcoin.  We all have to admit, most of the things about bitcoin seem easy and understandable for us but it has to be as easy as in like: there is a bill with either a 1,5,10,50 or 100 on it, pretty much everyone can understand that.

Yes, judging by the growth of Bitcoin is definitely better than the local currency. With Blockchain technology, people need not worry because Bitcoin is very safe. And now ordinary people start looking for Bitcoin. This is obviously very interesting.

I think that's what the bill gates has little effect on bictoin, so bitcoin users are getting more and more high-priced, which makes bitcoin attractive to investors because of the ease of transactions that bitcoin provides, and bitcoins can be used anywhere and in any country. It's my opinion that makes bitcoin so superior

Bill Gates stated that the Bitcoin is the future and that it is better than currency. Would you assume that his statement (as one of the many reasons) added value on Bitcoin which made it stronger and more stable in the system?  Smiley

As the richest man in the world, many people would sure follow his words and would start going into the hype train without researching about the matter. That's where price comes from, FOMO. Added value, yes perhaps, but stronger? With weak hands, no.

Have you heard what Mr. McAfee said about Bitcoin??
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKB9b4e7pH4

Check out his tweets and statements on Bitcoin. There are many more who have given statements and most of them are actually supporting it.

Some billionaires do understand the significance of bitcoin in the coming years since they know that every year, the USD is getting weaker and weaker hence they start hyping some potentially stronger asset before they go all in to that for the mean time. Also, McAfee is not like Warren Buffett who still believes in age old practices for money. This is 2017 and almost everything is ran and secured by computers.

Guys, do you realize that this quote of Bill Gates about Bitcoin is over 2 years old? It has been known for a long time.
I don't see any direct impact this quote had/will have on the price of bitcoin, it is just some random quote which might change trade pattern and boost bitcoin for a week at that time.
Bill Gates is an amazing man and a visionary but he is not a trading/economic guru.

Yeah, I've been watching some videos about bitcoin the past month and then this video is one of the suggested video that appeared.

As you've said, this statement is from 2 years ago and I don't see any changes at the bitcoin price the time he stated that. And also, as you've said, he is a visionary so I think he will not be interested on these digital currency.

Bill Gates is one of the people whose words really matter in the world of technology. He admired Bitcoin. This is important for the future of bitcoins whether he himself still stick to currency. He has earned enough money in his life and when you are old, you like to stay with old methods. It is a psychological fact. May be, that is why he wants to use cash.

"Bitcoin is better than currency" – Bill Gates :

Bitcoin is an exciting new technology. For our Foundation work we are doing digital currency to help the poor get banking services. We don't use bitcoin specifically for two reasons. One is that the poor shouldn't have a currency whose value goes up and down a lot compared to their local currency. Second is that if a mistake is made in who you pay then you need to be able to reverse it so anonymity wouldn't work.” - Reddit AMA - On philanthropy and the work of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

So he acknowledge that it is better than cash, but he still prefer cash over Bitcoin. ^strange^

throughout history of bitcoin, whenever it starts performing well and everyone is happy about it, we start hearing everyone else who have been silence all this time start praising bitcoin and talking about it. we start hearing speculations about reaching moon, and all kinds of stuff!
I just find it funny, that's all.

it would have been great if they said all these things when price was dropping. and everyone was panicking Smiley

Speaking of which, stability in currency in the near future is very essential and vital for decades life. This is so happening that bitcoin exceeds the currency. One graph on other thread indicated that bitcoin surpasses Western Union in the currency world.

all the talks about bitcoin in the media, being on the first page of financial newspapers, these famous characters talking about bitcoin, the speculations saying it will be $50,000, etc are all good and have helped this rise and helped "get the word out" but the main reason for this rise in my opinion is the end of scaling debate.

we have had it for years and that has been keeping bitcoin back. imagine a spring that wants to be released but you keep putting pressure on it. as soon as you let go that spring will jump up to the sky. that is what happens to bitcoin Wink

How is it the end if Garzik still plans to hard fork Bitcoin in November and over 90% miners signalling their support for it? I think it was a relief after August 1st that for some reason started snowballing, maybe because mainstream investors started getting in, than some good news from Japan to boost it further, more bullish predictions in mainstream media, and this all resulted in current bull run. I think the correction will be big, and we'll probably see some turbulence in November, but in the long run we are going to the moon. I would say 15-20k in August 2018.

Among all the richest man in the world, I do believe that bill gates will be the one who will support bitcoin.
Why? For he is a technology Master. He got rich because of computer and we are using it to earn bitcoin.
I think he even invested some in crypto currency, I'm 99.9% sure. That .1% I might be wrong.

I think it is true in part. Our world is growing, technology is the direction everyone needs, so bitcoin can be a common currency in the future.
