A statement from a prominent figure like Bill Gates may be a tool in the hands of those who wish to subvert and use the Bitcoin currency or cryptocurrency at large for their own use. Don't forget that the Bitcoin is a force that George Soros - the Man who broke the bank of England - is hoping to join.
JP Morgan has issued a statement that the Cryptocurrency threat is real and they must accommodate this emerging and revolutionary force.

anybody who has been around for a little while knows the horror stories that come from those who short bitcoin...

anyways, this may sound a little strange but i am actually glad that they are saying these things publicly. if we can get some of the newbies who are only in bitcoin for the "investment" part an to "make money" out of it then the result of all this is positive. it is also known as flushing the newbies out.

It is really flushing the newbies out since they will be afraid to put their money into bitcoins since Bill Gates have planted the seed of fear to them. Bill Gates has 46.1 million followers in twitter so you can imagine that if those numbers read his comments and believe then a huge number of people will no longer invest in bitcoin. But let is just hope there will be no big negative effects on bitcoin economy as a whole.

Honestly unless I see some proof showing that he's trying to actively short bitcoin and is really putting his money where his mouth is, then I'm going to think that he's just doing this to scare some people about bitcoin due to the big name which he has in the financial and investing space. He's just trying to use the mass amount of media coverage that he knows he's going to get when he opens his mouth

I'd like to see this guy put his money where his mouth is, I think the winklevoss twins even told him how to short bitcoin if he was REALLY BEING SERIOUS

I think he is right, because this person has at his disposal a lot of money, and no one knows better than him how to earn money and how to operate them!

He knows about business matters so he can say what he know based on his experience, he may hit some of your nerves but it is right, but in Bitcoin if you are a risk taker and you know the basic thing that will happen to you in investing here then you can not call your self a foll but a challenger.

Do you know how many Billions investments has Bill Gates? Why should he says " buy bitcoin " with his net worth?
Is like Warren Buffet, do you remember when he said the same thing? Obviously, we should he says the opposite?
Meanwhile, microsoft is working on the blockchain, so.. this make us think Wink

I agree, but whether this will really affect the newbie who is in the world of cryptocurrency just for investment and make money, even to read news like this, the possibility is very small. I think they cannot be said as a newbie anymore, if they have made the news in the media to be one of the trigger factors in decision making. most newbie only thinks about the profits without observing the risk first.

Maybe Bill Gates is not anymore concerned of getting richer. You already have $50 billion in your bank account, what more can you ask for? I read that Bill Gates is now turning into a Philanthropist because he wants to help more people around the world. For me, going digital is the only way because without further technological advancements, technologies will become stagnant and may make a downfall. People who'll be more interested in cryptocurrencies in general would be the ages 20 - 40 because they're the young ones. Bill Gates already had his time with Microsoft. It's about time to make others prosper in the tech world.

For me Bill Gates is having wrong perceptions about bitcoin. Bitcoin is reaching the whole world for its potential investors, it's features as well as its different advantages. Everyday, the number of investors is increasing because they know how bitcoin has helped them to earn. I hope he will understand the actual value of bitcoin inthe future.
Of course everyone here knows the Bill Gates is very wrong about his perceptions on bitcoin or crypto in general. But what we don't understand is that will Bill Gates suddenly change tune because I remember last year he saying all positive about bitcoin and Blockchain technology. What made his suddenly made a U-turn? He's the one of the richest person if one the richest, do it doesn't make sense for him to comment like that and affect the market negatively. Crypto and Microsoft is not competitor so I'm still at lost as why in the last couple of weeks, he's been in the offensive and attacking at every media opportunity he can get.

Bill Gates is certainly a great person and creator of a huge corporation that personifies the beginning of the digital era, but I think any person can be wrong. If you go back 30-40 years ago, it becomes obvious that the works of Bill Gates were also condemned by someone because of their innovativeness.

I agree. I`d like to add that the older person gets the worse he or she takes innovations. If you take a look at Buffet you`d notice that he is strongly against cryptos. But if he was 30-40 years younger he could have been among the pioneers of this industry I guess.  Wink

Bill Gates: I’d Short ‘Crazier, Speculative’ Bitcoin If I Could

Microsoft founder Bill Gates issued critical comments about Bitcoin May 7, telling CNBC it was a “greater fool” investment and he “would short it if he could.”

In comments during the network’s Squawk Box segment, Gates, who in February claimed cryptocurrencies had “caused deaths in a fairly direct way,” nonetheless did not discount the idea of engaging with it himself.

“As an asset class, you're not producing anything and so you shouldn't expect it to go up. It's kind of a pure 'greater fool theory' type of investment,” he said.

Bill gates is an awesome personality but that doesn't mean what he thinks will be true everytime. I remember, his old friend Mr. Buffet was also present in that show who is a known hater of bitcoin. So I believe it's just peer pressure.  Tongue

But seriously, market has learnt to ignore such comments from conventional old timers. They have lived their life and now it's our time to live ours. Why bother listening to them? Even the crypto market doesn't show any impact to such comments anymore. Simply ignore!

At first it seems Bill gates was a true believer with Bitcoin. When you watch his previous interviews regarding Crypto he is positive with it. With the recent interview to be honest I do not know his agenda but it is possible that he would like for the prices to go down so that he could buy more Bitcoin.

Anyway the interview has only minimal impact on the current price. No one will stop the rise of Bitcoin.

Different man can have different perspective regarding one thing and it’s natural. But one should remember that opinion of one man cannot justify everything. When we are seeing the negative comments regarding bitcoin at the same time different companies like venture capital firm and others are investing in the bitcoin. Even in the India the High court has already accepted appeal against the banning of bitcoin in India. So if bitcoin were so bad, such things would not be happened.

Isn't it the Winklevoss Brothers already replied and challenged Bill Gates already?

Quote
"Dear @BillGates there is an easy way to short bitcoin," Tyler Winklevoss said in a tweet. "You can short #XBT, the @CBOE Bitcoin (USD) Futures contract, and put your money where your mouth is!"

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/08/tyler-winklevoss-tells-bill-gates-how-to-short-bitcoin.html

But will Bill Gates accepts the challenge? I doubt it, as much as we love what he contributed to the society, but this time Bill looks like he really don't know anything about crypto though. So its hard to reason with someone as disoriented as Bill or even Warren Buffett for that matter.

I feel like this year the number of attacks against bitcoin has increased even more. Bill Gates weren't this negative about bitcoin before. he started it this year actually. before he was praising bitcoin even! so the real question is, what changed?
are they trying to overtake the market? create their own altcoin? or buy more bitcoin and make profit from the swings?
