Microsoft-powered search engine Bing has joined other internet giants in announcing it will ban cryptocurrency-related advertisements on its network by July 2018, according to an official blog post today, May 15.

According to the statement, the main reason for the company’s decision to ban “advertising for cryptocurrency” and “cryptocurrency related products” is the current unregulated status of cryptocurrencies, which allegedly increases risk for Bing’s users:

“Because cryptocurrency and related products are not regulated, we have found them to present a possible elevated risk to our users with the potential for bad actors to participate in predatory behaviors, or otherwise scam consumers.”

As the report further says, Bing Ads tool plans to fully implement the ban worldwide between June until early July.

Bing’s crypto ads ban is the latest move in a search engine and social media crypto-boycott, initiated by Facebook in late January of this year. Google announced an analogous crypto ad ban in mid-March, and Twitter confirmed its own ban soon after.

Last week, multiple mainstream media outlets reported that Facebook is reportedly “exploring” the launch of its own cryptocurrency.

Earlier in April, the co-founder of LinkedIn told Cointelegraph that the recent crypto ad bans are, in his opinion, most likely “temporary” and due to the current absence of clear crypto market regulations.

I mean, who even uses Bing in 2018? lol
Like bing , there are other companies and even countries too who are banning and not legalising crypto currencies in their nation because of this reason only because they all the afraid of their security. Being a country, giver fears of national security like terrorism and being a company, CEO fears the hacking and this is the root cause why these people are afraid not to legalise bitcoin because there is no authorised regulating body over bitcoin and it is still decentralised.

1. Bing as a brand needs to maintain standards. It cannot keep on showing crypto ads as there are a lot of scams online and they cannot risk their brand image.

2.  Secondly, a lot of these ads capture user/consumer data online. With the new rules of GDPR in EU, it will be very strict on how and what the data captured will be used for. All users have the rights not to be tracked, or their personal information should not be used in any other illegal way. Unless these are clarified, it is probably best to take a precautionary stance.

Look around. All crypto marketers cry because of Google's prohibitions, not the Bing's.

Bing search engine doesn't have such an influence as the Google has. That's why Bing's cautions and prohibitions have little power and make few problems to marketing campaigns of blockchains project. Should we even be bothered by the fact that Bing's going to confront the crypto?

i'm not too similar use bing even to access search engine and i was more likely to use google but i wasn't surprise about this banning because basically they want to protect people from scam cryptocurrencies but not just like other giant sites such as facebook or google i think bing decission won't have any effect for development of cryptocurrencies

This is not unusual, as other big media outlets have banned the use of advertisements in cryptocurrency markets.
So Microsoft's prohibition is normal.

I was on real estate website magicbricks.com and I searched for "panvel navi mumbai". Next day when I was on other websites, I was getting google ads for "magicbricks panvel properties". The same happened to me after my search on amazon.com for chairs, clothes etc..

Google tracking users & using it for adsense/google ads ??
These are the compromises you have to do when you are using things for free, they track everything and even sell your private details to advertisers always protect your privacy using proxy or VPN to avoid these tracking and never use the same proxy to log into your social network sites which literally negates the steps you take.
Who cares if these social networking and search engine sites ban the advertising, the only thing affected will be new ICO and they have enough platform to advertise their product.

The search engine Bing can already be seen as a response to the FB and twitter banning of ICO ads, and perhaps the social media giants have unlocked their ideas and won't allow ICO ads to spread freely on their media platforms. In the short term, this may lead to a decrease in traffic in the encrypted community, but in the long run it will be beneficial to the standard development of the community.

That could be a good news and could be a bad news for windows users. According to netmarket share, Internet explorer is still own the 12% of the market. I think that is because it is the default browser of the windows pc. And since windows pc dominate the households and universities or some offices, they could get that kind of utilization. But if they tend to block those crypto related ads, I think the chance of blocking those ads will not greatly effect the users. Or if the worst came, those loyal users of bing will definitely switch to other browser which could be firefox, safari or chrome which dominate at 60% market share.  On the other hand, some people don't really been bombarded by ads. I even get irritated sometimes when ads pops.

You already said it..who uses bing anyways.

It's just a legal issue. All these ICO scams can create liability problems for big companies, that's why google, FB, twitter etc. already banned it.

Why am I not surprised about it. Bill Gates made a negative statement about Bitcoins a few days ago and it did make an impact and since I think he really wants Bitcoin to go down he followed what Twitter and Google did a few months ago and that is to dis-allow ads from Cryptocurrencies. Only difference is Twitter and Google are on top of the food chain when it comes to traffic so placing ads in those social media site will really make an impact. However Bing is not at the same level with Twitter and Google.

Let them ban it. It won't still stop the existence of crypto currency. Facebook and google have  already ban it yet no much influence on the price. Bing user are small compared to facebook and google

I beg to differ, since Bing's debut in 2009, the search engine's user base has grown to 524 million unique users. Google Has 7

Products With 1 Billion Users. According to Net Market Share the global marketing share percentage, in terms of the use of

Search Engines heavily favoured Google throughout 2017 - averaging a net share of 74.54%.  This again reinforces the fact

that Google is the market leader, however, it also highlights that the "Others" such as Yahoo, Bing and Baidu etc still hold a

large audience and it would be silly to simply ignore them (averaging between 5-10% market share). - Information was

this is bad news, I always think that when bitcoin is scarce, so, bitcoin will running but slowly.

and one of the factors that make it slow is a lot of crypto ban, lots of FUD, and also many negative factors that affect the value of bitcoin.

decisions made by bing are very clear will make crypto market unstable and make bitcoin fall.

The social media giants are showing their unity against cryptocurrency; I won't surprise if Yahoo and Quora follow the same. Cryptocurrencies are not regulated and the social media giants found a possible elevated risk to their users' this is the main reason for banning cryptocurrency and related products from the advertisement platform. The advertiser can't advertise the cryptocurrency or similar product on their search engines but the advertisers are most welcome for selling diet pills, diabetes products, and other useless affiliate marketing products.  Grin

For me it is fine since there should be a place for investors to see those crypto-related ads like ICO reviews. It is better and less annoying for some people that are not into cryptos. There is a reason why people hate it because of unlimited number of crypto ads that seems not getting their interest.
