That's the catch with this tournament, you have to start big in order to participate and the payout should indeed cover that plus a little surplus.
So, if you factor all of that in then you come to the conclusion that only if you're confident enough in your skills and have spare cash lying around only then you can enter the competition to have a good laugh. Otherwise, the laugh would be a pretty expensive one
That said, its better to have a descent pool size rather than only inflate it to attract people and end up scamming everybody.
Kinda similar for all wager competitions in the end (which is what this essentially is). You calculate your risk as possible house edge, and hope you don't have to lose more than you stand to win in the end.
Or, it's a bonus for people who gamble a lot anyway -- I suppose there are always gamblers who don't play for bonuses and they see this as extra leverage to count against losses.
