I beg your pardon? Most users do not port forward their apps. :/

EDIT: Does anyone know any other map provider which reads from a KML file? Looks like the file is up, just downloaded it, and google doesn't want to load it. Maybe it is too big?

I think google maps can only display a max of 4000 'blobs' anyway, we've long passed that count.

The server that collects the node data and hosts the KML file is managed by the operator of Mt. Gox so with everything going on with that I don't even know that he's aware of this outage.

I have a .kml archived from a few weeks ago which I can post if that helps you at all.

You may have a marker but your location appears somewhere other than where you are looking. Have you searched the KML to see if your IP Address exists?

Those running mining software only and not running a bitcoin node will not appear on the map.

cannot find my IP address on the map and had bitcoin online for the last 4 days. does anyone know how frequently the map is refreshed ?

someone suggested to have a counter to indicate how many nodes are active. that would be very useful.

related to this, does anyone have an idea how many bitcoin users there are today ?

I think there is a bit of a bug in the map display. If you click on some of the markers, it will say "1 of 2" or "2 of 3," etc. However, you can never view the last IP of the set. You can only view the first two out of three, for example.
